Changing my review to say the app works much better now. Went from not working at all to working consistently. only took them a long while lol. Im very thankful for it (when it's working properly) because evidently my household can keep track of a single remote. I can't even find the remote I just bought. It's still in the box🤦♀️🤷♀️. So I, and other family members can use the app as a remote when needed! Thank you roku😘
FAIR WARNING: Everything has to be connected on the same wifi (system ?) for the app to work properly, that is the ONLY way I have gotten it to work. That said, It works great as a replacement for when the mini humans play with the remote control and forget where it is... also, it seems the app can control any unit from any place that wifi can reach. It is also easy to switch between, and name, all units in range. It is very much recommended for me.
I've loved Roku for 8 years; my ONLY complaint is that the electrical cord doesn't want to stay plugged into the device. I've just dealt with it but it's just not tight and has come undone. unfortunately this is the 2nd one I've had this happen with. with all the competition today I want to expect better! as far as ease of use and ability #1
I really only use this for the remote, which is what I'm making a review about. My partner has an iPhone, I have a Samsung, and since having this TV, I've laughed that his app doesn't have a power button to turn the TV on and off. (For whatever reason, our actual remote doesn't work for volume or power.) And now I feel silly because mine randomly disappeared like a week ago. Don't know if that's some kind of bug, but I would love to see it fixed. Other than that, it's been great to me.
Only app that works. All the others can't find my TV when I'm standing in front of it. The only downside is that it takes a long time to load and connect to tv. Works only once. when you go back to the app after using it, it doesn't work. has to be reloaded every time. when trying to change to another app on TV you can't look at the screen to see where you're at. you have to look at the remote to make sure you're hitting the right buttons.
the TV and movie experience isn't bad, lots of ads. as far as their new Howdy goes, paying the 2.99 gets those ads removed, but don't think its completely ad free as howdy advertised. movie & TV shows still have plenty of Roku's ads. all ads for roku based programming. if you want to run roku ads at the beginning or the end that's fine. but once the show or movie starts it should be 100% ad free as described. in a 90 min movie there were 5 to 6 roku ads. that is NOT ad free!!!
I don't care for my Roku TV that much. I find that its glitchy and some apps like HBO for example, do not work well on it at all. While those apps work perfectly fine on the other TVs in our house. Even our TVs that are furthest from the router perform faster and with far less glitches. So, unfortunately, Roku, you only get 3 stars from me.
This was one of the best apps hardware combos out there. It use to be flawless for me, I could connect to my 5 different tvs through my house, control the but more importantly be able to connect with my headphones and watch TV. Not only has the app been severally unstable it won't connect to my headphones at all. It freezes all the time now. So disappointing, when I tell you I had no issues in the past, I mean it connected right away, didn't kick me off, it was perfection. Now, nothig work
Issues watching on your mobile device. Will go through part of a show and after the commercial break will start from the beginning. If you try to fast forward to resume where you left off, you have to go through the commercials again and it still takes you right back to the beginning. Have tried restarting/reinstalling the app but the same thing happens.
Roku players are the worst. They disconnect several times a week. Very frustrating. Watching something and then it disconnects. WIFI has excellent signal but it can't connect to the network. It says to move the player around when it is an inch away from the router. The 2nd player is 15ft away. Come on. I bought a stick and it doesn't connect at all. I am really tired of it, only 1 works sometimes. I am not the only one with this problem. Looking into another device. Don't buy Roku players
great when it works, me and my husband have the same phone, and his remote always works, but mine doesn't. I have to restart my phone every time. it crashes, and stalls won't work. I've updated it and everything. It's annoying to restart my phone every time to use it. I've closed apps cleared cache. my wifi is great. There's no reason for it to do what it does. I'm seeing others with the same complaint.
Easy to use and very efficient. I actually prefer the app to the remote it comes with! The big downside currently is that when trying to download pictures to the Roku app for the photo stream option I run into issues. If I try to upload more than 8 individual pictures at a time it freezes my whole phone and won't let me open most apps (just gets a black screen) until I completely restart my phone. It's happened to me on several occasions over the last few months so not a fluke. please fix!
This app has been useless since the update. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it 3 times and it usually works once after the reinstall. It freezes, crashes, or is as slow as dial-up. I hate it because it ran at lightning speed before the last big update. I could always count on being able to control my TVs within seconds of opening the app. I could find the physical remote, take it apart, reassemble it, and change the batteries twice before the app could even load up the main menu now.
Roku will get you. The remotes quit working after 2 years and then the app remote quits after 2 months. The cost of a new remote, pretty much the same as buying a whole new system. Plus it likes to shut down fairly often, especially when I have a good signal strength. Help, not much, after a half hour with a bot then over another half hour with 2 "persons" all of which amounted to bubkis. Sure, buy their product, you will regret it.
I just bought and returned a TV after 4 days because it kept switching to the Netflix app. I wasn't even able to get into the settings. I brought home another TV and had the same issues. I've restarted multiple times, and did a factory reset, as well as many other issues. Still not working. I called support and still was unable to resolve the issues I was on tech support for around 5 hours and still could not solve the issue.
Problems with last update. I've been using this app for almost 2 years with no problems. Now the bottom menu is too touchy. I'll use the remote and go to put my phone down - and my TV switches to another input or streaming service. It happens multiple times a day. I'm going to be trying other Roku compatible remote apps on this store.
As far as roku in itself perfectly satisfied, put the remote app. There are way too many glitches. For example, you pause the TV, but every time you get a message or some type of a notification on your phone, it will unpause. And start playing. And if you're switching between apps, you have to reload the app every single time to get it to reconnect.
I've not had any issues with the app other than an occasional inability to connect to one of my devices. However now my private listening isn't working which we really depend on since one of us works early in the morning and one is a night owl. I know how to troubleshoot a tech issue and have done everything short of restoring my phone which I will not be doing. Please fix it.
Was 5 star. now App closes as soon as it opens. I restarted the phone. I deleted the app and reinstalled it. I deleted cache and data numerous times. internet is working for all other home devices. the roku device is working also. the app is not working. it opens up long enough to load, I can see it is connected to my device then an alert pops up saying the app keeps closing and then it closes. ive had this app since 2019 and it has never given me a problem before. And yes it is updated.
useless at worst, unoptimal at best. I tried connecting to my TV and it didn't show up. Then Itried to do it manually by IP address—nothing. It took 20-30 minutes of restarting my phone and my TV, unpliggimg my router, reconnecting everything, then searching for devices again. eventually it worked for a while, but had a couple seconds of latency for every input. then it disconnected and I couldn't find my device again. I spent more time trying to use the app than actually using it.
