verified Security & Privacy Review

YouTube Music prioritizes user security and privacy, implementing robust measures to protect personal information. The app employs encryption protocols to safeguard data during transmission, ensuring a secure listening experience. Users are required to create an account linked to their Google account, which streamlines access but also necessitates the sharing of certain personal data. In terms of permissions, YouTube Music requests access to the device's storage, microphone, and location services. While these permissions enhance functionality, users should carefully consider their privacy preferences and review the app’s settings to limit data sharing as desired. The app provides options for users to manage their data, including the ability to delete search history and adjust privacy settings. YouTube Music adheres to Google's privacy policies, which outline how user data is collected, used, and shared. The app's transparency regarding data handling practices is commendable, but users are encouraged to stay informed about any updates to policies. Overall, YouTube Music strives to balance user experience with privacy considerations, making it a reliable choice for music streaming.

Playback freezing seems to be fixed but the "radio" playlist generation has been significantly nerfed. The previous algorithm played almost no music that was new to me, and the new one plays almost exclusively music I've never heard before. It used to be a pretty good mix a few years ago. The radio also caps at like 20 songs so if you're trying to set it and forget it you're going to need to make your own custom playlist or select a new starter song every 1-2 hours. UI is less user friendly :(

I have Amazon Prime and Spotify, but never use them because this app had everything I need/want, and tell everyone how great it is. Well, I did! I HATE the update! I used to discover long forgotten songs using the "Related" feature. It was easier to get to the "Next" list to rearrange as needed. Overall, it was much more functional. I hope enough people complain and changes will be made at least adding back the "Related" function. (I have this app as part of my YouTube Premium account)

For the most part, I like this better than Spotify. I'm still disappointed how some of the artists I like, there are only 2 or 3 albums available when there are 10 or so. I dislike how when the band has a "the" it's under the letter "T". Some bands like The Dave Pike Set have it both ways so some of their albums are in different places.

It's very good and works with your pre-existing yt subscription. The things I don't like are that the playlists have a hard-limit of 5000 and that o desktop, the website can be very finicky and laggy. The things I do like are there is almost no delay when switching between songs, on both mobile and desktop. The library draws from youtube, so nearly every song is on here, including niche videogame soundtracks.

When I add a song to the queue, it displays a message saying "song added to queue" which covers up the buttons at the bottom, so I have to wait for it to disappear before I can look at my queue. Horrible use of screen real estate. And now it puts a big message over the album art that asks if I want to cast to a nearby device, even though the cast button has always been there in the top corner. I have to hit X to get rid of it, but if my finger is too many pixels to the left, it'll cast anyway.
