Mostly for avid horror fans! I did the trial version and forgot to cancel, so paid for a year up front. It was only like $60, and I love horror, so I figured we'd probably watch a few things and make it worth it in a year. I'm so glad I accidentally signed up! I've never had any issues streaming (I only use it on my TV, so don't really know about the mobile app). And the variety! I was never one for foreign films, but they have an awesome selection! The original movies we've really liked too.

Shudder is surprisingly easy to navigate (especially compared to the AMC+ app, which is one of the worst apps out there). So far, the only issue I have is that I can't download anything. That's a problem for those of us in rural areas where the Internet is flaky (it's easier to download and watch later, thus negating lags and interrupted viewing).

the shudder app has great content, i love the range of horror movies available and some series too. the shudder originals are fun & if you love all varieties of horror then content gets an A. the navigation of the app is not very user friendly. when compared to other streaming services apps the set up is not intuitive. the navigation menu is at the top. the enter screen is a live tv mid-movie auto play. id prefer to land on my homepage (which is currently hiding being as it's the LAST option). when you search for content (second to last option for some reason) it does not have a smart search and will not find your result until you've typed it entirely. if you want to search movies with NIGHT in the title you can't just search the word NIGHT and see all items that contain the word night you need to search the name exactly. i would also love to be able to search genres like vampires. they have some prefilled categories but it's not very intuitively created. i think if the app end user interface had an update this would be a great experience overall.

I love shudder and what it offers for people like myself who are into the horror genre, and the price for a year is unbeatable. So as a concept for streaming options it is a solid 5 stars. However, the app itself is problematic for several reasons. The search options are not as widespread as major streaming services like Netflix offer. The app has a tendency to shut off suddenly or crash that I do not notice with other streaming apps. It will not save your spot in a show or movie unless you manually exit out of the video to the main screen first, which is not true of netflix. The phone app also doesn’t sync with bluetooth headphones well so I cannot pause and play like I can with anything else in my phone. The phone app does do a good job of showing you the ratings of the movie and details with suggested titles but the xbox app lacks this ability and is limited in presentation overall. So great streaming service but the apps have a long way to go. I paid for a year so it is clearly worth the glitches. Looking forward to some improvements...

I'll do a short Pros and Cons :) PROS 1. Love that they have lots for older horror films that are difficult to find anywhere else. 2. Navigating the app is easy. CONS 1. The Roku Shudder doesnt have a pause feature so you have to back out of what your watching to pause which is super inconvenient. 2. There isnt a list from a-z in to search for in any category which isnt necessary but makes browsing media kind of annoying. 3. For some reason I cant change my caption color? Settings dont help.

App is OK. Shudder could do better as far as the amount of new, FF, indie and international films. There's plenty of old school "campy" horror films out there. For the price there should be a much larger, more diverse selection of all types. Shudder, you were the 1st horror movie app for many, and you're still relevant. However, I must say ya gotta get the good stuff in there, tweak it up! Get that obscure, pleasantly unpleasant, frighteningly insane horror buffs r here for! Best of luck. 👹

Shudder is pretty cool. I wish I could give it a 5 star rating but a lot of the selections can be found on Tubi for free, with commercials and Amazon Prime, which is more expensive but has a greater quantity of horror plus other genres. Btw,Tubi has everyone beat for quantity. Shudder only seems to have about 200 titles. The app is...idk, as with a lot others you can't view the details of your account through it, you have to go to the website.

I love this app, but it could definitely use better features. Most notably, the ability to remove a movie from "continue watching." Movies I've already finished or have decided not to finish stay there in limbo. It's also a bit tricky on starting where you left off if you pause and go back to a movie later. And it's hard to give and keep track of reviews. I'd also like it if it was available on more smart TV options. But I love the app and I love the collections.

It's alright. There's not a whole lot more available here than any of my other services. I don't like that the only option is to pay ahead for a whole year. I'd prefer to subscribe a few months a year as I don't have nearly enough time to watch everything I want before it expires. Also, there's no expiration countdown! Things just disappear. Honestly, I'd probably re-subscribe if they just gave us notice in the app about expiry dates. Oh, ability to temporarily download for flights would rock!

The content is great, but the app is buggy. I frequently have to restart my phone and reinstall the app to get it to cast. It has trouble resuming shows where they were paused, playing new shows at the beginning, and it does not save history of what's been watched. Still highly recommend to horror fans for the content.

I was literally on cloud 9 knowing there's an app that only shows thrillers and horror movies. I downloaded it and subscribed immediately. First, I had to delete and reinstall the app on my apple tv 4 times because it kept getting stuck on shudder TV and not moving to other menu items. Then, you play. A movie and bang, the voices from other movies are playing along with the movie being played. Also, the movie selection isn't that great. Mainly commercial low budget movies.

The app, while it has its issues, isn't really the problem. It's the selection of movies available. The newer/exclusive films they get aren't generally the good or entertaining. Also very little variety in each sub genre, such as creature features.

If you like constant buffering, this is the site for you! I had a code for a 30-day free trial and I don't think it's going to be worth more than that. It has some decent movies, but what's the point if they keep stalling/buffering every 5 min?? I've tried it on many different devices and keep getting the same results. Also, the amount of foreign films on here without having an English voice over is annoying. I want to WATCH my movies...not read them. 😑

some good to ok movies. there are not new ones added often, unless you don't mind reading subtitles. I am canceling my subscription. there was a price increase last year. now another huge price increase. I could see paying more for a streaming service if there was improvement. I see little to justify a price increase such as this.

I love the content but I'm constantly struggling with signing in, password recovery, or my paid subscription not registering properly while still paying for it. Also for some reason, the app cannot be paused by Bluetooth headphones. I listen alot while at work and have to walk away from my phone from time to time so it's troublesome to not be able to pause while I'm away. If there could be some consistency with logging in and a pause feature add I'll change to a higher rating.

Another disappointing review, because the app no longer works with chromecast. I reached out and emailed tech support, with no response. I have looked online and others were saying that if you clear the cache in the app settings it may fix the problem, it didn't work for me. What a disappointment. Hopefully they are working on resolving the issue.

Cool content, but you'll never get to finish it. Tried on this app, the Xbox, my fire stick, AND the web page on my Mac. Same thing. Screens freezing and shutting down and IF you can get it back on, it's at the beginning. Fast forward takes several mins and it usually crashes while you are trying to get where you were. Cancelled my subscription. Sucks though, content looked good

I'm a huge horror movie fan, so I was excited by this app. It also has hard to find films and shorts. Unfortunately, I can hardly ever watch anything. If the app opens at all, the films can never seem to play without constantly freezing or buffering. I can't even watch the trailers without them crapping out. Update 5/20/20: gave the app another try. It was just as glitchy as before. Then I couldn't even use the app. It kept telling me to sign up for a subscription I already had.

Worst customer service ever. Scheduled show isn't on at all. You try to ask customer "support" why not and they send back an email about a totally different platform, showing they didn't even read your issue. You call them on that and they send you a questionnaire about a technical problem. Marketed that X show would be on at Y time. It wasn't. That's a programming issue. Just an attempt to waste your time so you'll give up.

Thankfully I didn't pay for this and just did the 7 day free trial. I can't use this app on Roku at all. It doesn't give me a option to even log in. The app on my smart TV doesn't work well. It's not user friendly either. I can't rewind any of the episodes. It skipped a full episode but marked as watched. The app keeps freezing up too. I won't be purchasing.

After having this app for over a year i suddenly find that i cant watch anything on it. I get a message when i try to play a movie saying that i need to confirm your account to stream. I follow instructions but nothing worked. I have contacted them on line because there is no phone number to complain. 5 attempts with them to correct the issue and no change. I just emailed them once again and told them to cancel my subcription immediately. They better do so. They just suck.

This app is riddled with bugs and is prone to hard crashes, but my main problem(s) are with the service. When I realized that most of the movies and shows on here are free on other services like Plex or Kanopy, I sought to unsubscribe. I got a notification that I successfully did so on the website, but not in my email. I was then charged for an additional month. I brought this up through their supplied customer support email, but I have not received a response in several days. Avoid.

Why would you break your app-- an app for a horror movie service-- in the same month as Halloween!? Your timing is almost as bad as what you've done to Chromecasting on this app. Guess I'm going to have to hit up Vudu for the Halloween horror movie party tomorrow. I'm going to stay subscribed, the movies are good, but if this isn't fixed I'm not sure for how long-- every other streaming service app works.

I can not cancel the freakin subscription! I read the directions on how to unsubscribe through the Google app store and when I go in to the store under subscription, Shudder is not on there. I emailed them several times and the only response I got was "due to the high volume of requests we can not process your email at this time". I'm calling my bank and having all charges blocked from Shudder. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!

Horrible app! Don't waste your time with this. No closed captioning, CONSTANT buffering and no option to watch movies in full screen nor can you even zoom in like you can with Netflix and YouTube..so you're stuck watching movies in a tiny square. The black bars on the top, bottom and sides when watching a movie take up more space on the screen than the actual movie itself.

Shudder does not load videos for me in the app nor in any browser on PC. I used to be able to use either one. It looks like I'm not the only one. I paid for service and can't use it. I don't know how this service has been out for this long and still has this many issues. I previously needed to do a bunch of troubleshooting to make it work, as well. Very disappointing. Error code 2013-200000-318 on Android, getting an encryption key error on PC saying I don't have keys to unlock this content.

There are a few good movies but nothing major. This app is a list of old and foreign films with a few Redbox movies thrown in for fun. When you write a review and it’s not stellar, the review doesn’t show up on the reviews. There are a few gems, yet they are b flicks and very few and far between. Most of the time you watch a movie just to be disappointed. The service works well. Unless you can speak 10 languages or want to read for an hour skip it. I paid for a year so I guess I’m in it. I may cancel soon and they can keep the money. Who knows? Better to just rent a few from companies that don’t cut review or skimp on movies. I looked forward to this app. Now I’m just kicking myself for this decision. I’m writing this because I can’t find a single movie to watch after having shutter for a month. One full month and now I have an app that is as useful as a trampoline in outer space. The scary part of shutter is that I signed up for a year. That’s the first scary thing I have experienced with this app. No name movies most of which have been around longer than my 17 year old daughter. Why can this company not listen to horror fans? This app was made for hipsters and loners who don’t know quality. This is sad because the idea is epic but the execution was lack luster to say the least. There are very few movies on the app and very few worth while titles.

I have been a long time on and off Shudder subscriber, cancelling once getting thru everything new and restarting when I saw new things. One day I decided to cancel and was promoted with a free month to stick around, which I took. I didn’t cancel before the end of that month, and was continuing to watch content under the impression I had simply been put back on my old monthly billing cycle since I hadn’t yet cancelled. About 2 months after the free month, I went to cancel again only to see they had actually restarted my subscription at an annual billing rate. They changed my billing terms, pulled almost $60 from my account in the middle of a pandemic, and when I asked for an adjusted refund with the months used deducted, I was provided with a screenshot proving I had been using my account and that these were terms I agreed to. I think it’s beyond sneaky to offer a free month and slip in a complete change of contract, and then do everything in your power to keep someone from recouping their losses. I enjoyed Shudder and would have continued to subscribe on and off as I had been doing, but once the annual cycle is complete I’ll be continuing my crusade to let everyone know this company cheats its loyal customers out of large chunks of money in the most desperate of times.
