I love this app. They put more functionality on a regular basis and I almost never run into issues (once long time ago I had to re-register by calling HSBC because the process got blocked). I just registered my new iPhone this week and it was super easy to do. Banking for the 21st century... and no, I did not get paid to write this review, I simply deal in similar ways with banks in the US and they are a decade behind!

I have been a premier customer of the bank globally for over two decades. I am always staggered by the difference in customer service between the U. S. and U.K. The U.K. customer service is consistently excellent while the U. S. Is except for rare exceptions dreadful. I guess that reflects the decision the sell most of the business to Citizens Bank.

Much better in app than my initial sign up with HSBC earlier last yr 2024 or poss late 23. App then was a nightmare to navigate trying to find transactions infuriating! Now everything is better organised & easier to find. Replacement bank cards were received super fast after request! I'm satisfied, app works for my banking requirements. It is now easy to navigate and I can easily find my transactions unlike before update. Paying in and transferring out no problems.

Every time I try and log in to online banking the experience gets worse, I understand about securing my account etc but come on this is ridiculous, the number of hoops I have to jump through, it’s almost a 5 min issue every time just to log in. Almost ready to close my account and go to another bank, I was with Midland Bank for years and then it changed to HSBC, really aggravated British Citizen living in the USA

The application is fine when it starts (see later). It is less functional and a bit less intuitive that the website (for example it wasn't easy to find future payments that I have scheduled). The biggest issue that other reviews have mentioned is that occasionally (maybe once every two days) it will get stuck on startup, just showing the logo, and this requires a phone reboot to fix it.

On the whole the app is good, but despite trying tens of times having had multiple conversations with support staff who really try their best the cheque deposit feature hasn’t worked for months when I have really, really, really needed it to during the pandemic. Being abroad and having UK cheques in hand that I cannot deposit no matter how many different backgrounds I try, whether or not I endorse the back, whether my time/date is set to London, New York or automatic time zones is unbelievably frustrating and soul destroying. It is substantially impacting on my quality of life ... and, at this point, my ability to buy food. (Are we really meant to be taking a picture of the back of the cheque when it is entirely blank?) It it maybe an iPhone problem?

The regular banking areas of thr app work OK but trying to deposit a cheque is genuinely the most frustrating experience. The app takes pictures before you can frame the cheque properly, then gives error messages saying the framing isn't right. It tells you to make sure the cheque fills the frame, but the frame is the wrong shape for a cheque. Once you finally take a picture and select "use", the app glitches and takes you right back to the camera anyway. I could go on. It's terrible.

You need to put in a running balance on credit cards, and the instalment plans. Waiting till a credit card statement is produced to check if the instalment plan is paid is too late. I like to pay adhoc. Which means I have to add up every single credit to check there has been enough to cover the minimum payment and the instalment plan. The app should tell me this automatically. The system should not be running days behind. And put balance after bills back in against each account separately.

Unable to open the app and like others I'm receiving the ".. please disable developer mode.." message. The agent I spoke with suggested it could be an old phone (it's a few months old) and admitted they're getting lots of calls. I spent a lot of time trying to resolve the issue but am unable to find "developer mode" on my phone. If the issue isn't resolved by Monday I'll have no option other than to change bank. I've been with HSBC since 1990 when they were Midland Bank! I don't do social media.

stopped working , 02/08/25, deleted and reinstalled , still nothing , was told it wouldn't be fixed until 13/08/25 , reinstalled today , 11/08/25 and managed to set everything back up , worked fine for one log in , was notified of a couple of transactions , so went to log on and it's at it again , not working . you can't even log on online because you need a code from an app that doesn't work , utter tosh .

Horrible app, especially after the latest update. The update download always fails to complete and the app is totally frozen when I open it; I tried clearing the cache and even deleting and re-installing it but it wouldn't work. I can't use it and obviously I need to make payments which is causing me troubles and waste of time. I can see many users have the same issue; If they don't release an update to fix it soon I'll just close the account and bank with someone else

App has stopped working completely - it no longer recognises that I'm pressing buttons. I've tried reinstalling, clearing cache etc but it just won't recognise button presses at all. Can't log in to online banking in the browser because that requires an app. Can't start a help desk chat because that requires the app. Edit/update: On a whim I tried using the app in a floating window, and in that mode the app is responsive. Not ideal, but it's something.

This app was working alright, I could easily make payments and everything and suddenly out of nowhere it started crashing. Now all I can do is log in and look at my home screen. I called the customer service and they asked me to Uninstall and install the app again and now I can't even see the home screen. The buttons don't recognize me pressing them and I can't make any payments see my balance get notifications nothing. And they say it might take 2-3 days to fix the issues.

Used to work well now regularly freezes up when opened. I can log in but then unable to do anything. Sometimes it's works if I restart my phone. Very unhelpful app especially as it's important to be able to access and perform tasks. Please fix the bugs. I see that lots of people are experiencing the same issues. Overall I think HSBC is great but unfortunately your app sucks.

This is not quite an improvement, as things have moved illogically, past payees seem to have been culled, some functions just don't seem to work anymore or are more cumbersome, and now I found out it just refuses to start altogether if apps not from an official store have been loaded. Advising these must be removed first. Security is important, but this is more than a little over the top, and literally no other (bank) app has the same problem.

Almost totally useless and downright wrong. The summary screen frequently gives the wrong account balance, sometimes by£1000+. It does eventually catch up but it can take a couple of days. The summary screen has two options, show favourites or all. No matter how many times I press the All button it persists in showing me what it thinks is my favourite. I've reported the incorrect balance issue to HSBC, but of course they weren't interested.

I do like the app, it's normally user friendly. But please can this be investigated. I can see that other people are having the same issue. I can login to my app just fine, with no problems, but then when I try to click something, nothing happens as if the app is frozen. I've tried turning my phone off/on, restarting, clearing the cache, updating to the latest version and redownloading the app. I've tried to speak to someone but they said to go to customer service on the app. But I can't.

The "app" simply doesn't work! I've been on the phone with HSBC for an hour, and they can't fix it. they say I have downloaded some dodgy app and their app won't work as a security feature! I know I've made no updates to my phone since this last worked. Their final recommendation wàs I do a factory reset of my phone. Totally unacceptable support. I am considering changing banks as they can't seem to solve basic problems. Extremely disappointing

Since the last security update, the app won't run unless I turn off certain settings on my phone, ones I have set for a reason (and have set them for over 10years), and if I don't, I can't open the app, OR get a code to log into online banking. Either way, it locks me out of all my accounts unless I change my Phone settings to how HSBC wants them. only banking app that demands it, shocking!!

HSBC's app is so far behind Starling and Monzo, they've tried to implement payment confirmations but instead of a notification you have to manually open the app to see the prompt, and if you already have the app open it doesn't work until you close it and reopen. To get a code for online banking you also have to close and reopen. For credit cards there is no option to setup a direct debit or make a payment in the app, on online banking there is only the only to do it from an HSBC account.

Can't pay a cheque in on Google Pixel devices. App keeps crashing. This has been happening for months now. Edit: I got a stock reply asking to make sure the app software and phone software is up to date. It was already, I checked, and I've done all that. This problem persists on Google Pixel Devices. Either 'care' enough to test it or don't bother at all!

2023 Notifications still not working after three weeks. All they say is "We are working as fast as we can to fix the problem". This is since the app stopped working. Three weeks, it doesn't take that long to go to the moon and back. * Update. The notifications are now working. * Update. Apparently it's only card transactions that are now working. 2025 *Update on update. Notifications again not working for transactions in my current account. Seems to be a common problem.

Being a customer for a few years now. This app still lack the features of.most other online bank apps. On top of that, I wish the testing and verification was done more carefully. Everytime there was a major update, something stopped working. Most recently, on the last update, the security key generator stopped working and since then it's not possible to use the app or login into the web application :(

The most unnecessarily complicated mobile banking app I have had the misfortune to experience. No 24 x 7 support. Frequent lockouts. Confusing security with digital secure passcode, online banking password, username, secure key, and app dependency to even attempt to logon. Once locked out, nobody available on the phone. As soon as I can log back in to determine my card balance, I will be closing my account. Very badly designed, implemented and the security is stupidly complex and does not work.

Absolutely the worst banking app I have ever used: -HSBC credit card should be linked to your debit account and easy to directly transfer money- the money transfer tool is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen in a banking app- not at all intuitive - messages seem to get sent to three different locations within the app- this is crazy! I kept getting emails that I had a new message but naively thinking I’ll check the tab entitled ‘inbox’ only to see no new messages until finally I discovered two other tabs where messages are saved! - the chat/support feature is useless. No one ever responds - just delete this feature it if you can’t be bothered to support this feature -why can I not update my home address in this app? This is also crazy! I can transfer money but I can’t change my home address? I guess I’ll just let HSBC send mail to my old address and they will have to cover the cost when someone steals my new credit card and uses it fraudulently... I have bank accounts with multiple other international banks and they have intuitive apps that actually work- really don’t understand how HsBc got it so wrong with this app
