I downloaded this app for my most recent trip to California and I’m so glad I did (I don’t know how I would have survived without it)! The app was great at getting me checked in/boarded, keeping me updated on my flight status and luggage status*, as well as keeping me informed on gate changes (which gave me so much peace of mind for someone who has never flown solo before and hasn’t had much experience with airports) *The one suggestion I do have for the app would be to only send notifications about baggage claim to those people who actually need to pick up their bags. Going to California this didn’t happen to me but coming back, I had a moment of sheer terror because I got a notification saying that I needed to pick up my bag for my connecting flight which would have made me late for the next one. After asking the person at the gate if this was true they looked at my baggage claim tag and told me that my luggage would be transferred and that sometimes everybody on a particular flight get that notification even if it doesn’t apply to them. Eventually, the app updated my bag status to being loaded on the plane as I was boarding but I definitely panicked for a good 10-15 minutes. Other than that one thing, I had nothing but a positive experience using the app
I just wanted to make a note about some of the complaints about aadvantage or American Airlines I do not work for either aadvantage or American airline’s . This review is based of a logical approach and a logical opinion We as the customer have developed a “ entitled “ attitude towards the airline’s industry and as such towards society . This rule of “ the customer is always correct “ mentality is giving rise to ignorance . Just because an airline cancels a flight or delays a flight does not give you the right to berate an airline and it’s staff. We as a society are not royalty. Yet you as the passenger make yourselves out to be . Please stop Things happen . I get it . It’s an inconvenience . Hey my plans have been ruined but at the end of the day it does not give you the right to attack an airline and it’s staff just because you have been inconvenienced . We all have . Move on be polite and live to see another day . Be grateful that the airline’s are there in the first place . Just because you have had a negative experience from American Airlines immediately you state “ oh I’m Never flying them again “. Put your big boy pants on and be respectful Thank You
The app is almost always very efficient.... but recently, my seat assignment that I chose in a premium economy as a Platinum Pro an aisle seat 9c when I made the reservation... but I went to check later that week I saw that my seat assignment was changed to a window seat which is not what I chose. Also... when I am in Premium Economy seats or pay for First... it is pathetic that you are not serving beverage service .... and can’t serve a snack or light meal as was our rationale for buying First in the past ... the service and the way we are treated in first.... so obvious that the management is using Covid as an excuse not to give the exceptional service that American has been known for.... other carriers are treating their loyal customers much better... makes you think about your Loyalty to American going forward. Just wanted to let you know how so many of your customers are venting and expressing their disgust with the level of service commensurate with Southwest or Spirit. Thank you! We really appreciate you taking time to share your experience with us.
I had to check in my carry on suitcase for both my flights and then go waste time at baggage claim picking them up. The point of bringing a carry is so you do not have to mess with baggage claim. In the past if I had to check in a carry on they had it ready for you right when you got off the plane, not sore went that's changed but it was way more convenient. Other than that the flight was good
Update 8/20 Thank you for fixing the glitches. App appears to be working much better. Able to pull up mobile boarding pass. Keeping an eye on it I fly in and out of Philly and Atlanta a lot. They've always taken and do take mobile boarding passes but the app will say that the airport doesn't accept mobile boarding passes and won't let me pull it. In addition, when it does let me pull it there's usually some glitch. ALWAYS screen shot the boarding pass before you leave your house as a backup.
this app is fairly good. however there are a few things they could do to improve it. I travel for my job and fly very frequently. When you set up your profile if you are recheck it should automatically put that information into my flightbooking to save time. Also when searching for flights they should allow for filtering out planes that are smaller than desired as overhead space is limited and my largest bag has electronics in it that I refuse to check due to handlers not caring about luggage.
The app largely does what is meant to do. Unfortunately, I primarily want the app for the mobile boarding pass. When I get within a couple hours of my flight I want a quick and easy way to get my boarding pass. A simple way to accomplish that would be to provide the functionality of putting the pass in Google Wallet. Passes in the Wallet will generate a persistent notification that helps pull up the boarding pass. If the app itself would do the same I would be happy. It doesn't do either.
The app is great for keeping you updated for Gate changes ( which happen constantly with AA it seems ). However, the map of your next destination gate, although great in thought , is horrible in design. I attempted to follow it, and it sent me the wrong way!! If it would show what way you are actually moving in the airport, that would help improve it a lot. I will continue to use it as I travel once a month or so , I just won't use the map until they try to fix it.
When trying to check in on the app or see my boarding pass, it gave me an error, ended up having to check in and get a paper boarding pass in the airport, making the main part of the app useless. It also would not allow me to see any info about my flight. It would just get stuck on loading, and I would have to close it out. The info on my gate was not accurate, and my gate kept changing. It was very frustrating as it told us a different terminal. I never had these issues with other flight apps
The app indicates that it will let me update my address, ktn, etc, but when I try to it just silently fails. I had to do it on the website. Update: when I open the app while traveling, the record of my trip keeps disappearing and I have to wait to load my boarding pass. The airport map also wouldn't load while in flight (even with wifi) because it needs location. I'm not rating it a 1 because it was surprisingly easy to change flights when there were delays/cancelations (which is frequent)
I used the app 2 years ago (2023), and it was a relatively solid app, albeit with a somewhat clunky UI and one instance where my gate had changed and the app didnt update me on that until it was almost too late to make my flight (I was running late from a connecting flight). Now, for this trip 2 years later, I have not been able to pull up my boarding passes on 3 of the 4 flights on my round trip so far, so I will have to wait in line to check in. what's the point of having the app?
Redesign looks much nicer, but has A LOT of bugs... Loses my reservation a lot, tells me "Your reservation could not be found" when I need my boarding pass to get on the plane!! Removed the add to calendar button?!? Only shares text, which calendar app can't quite interpret. Please add a Save to Google Wallet button!!! AA is the only airline that doesn't at this point... Still only links to bag tracking from the home page but not the itinerary details page, which disappears half the time.
I have never had a problem with this app, untill this month. Now it won't load my trip details. I dont know if there is an issue going on but now its not working right. Click on the app and the click on my trip and all it does is spin a circle for over 3 min and I have to kill the app and try again with the same results. Checked for a update and even tried installing and retailing the app. nothing.
The app looks okay. It only looks somewhat clean; it feels a bit cluttered. Trying to find your itinerary or boarding passes can be pretty annoying and challenging up until the time your first flight is taking off, at which point it's too late for that first airport security check / gate hunt. By default, the notification priority of the app is so low that any notification for a gate change is quietly buried at the bottom of the list. Unfortunately, my version of Android is hiding priorities.
I don't know if their latest update caused these issues, but the app refuses to load when opened. I constantly have to force close the app for it to work properly. There have been times where it was late notifying me of a gate change (which is unbelievably frustrating when your flight is about to board and you have to run across the airport). It won't save my updated info, no matter how many times I go in and update and hit save. I have to go to the website to actually do it.
changed our flight due to a 40 min delay that would make us miss our connection, so we chose a different flight. The app does NOT show you delay information. Once we chose a later flight, it showed us a 2 hour delay on that one! We now no longer have the option to go back to the original flight to only change the second leg because it's full and we'll be arriving 6 hours later than originally planned.
Absolutely the worst airline app I've used. Flight details in the app are non-existent, you have to go to the mobile website to get any info. Other apps at least link to their mobile site. Worse, the app stops working if you don't use it for a few days. The last couple trips I have had on AA I have had to uninstall and reinstall the app just to check in and get my boarding pass, even on separate legs of the same trip. AA is horrible all around as an airline, and they live down to that here.
There are several bugs on the app. Although frustrating, the most infuriating part is that there is no recourse to have them fixed. The "Mobile Application Issues" phone number? Forwards to reservations. Actually, the top 3 phone numbers on the app all get forwarded to reservations. Reservations help-line? No humans. All automated; fml. Even with a human, they couldn't help. Tip: When speaking to our robot overlords, the keywords "Representative" or "human" don't work, try some curse words.
What has been going on lately with the app glitching out? Everytime I try and look at the seat map it tells me to see the gate agent because my flight is departing in 45 minutes and im looking at flights that are days away. Please fix this. update - the app just keeps getting worse. I have to force close every single time I open it because it won't load otherwise. get your app back in working order please. for those of us who travel weekly, this app is used more often than most.
Got to the airport and my TSA pre number was not connected to the ticket. I entered that when I booked the travel. This is not the first time that has happened. Why can't they set it up so my number is always entered when applicable? The answer? Terrible service and quality. Also, for some reason while waiting to board the app bumped me off, and I had to look up my password to sign back in, and get a verification code. Why?
3/7/2025: negative stars. This app is terrible. 9/8/2023: zero stars. I cannot describe how infuriating this app is. It has so many issues I don't even know where to start. Can't process payments. Can't lookup flights with record locator. Can't search for flights. Can't view boarding pass. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. I have to fly often for work and this is by far the worst app I have. Unfortunately they're the only airline operating from my local regional airport.
It was fine until it wasn't. Yesterday I was able to check in for today's flight using the app. This morning the app won't open, defeating all the convenience of having an app and electronic boarding passes. I'm surprised and disappointed it was not sufficiently tested before release. Thankful I printed a copy when I had the chance yesterday. Millenials, be forewarned!
3/31/25 same issues. also, too often it doesn't show available seats, it just keeps loading. the same happens after with flights - it loads and never appear. delta is looking better and better so often when searching for flights to book, it shows the price up top, but the flights portion is blank and it's loading for an eternity. I have to reboot the app and it still won't work. there's no updates, so why does this keep happening. I guess I'll stick with delta
This is the worst airlines app I've ever used. It is very slow, you have to remember the goofy AA ID they give you, no biometric sign-on, no way to remember your device so you have to continuously go to your email for a verification code. There doesn't appear to be a way to add an externally booked flight to your itinerary, and trying to find the reservation just spins and never comes back. No idea how I'm going to actually get on my flight at this point.
Unreliable. I find it very frustrating that the app now requires 2 factor authentication (2FA) that is very inflexible. There is no way to control meaningful settings within the app. I was in line to board an airplane when the app just logged out, denying access to my electronic boarding pass on which I have come to rely. Logging back in requires access to email that I cannot access from my phone ... FOR SECURITY REASONS. THE IRONY! Had to get a paper boarding pass and board last.
The worst air company. I am flying all the time and this company made nightmare of my last flight with them. They lost my 18 months son’s stroller I went to their office and they said I can go to the store and get the new one , no matter if they find the one they lost and they will pay it for it. I came to Florida on vacation and I can not be in apartment and wait if the find the stroller or not. My kid spend half of the day in the stroller. So As they told me I went and bought the new one and mailed them the bill of the stroller and all other documents. I bought the same stroller we already had (the one they lost) . They never contacted me, It is been one month and half since ot happened, I am calling every day, they don’t pick up. I am sending emails they don’t answer. I spent $800 because of their fault but they don’t care. This is how they respect their passengers. By the way after 7 days they found the stroller they were lost, but I already bought the new one. I couldn’t wait for them and thinking Are they going to find it or not. Even they found it , the stroller were so dirty. The real color of stroller supposed to be white but they delivered to me very dirty , they were actually almost black. I was shocked. I am still waiting for them to contact me and see if they are going to give me my money back!!!!!!
Doesn't even store trips. This is by far and away by multiples the worst airline app that exists. You could be a member for 15 years and be their highest ranking person but the app still does not store a single freaking booking. Is the most convoluted way to try to get on a plane I've ever seen. No wonder they are the worst in the entire world at on time efficiency. No one can even load their ticket to get onto the plane.
Flight 805 from Cancun to phl... April 5 238pm VeriFLY downloaded before the trip. Our trip went as planned and we had a wonderful time. We were not able to check into our flight or make any changes using the app the night before. Our transportation got us to the airport as scheduled around 12:15. This would leave plenty of time to get settled and arrive to our gate. When we arrived at the airport we still could not check in at the kiosk there were 2 lines one for VeriFLY and one If you did not. I explained that I had VeriFLY but it was loading and my husband also had it and I was his companion. We were sent into the main assistance line and we did not reach the counter until 1:45 boarding started at 1:53. The rest of our party was at the gate and relaxed. We were so tired that we even asked if there was a voucher or option to stay and change our flight to the next day. After all of that standing in line They didn’t even ask for the paper of the negative covid test. We were extremely frustrated and disappointed in this process. Other airlines had the option to quickly scan the covid results and keep things moving. We arrived at our gate just before boarding was closing and thankfully friends were able to grab us something to eat. Our luggage did arrive however the wheel was broken off of my suitcase. This was truly a horrible experience.
No filter option, so you have to scroll through all the stupid 2 stop options & the even more stupid 24 hr+/overnight options. It's so overwhelming that it's impossible to find what you really want. I'm not even going to consider this airline with an app that is this horrible. If you make it this hard to find flights, it's not worth the potential cost savings; I'll book with your competition.
Buggy as hell. No way to select a flight when opening details. When closing details it takes you back to the top of the list. When scrolling down to find the one you wanted there are oftentimes identical high level flights with no way to see details without choosing it or going through the bs mentioned above. It's chaotic at best. Abysmal GUI honestly. I used auto fill for the passenger details and it completely wiped it the entire booking out. Just use the website. It's a million times better.
