Features
The Airbnb mobile app has a number of features that make it easy for users to find and book accommodations while on the go. The app allows users to search for properties based on location, price, and amenities. It also provides detailed descriptions and photos of each listing, as well as reviews from previous guests.
Another useful feature is the ability to communicate directly with hosts through the app, making it easy to ask questions or make special requests. Users can also use the app to manage their bookings, check-in and check-out, and make payments.
How to Use
To use the Airbnb mobile app, simply download it from the App Store or Google Play and create an account. Once logged in, you can start searching for accommodations by entering your destination, travel dates, and other preferences. You can then view listings, read reviews, and communicate with hosts to ask any questions. When you find a property you like, you can book it directly through the app and manage all aspects of your trip.
Pros & Cons
One of the main pros of the Airbnb mobile app is the convenience it offers to travelers. The app makes it easy to find and book accommodations, communicate with hosts, and manage bookings all in one place. Additionally, the app provides a secure payment platform and a reliable review system to ensure the quality of listings.
However, one potential con of the app is that it may not always have as many options as the website, particularly in smaller cities or less popular destinations. Additionally, some users may find the fees associated with using the app to be higher than expected.

The app is amazing and I love the expanded ability to included personal info in the scheduled messages. There’s a few things I really want that are not on the app and one is the ability to manually check a guest out of your unit so it allows you to leave a review and change automatically into new daily guests. Otherwise having to wait until 12-3 pm to leave a review after I’ve completed all checkout/check in tasks for the next guest and then having to come back later is a little annoying. Also, if there’s a way to turn off notifications for “_____ is arriving in 12 days” that’d be great. Additionally, I’d love to be able to utilize IF functions for shortcode messages. For example, if I try and attach a shortcode message and include something like the guests home city (“safe travels from /guest_city/!”) but the guests profile doesn’t have that information to pull, it shows as “/guest_city/“ in the message to the guest and I would like to be able to attach an if statement to drop part of the phrase if the info isn’t available (or warn me that it’s not filling it in bc it’s missing that data so I can fix it myself, otherwise I often miss it if I’m not diligent!). This would help avoid a lot of problems.
Pros: 1-You can filter everything to find exactly what you're looking for. 2-Checking out is really easy. Cons: 1-You can't zoom in on any of the pictures of the listings, so you don't always know exactly what you're getting unless you screenshot. 2-Usually I pick a place that's close to major attractions in the area(within a 20-30 minute drive) but they don't tell you the exact location until after booking. I realize it's for hosts protection but not knowing it does drive me a little crazy.
The app has always been ok, until more recently. It wants to update so often now. The real issue I have with it, is the search places it on a type of location, rather then just leaving that open for multiple options. The filter bar on the app comes and goes with updates as well. Unless I am searching from a web browser, I can't specialize my search in the additional options beyond dates and guest number. The older version, before all the updates, gave us these options and now they are limited.
This app is terrible. I can't explain, but I receive too many emails instead of just a chat window inside app. Paying takes forever, they lock you out while they review payment. It is extremely frustrating. Couldn't find a phone number to call them, hidden somewhere. A 0 business needs to not be totally reliant on computer. There are times where people need to talk to someone on phone. I will not use this app again.
functional, good user interface, and the search filters sorta work. doesn't lie about bedrooms like VRBO. But please, PLEASE stop with the patronizing exaggerations regarding the availability of rentals. Not every place is a "rare find," or a "guest favorite." I don't need other guests to make my mind up for me, and very few of these are rare. And stop with the pop ups. I'm already using your app. why the hell would you bombard me with pop up ads FOR AN APP IM ALREADY USING??!
I very rarely leave reviews on apps. I think this is a very convenient app and easy to use and I am a long time Airbnb user. However, the major irritation of the photos area is infuriating. You cannot reorient the pictures, nor can you zoom the pictures. This is an incredibly easy fix and I have no idea why these features are not enabled LIKE EVERY OTHER APP IN THE WORLD. Fix it and I will up the rating to five stars.
The most annoying app set up I have ever experienced. "Please add a photo of yourself." 1st photo: "You can only have yourself in the photo." 2nd photo: "The resolution of this photo is too high." 3rd photo: "The resolution of this photo is too low" 4th photo: "Please put more of your face in the circle" Zoom in: "The resolution of this photo is too low" and don't even get me started on the captcha.
This isnthe first time I have downloaded and used the AirBnB app. When I went to confirm my reservation, the app would not allow me to complete the reservation without adding my cell phone number. I did so, but an error kept popping up stating I had to use another number as my number was already registered and if I wanted to use my number, I would have to remove it from the other account. The problem is, this is the only account I have ever setup in AirBnB, so I have no idea of another account
I agree with one of the other reviews. I dislike the new update. it was so much nicer and easier to book a place I liked by searching through the beach, cabin, treehouse sites. I am very disappointed and may not book anything again. I was searching for treehouses for my son and then it got the ridiculous upgrade so I no longer can find what I want. I really am upset with it. please bring back the way it was please bring back the way it was.
To be fair, I have not used Airbnb for a while. This time, the app kept clearing my dates and preferences, so when I finally went to reserve a place, it was for the wrong week and without a pet. Of course, this affected the price at the time of checkout. Overall, it's not as good as it used to be. I was not able to map out the directions to the general location to even see how far away it was lol. I could not filter for a fireplace either. a little clunky, in my opinion.
I really wish the app were better, because I'd like to use it more. Unfortunately, in the few minutes I've used it, I've already found two glaring flaws: 1) you cannot sort search results. Filter, yes. Sort, no. I want to sort by price, but the app won't let me. 2) the map...simply doesn't work. It's blank, and if you pinch to zoom, it shows the whole world. You can then manually zoom to the area you're searching, but the search results are not shown.
please stop changing the app every month! I can't keep up. it's so hard to navigate the app when it is constantly changing. why did you get rid of the feature that tells you how much a selected group of days would cost for the traveler and pay for the host? it was a very useful tool for adjusting costs based on market needs and for some reason it's gone. thanks a lot
sometimes when I search it doesn't want to work and it's not because it isn't updated so idk what's up with that but otherwise the app seems well put together. as far as how they monitor the listings I'm not sure it's right. the prices for some places are just outrageous. with rent already being high it's just ridiculous people are not made of money. Also, I should not have to reach out to support because my host has failed to deliver on their listing. Everyone should go through a process.
Edit: I use this service all the time, but I updated the version today, and suddenly nothing worked! 😱 Every screen says my request encountered an error. I'm in the middle of a trip! How am I supposed to check in tomorrow? Thank heavens my backup phone still works, but I just wasted an hour restarting, uninstalling, and freaking out. Horrible update! 👎👎
The app could be improved by having the map view show the *total* cost of the proposed deal rather than only the daily rate. Specifically, cleaning fees vary from $5 to $140. Some units are using the cleaning fees to adjust upward their low advertised price - bait and switch.
AirBNB's programming gremlins strike again. Every time there's an app update, features disappear and everything gets glitchier. This time they've made the app totally unusable as a guest and a host. As a host, we've lost the price calculator, so we have no idea what pricing is for a range of dates and can't adjust it. As a result we're pulling most of our listings from AirBNB in favor of other platforms. As a guest, the map doesn't work right, so we're just opting to stay at hotels this year.
The app is fairly easy to navigate, except when trying to get in contact with support. In order to get in contact with support, there are so many steps and it's never useful. They request every time that a new ticket be opened and they give you the run around. By the time I was able to get in contact with someone, my issue was closed and given an automated response. Extremely horrible user experience. I would stay away in case your stay doesn't go as planned, you'll never be given help.
I used to love the app, but now it doesn't work right. Won't show my trips. I travel for work andnuse Airbnb for all of it. Now that they have combined all the taxes and fees it has limited my options since I can not exceed a certain amount per night, taxes and fees not included so I used to be able to find more homes with all the costs separated, now Im limited. If it aint broke, dont fix it
The most recent update is horrible. The app is no longer easy to explore nor fun. The removal of the different categories is such a disappointment. We would sometimes use that to plan our trips! I don't even like opening the app anymore because it's just a let down instead of a way to "escape" and plan the next adventure.
At first, I was really excited to book a place and go through the listing, but then airbnb changed their layout on the options like luxe, mansions, cabins, etc... and had replaced it with just homes, services, and experiences, I'm now very limited to where or what I want to book as my listing does not come up anymore. If this was an update, it is a horrible update. What a way to restrict places. such a disappointment... truly.
*ETA App doesn't even work at all, now. The app hasn't worked since the most recent update. I'm in the middle of a cross-country trip and have to go through my browser to check bookings/answer messages/find places to stay because the app just says "something went wrong, refresh page." I even uninstalled/reinstalled and it's still broken.
I am from Connecticut and I was in Austin Texas for a work related trip. I specifically listed that it was a work related trip paid for by work. However, I was booking AirBnB on my personal account. I am 21 years old, and according to AirBnB they won’t allow and restrict my account so I cannot book an entire place for myself and I am forced to only rent rooms in peoples houses. This is direct discrimination based on my age it believes I am “high risk” to throw a party in an airBnb in a place I know literally no one. This is an absolute joke and I plan on deleting my AirBnB account since costumer service, which btw is out sourced to India so AirBnB does not support American jobs, told me there is nothing I can do but book shared rooms or private rooms in homes with the owners on site. This is obviously an inconvenience to me because I am a business professional spending an extended amount of time away from home and not all hosts grant kitchen access, nor does a normal person want to use someone else’s kitchen when the person lives in the same house. I am beyond unhappy with my experience. Would not recommend AirBnB and our companies will no longer be booking with them after this trip. Trying alternative apps similar to them Like VRBO. Air bnb no longer deserves to hold the editors choice badge or be the top app of its kind. Require them to step up there game or be out done by the competition.
I’ve been using Airbnb for years, this is my first time to get my booking cancelled by the host at the last minute and I had to book another one with extra costs (a lot more). On the title and photos it never mentioned anything so that we thought it’s the whole apartment with 2 bedrooms for us 4 people, after we booked it and host called to confirm two days later, then she told us it’s only a one bedroom booking sharing with other visitors two bedrooms, we paid as much as it costs for a whole three bedrooms apartment for just one bedroom and sharing with other…. We cancelled the booking and we had to paid 70% of the total as penalty. We contacted Airbnb customer service reaching to a supervisor to see if they can help, they told us it was our faults to not paying attention to read all details before booking … and they promised to call us back in 48 hours but nothing happened after three weeks, we called and still getting blaming on not paying attentions on reading details again. At the end, nothing to report to Airbnb customer service and we paid almost double for what we supposed to pay, I would rather book a hotel from now on instead of using Airbnb cause they (the host)can cancelled your booking at any time any date for no reason without any penalties and Airbnb customer service can only blaming on clients for not paying attention before booking.
I stayed in an Airbnb in Miami recently. While I was out our psychotic Airbnb host used his key to get into the house while my girlfriend was there all alone. She was nude and the host noticed but didn’t leave. She shouted at him to leave the house but he would not. She called the police but when they arrived we did not get the outcome we expected. It turns out our host was a police officer and knew the police that arrived. They laughed with each other and went on about their day. The host then got angry at my girlfriend for calling the cops and started throwing all of her belongings around and told her she has to leave. This was all while I was at a business meeting. I had a secured firearm in the bedside nightstand. He saw this and used the key to unlock it and TOOK A SHOT AT THE GROUND. At this point my girlfriend was having a full on anxiety attack she didn’t know if she would be killed by our psychotic host. She called the police again and once again he knew them and they let him go. I got back and we fled in fear for our lives. Now the most outrageous part of this all is that when we complained to airbnb they banned ME for having an unsecured firearm. The firearm was in fact secured, the host had found the key next to it and opened it himself but they took his word over mine. The host is still on Airbnb and probably still terrorizing guests and airbnb is facilitating it. If you value your life, do not stay in an airbnb.
After being deceived by a host and reporting it to the customer support team, the only resolution that we received was an email response more than a month after our trip that “it didn’t violate their standards and that they have gone over their community standards with the host to ensure they understand”
The last update is awful. Everything is saved in "liked" and I can't remove them, I can't search by city anymore, and when I type cities that I searched before it suggests random places, I haven't been able to use the map, there are no filters? I uninstalled it twice and re installed but it keeps the same. I am about to travel and it's terrible and makes me so worried.
The filters do not work and I've seen this issue for a couple weeks now. I have tried to limit the cost filter several times and it never applies and therefore the experience of this app to book a stay is frustrating as you try to weed thru the options. I see this as its either a true bug or its a marketing ploy to make an individual see and spend more for an experience. I see this issue in a couple reviews so it's not being addressed AND a filter fix is a very simple fix on the development side
i've been a user of Airbnb for 7 years. my experience was always great, but lately a combination of poor app design choices, coupled with apalling customer support have driven me off the app. We had a recent stay that was not as advertised and caused us major safety concerns, we provided photo evidence but airbnb support were useless. We were charged the full amount after leaving 1 hour into a week long stay. No protection for users, and disgusting practices. I'm going back to hotels.
The worst app. I could swear it wasn't always this ridiculous. Impossible to search for a specific listing or renter if you already know the location or name. I've sat next to my husband while we're both on the app & couldn't find the listing he was looking at. (Yes, filters were the same.) If I find a place on my laptop browser & then want to check it out on my phone later but I haven't saved it, forget about it. Have to start over. Infuriating. Oh yeah, cant zoom in on photos either.
first time trying to book a stay, and it tells me there was an issue with making the reservation despite me not doing anything wrong. everything was verified, had plenty of funds in account for it. Called customer support and they said I was given a restriction on my account for 10 days because of the failed booking so I'm SOL til then and even then it might not work. how did this become a successful business app?
