Mobile Passport Control

4.8
The Mobile Passport Control app is a smartphone application that allows U.S. and Canadian citizens to expedite their entry into the United States at select airports and cruise ports. Developed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency, the app enables travelers to submit their passport and customs declaration information directly from their mobile device, eliminating the need for paper forms and long wait times at the border. Users can create a profile with their personal information and passport details, which can then be used to fill out a customs declaration form and submit it electronically to CBP. Upon arrival, travelers can bypass the regular passport control line and use a designated Mobile Passport Control lane to quickly move through the immigration process. The app is available for free download on both iOS and Android devices, and is currently accepted at over 30 airports and cruise ports in the United States. The Mobile Passport Control app has proven to be a convenient and efficient tool for frequent travelers and has significantly reduced wait times for eligible passengers.

Features

The Mobile Passport Control mobile app allows travelers to submit their passport and customs declaration information directly from their smartphone. The app provides a secure and efficient way to streamline the customs process, reducing wait times and making international travel more convenient.

Some of the key features of the app include the ability to create profiles for multiple travelers, access to real-time flight information, and the option to submit passport information and customs declaration forms before arriving at the customs checkpoint.

Additionally, the app provides users with an estimated wait time for customs processing, allowing them to plan their travel more effectively.

How to Use

To use the Mobile Passport Control mobile app, travelers simply download the app from the App Store or Google Play, create a profile, and enter their passport information and customs declaration details. When they arrive at the customs checkpoint, they can submit their information through the app and receive an electronic receipt with an encrypted barcode.

Travelers then present their passport and mobile device with the electronic receipt to the customs officer for verification. Once verified, they can proceed through the customs process more quickly and efficiently.

Pros & Cons

The pros of using the Mobile Passport Control mobile app include its convenience and efficiency in streamlining the customs process, reducing wait times, and providing real-time flight information. Additionally, the app allows for multiple traveler profiles and provides estimated wait times for customs processing.

However, some potential cons of the app may include the need for a stable internet connection to submit passport and customs information, as well as the requirement for travelers to have a compatible smartphone and the app installed. Additionally, some users may have concerns about the security of submitting sensitive passport information through a mobile app.

If you've been using the Mobile Passport app and, like me, have seen it saying lately that it will no longer relay your information to U.S. Customs & Border Patrol (CBP), it's time to cancel your subscription to Mobile Passport, delete that app, and download this one. CBP MPC is the official and up-to-date replacement for the Mobile Passport app. And I'm not positive yet, but it's looking to me like this one doesn't even require a subscription to do what Mobile Passport did (and more, I think). And if you *haven't* been using the Mobile Passport app but are looking for an electronic repository for your passport and a paperless means of filling out the forms necessary for entry into the U.S. and/or Canada, this is the app you're looking for too. It's the official one, put out by the Department of Homeland Security and all that jazz, and not some third-party thing that adds an unnecessary link to the chain of communication. Enjoy.

This is the BEST little know app EVER that will save you time at the airport, and that’s coming from an airline employee of over 5 years. It was amazing the estimated wait time was almost 2 hours or more for the regular person who doesn’t have a Global Entry Number. That said when your traveling through an entry point city that the worlds largest airline uses as one of their international hubs and just want to get through the Customs and Border Protection line at the airport when entering These United States, you have go to download this app !!! You can choose to have it save your passport information, or you can have it rest each time your forms for entry expire, all you have to do is take a clear picture of yourself, and a picture of your passport and enter your flight information and then fill out the quick standard entry question, and then the app auto fills out the correct entry forms for you and your entire family who might be traveling with you. Then you pick up your checked baggage (if you have any), and lastly start looking for the signage for the line for electronic entry. I will say this global entry was way way longer then this apps line and that is supposed to be the timesavers line for frequent international travelers, and this app allowed us to even cut in front of them without having to pay for anything!!!

First off, read the description about the app carefully. You can’t submit your info more than four hours before you arrive in the US. You will still need to present your US passport to the CBP agent. The system works is you pay attention to details. Flew back to Dulles Airport from the Caribbean in June using the MPC app. Had initial issues with connecting to CBP server but it worked before we board the shuttle to the terminal. Hundreds of people in regular line. Less than 10 people in the MPC line! Out of the airport and in a taxi in less 45 minutes after landing.

Came back home, going through customs, 90% of the crowd went one way, my daughter and I, along with maybe a dozen others went through the MPC line. I tapped on the app, submitted the info, snapped a picture of each of us and we were through in under 3 minutes. Best free app for this!

Very quick through customs! Make sure you have the app downloaded before you start traveling. put your passport information in as well. that way when you land all you have to do is take a picture of your face and select your entry gate etc. We went through in less than 5 minutes at Dulles international airport. We got in line right behind a couple diplomats and went right through.

I used this app arriving in Miami. Not sure why so many people hate it. Seems to me it must have been user error. I put all the important information in the app the day before travel for 3 of us. It holds your information until you arrive at your destination. As soon as the flight landed, I hit in Airport and we all took our photos in the plane. Following all the directions. The clock starts to tick down from 4 hours. Found our assigned line and we were through customs in 10 minutes.

Never imagined I would have about a government app. I'm not sure how I learned it existed, but I downloaded before going to Quebec. On way back, I wasn't exactly sure how the order of things worked, but we managed it and totally skipped the line. Got to immigration guy and he looked at nothing, we matched the pictures we took moments before. The passport scanner works while the airline app scanner absolutely does not work. Bravo USA! I hope the IRS gets just as easy.

Super simple to use. The passport scan feature works better than my experience with airside. We flew through customs at LAX. One individual gave it one star because they had to pull down their mask for a photo. Its ridiculous that would drop it so low. You have to drop your mask for tsa, customs, and to take a drink or eat on a long trip. Find a secluded corner if you're uncomfortable. I for one was very happy with this app and it is another example of the efficiencies of the United States.

For those US residents that need to travel internationally, I highly recommend the CBP MPC app. It made coming back through customs in the US a breeze. There is a dedicated line just for this app, there was only 1 person in line when I got to it (vs dozens in both the international and domestic lines), and the interview lasted 30 seconds. Basically, I just breezed through customs. And it is free. This is from someone who's seat was the back of the plane (so one of the last to get to customs).

Contrary to many 1* reviews the App is very easy to use. The only design defect is that you have to start at the “Begin Your Entry Process” screen, select “Airplane” or “Cruise Ship” - which does not matter at that point - and only than start adding travelers. Once that step is complete, you cancel the entry form, and the data will remains recorded in the App. Once you are about to arrive you go to that same “Begin Your Entry Process” screen, and on the next page select from those travelers profiles that you have already created. The actual experience at the airport may vary. In EWR in September there were clearly marked signs for MPC, however that was the same line as for the crew, which was actually a bit longer than the regular line. (Which was uncharacteristically short at the time.) In PHL in December the MPC line was “hidden in plain sight”: there was a huge sign, but it was different in style from all the other signs directing the traffic, and our family has missed it on the first pass. However going through that line saved us at least half an hour or more. At any event, with MPC there’s always an option to just use regular line if it looks shorter.

Truly enjoy the app, makes the experience a breeze. However my issue is with the queue at customs. After 5 separate visits across 3 different ports there is no enforcement of mcp. Each time I'm waiting in a queue of people who've never heard of mpc. Just random walk ups. So while I would breeze right through if just mpcs were there. I'm waiting in a longer than the normies. So kinda pointless as of late.

Really breezed me through customs once I figured it out. I was uncertain about port of entry at Dulles Airport. Apparently, there are two customs ports: The main terminal & the midfield terminal. As I was filling out the form the morning of travel, I couldn't find definitive information about which port my flight would use. I found out when I got off the plane and saw I was at the main terminal. At that point, however, there's no opportunity to pause to fill out and submit.

going round and round, and taking me back to start, confusing, including FAQs, instructions needed as going along, not intuitive, felt I did it correctly first time, but, again, kept taking me back to beginning, even though I selected traveling alone -- frustrating and time-wasting

I was disappointed that I kept getting an error after multiple times of submission. It has not happened before but of all the times as a frequent flyer to have me miss a connecting flight because of a glitch in the system and I had to stay in a very long custom line at the airport. Why would it not allow me to submit and keeping having this annoying error.

It may be coincidence, but with the retirement of the Airside app, it seems that immigration control at fewer and fewer airports are processing the Mobile Passport Control receipt. Instead of getting the expedited service we users formerly received, we are being dumped into the same long lines all other travelers (many very unfamiliar with the basics) are using. The result is a very substandard experience and excessive processing time — hardly what we had grown to expect from the program when originally launched. At the very least, those airports that have removed the receipt scanners and don’t provide dedicated servicing for Mobile Passport should be removed from the “port of entry” list. Leaving them in there sets a false expectation that we will be able to use the app and get through quickly. Today I nearly missed a connection at O’Hare because the airport refuses to use the app (even though they show up on the list). It seems to be a locally-driven decision. Even better would be to mandate the use of the system at all major US gateway airports. It used to provide a useful alternative for those of us who travel frequently, but don’t live near a major airport where we can schedule a Global Entry interview (and go through that ponderous bureaucratic process). US CBP needs to make up their mind what their mobile strategy is… and then follow through with a consistent and convenient execution of that strategy!

45 minutes to get thru MPC! Way slower than regular counter! I know that because our bags were one of the last dosen from our flight. The app had trouble scanning my document, but an one time manual entry of some numbers would be completely acceptable IF it actually does what it says. I tried the app at JFK, Terminal 4. The result: the line was longer, move much slower and the officer asked even more questions (tho none related to MPC to even want to see the receipt). I'm deleting it.

Download and install ok. The "take photo" part should be earlier in the process of filling in the form. It only asks after landing . Then, it never could submit the form after landing. I had to go through the normal process at CBP. Wasted time with the app. Other communication was happening so the network wasn't the issue. There is some work to do.

No point using this app. The MPC line did not even require the app, it was much slower and took much longer than the regular line so what's the point. Sorry to say but we are way way behind the other countries in terms of processing people through customs the other England and other countries were much faster and more efficient even without an app. Sorry deleting it.

Went through the whole process and it gives the bogus "you're not connected to the internet" error. I definitely have internet so I suspect it's because the server is rejecting the submission due to some validation error, but the app doesn't tell you what to do to correct it so you're stuck going through the regular line. Lovely.

Third time was not the charm! I have tried using the MPC app three times and it has not worked once! Over the last two years I have gone on three international trips and every time I came back I tried to use the app. I even got a lecture today from the immigration's officer. If you have less than great connection or loose the connection, the app gets stuck and then you are stuck doing the long immigration line!

This app is pretty useless. I tried it but you can't submit it until you land at the entry point airport. Then you have to take a photo of yourself. Clear light, no distracting backgrounds, no other distinguishable faces, and you can't pull a photo from your gallery. It's next to impossible to meet these conditions while you're in the airport at customs. This step should probably come before the submit button. No idea what comes after that. Didn't get passed the photo portion.

Would be hugely useful if it worked, and/or if tech support was available. Have tried 2 different phones, reloading the data both scanning and manually repeatedly, reinstalling the app, & every time we save Date Of Birth, it changes to 1 day earlier. We've even tried saving our DOB to one day later, which looks to have worked until you submit, then it reverts to the 8th. Each time we open the app, DOB rolls back another day. Renders it useless. (And no it's not user error). Please fix!

Almost laughably useless! The app won't let you finish filling out the form until less than 4 hours from entry... at which point you're on a plane without internet access. When you do arrive, you're greeted by signs everywhere telling you that US law prohibits using your phone in the CBP area. Clearly thought up by someone who has never flown internationally.

It really depends on the airport you arrive at. I still ended up in the same long line as everyone else. My arrival was at 9:30am, so it wasn't due to fewer passport control agents being available. Until they have *dedicated* lanes across *all* participating airports, it only gets one star. Actually zero stars since there's no point to the app if you end up in same lane as everyone else.

The app is great. Easy and efficient. The process in the Toronto airport, flying to the US, is inconsistent across terminals. In terminal 3, staff can speak to you about MPC & direct you to the right line. In terminal 1, they can't, allegedly bc of different supervisors... This is important bc if you get in the regular line & realize there's an MPC line, you can't switch lines. I was told that's bc too many people would use the app after they were in line.
