It's awesome to keep track while on the go and all, and being able to upload stories from your phone is great!!! But, it does have a few glitches that pop up every now and then. And frequently, it tends to make minor to huge errors that get to the point where you need to delete the file, re upload it, or cut and paste to fix the errors from the start. Pros and cons are kinda leveled on a scale.
Lots of bugs. A lot features also don't work. Such as when you're trying to make a new document the "docx" and "file upload" does not work. I also wish there was a way to strikethrough words, but that's easy to get around. There's no clear way to respond to reviews, and I'm not sure if there is a way in general, which I think would be a helpful feature. Overall, it's nice that they have an app, but AO3 is still a lot better.
When it comes to reading, the app is pretty good. But that is the only function that works. I can see buttons at the bottom, but none of them work. Things like adding a favorite, leaving a review, or downloading. They appear behind the navigation keys of my Android. This is the only app I have that has this issue. Also cannot update my profile page at all. Prefer the browser website.
Overall great app. I've been using it for years and no major problems until now. Sometime between Dec 23-Feb 24, there was an update that caused major battery drain. I was losing 10% of power every 20-30 minutes while the app was open and the phone got so hot I couldn't hold it. Even when the app wasn't open, I would lose 1 percent of power in less than a minute. Having my phone plugged in took almost 5 minutes to charge an extra 1%. Uninstalling the app fixed it within a few days
Had to uninstall because it kept opening every two seconds even when I force closed the app. Even restarting my phone didn't help. Gonna try to reinstall again, but it's definitely a bit buggy. I like being able to listen to it as an audio book sometimes, though. The text to speech voice is pretty decent, although sometimes it takes a while to load and has long pauses.
While I have enjoyed using the app after literal years of ignoring it, some aspects of the UI are kind of obtuse and it is regularly plagued with errors. Like as of today I can open the app and look at another user's profile or view my own profile, yet I cannot look at the stories on someone else's profile and I cannot load up any stories in my favorites or library in the app. I enjoy the site and the app, but their long term technical issues both need to be addressed sooner rather than later.
Somewhat recently, Android updated to a new version. Since that update, the bottom bar when reading (download, like, share, etc) is effectively unusable as now it's behind the bar for my phone (Home, back, etc.). While all of these functions can be worked around to still work, it's very frustrating to have to work around.
CPU usage and battery drain. I am a mobile app dev, so I understand when a simple app may have to constantly work in the background to keep things running smoothly. But on this app, I constantly get "syncing failed" popups. This means that whatever it's doing in the background doesn't work. But the app works. Which means the background actions are unnecessary. But the actions keep failing and retrying, and it places a large strain on the battery, which makes the phone heat up. Fix it.
I've enjoyed this app for years. However, lately (as in the last 6 months) my app won't load any of my saved stories on any given day. It keeps saying retry. I go to my home page and my profile pic is gone, replaced by a cartoon guy. I have tried logging out and logging back in, updating the app and restarting my phone. Nothing changes the status of the app working. I have submitted a bug report before. I don't know if it got fixed or not. I'd like to keep my account but sheesh.
when this app works, I love to use it in the car and listen to various stories. Lately, it takes forever to load, and I have to restart the voice reading over and over again. this isn't related to just 1 story but everyone i attempt to listen to. if I can get it started, sometimes I can pause it to find where it left off, but mostly, it just stops reading.
It's come a long way and improved a lot. It is relatively simple and easy to use. I haven't had any issues. Edit update: having issues with document manager. It keeps applying underlining, bold, tilting font it everything when it's not supposed to. Also, removing all the breaks between paragraphs so it ends up as a single wall of text. THE DOCUMENT MANAGER IS A NIGHTMARE TO WORK WITH!
I have been using this app for years. I spend way too much time reading fanfics, but recently there have been WAY too many issues trying to read story updates. They are not loading at all or I will be in the middle of a chapter and suddenly that chapter and others will disappear. You cannot even read them on the website itself. Please fix your stuff.
I'm a writer, and I'm finding out through the reviews that an update has messed up my email notifications. Each time I log in to add a chapter or do editing, it tells me that they've turned off my notifications due to an email issue. It says that I need to add them to my email contacts. I've done that every time I've logged in. I get notifications from the app, but no emails. It's been months since I've received one. I like to listen, too, and that's messed up. Please fix it.
I am getting quite frustrated with this app. Used to it would crash but all I'd have to do is reset the app by closing out and going back in and it would fix it. Now I have frequent times where it will crash and no stories will load unless they're downloaded. It gives an error and says retry. And it will sometimes last for days. I miss the other version of the app I used to have. It rarely ever glitched. But since it doesn't exist anymore. I make do. But this one barely works. Please. FIX IT.
The app isn't.. Optimal. It's very convenient to use so you can read on the go or in a comfy place without the need for a laptop or PC, unfortunately it stops being convenient when it refuses to load things, it's a recurring problem I've seen and I've managed to ignore for the most part, but here I am writing a review because the stories I want to read can't even properly load. I do not care much for the looks of the app, the different functions and etc. I want to at least be able to read.
The app works pretty well but there's one glaring issue that prevents me from using it. The app drains battery incredibly quickly. It does it faster than watching youtube or even playing games. In fact, it also causes my phone to get rather hot which makes me concerned for my battery. I hear that this has been a lasting issue for android phones and this app. I reached out via email to the support, but they never responded.
I use this everyday at work. I put my headphones in and just listen all day. EDIT(sep 2024): im having alot of issues with loading paragraphs. The audio will just stop and take forever to load. It never used to happen. EDIT(May 2025): long paragraphs don't load at all. and every few minutes you need to fuss with it for it to work. Webnovel is 1000x better. I always look for the same story there, then AO3, then here. EDITJune2025:audio doesn't work at all.
For the past few days i have been unable to navigate my stories. It often comes up with "retry" furthermore, the narration cuts off randomly if I put my phone in sleep mode, not all the time, but enough that it's a problem. Finally, I find that some chapters from my favorite stories are missing, even though I know they're out
Been a frequent user of this app for over 10 years. It has had its ups and downs. But after the recent update, it has lost almost all functionality. Stories don't update. Stories update with inaccessible chapters. Frequent sync issues despite only using the app on one device. When you load new chapters (when they rarely work) you have to reload the chapter repeatedly. If this isn't resolved soon this will be a useless app.
I have always loved this app, but lately it will not open anything. It loads and loads and loads and then says retry. I used to reset it by closing the app and now that does nothing. You need to fix this issue. I spent 20 minutes trying to open up my favorite stories to see there have been any updates. I gave up after 20 minutes of load and retry. I am missing chapters even though they have already been published. Fix this!!!!!!!
