Have used the app for years. Still buggy. Now there's a streaming ad glitch, maybe linked to ad break length variation. An ad freezes on screen with up to a couple of mins of ad break left. If captions are on, those for the show's next part appear atop the ad graphic--no video from the show, zero audio, just captions, changing as if the show's on. Ad timer gets to zero, nothing happens. Captions go on. I have to back out of the stream and go back in. Ad break up to 3m 39s restarts. Annoying!
What is going on,Channel 4? It was a great app,but it keeps signing me out & doesn't want to give me 'my shows'. It has been saying for some months now 'we can't get the latest data' - retrying doesn't do FA. I've had the automatic signing out problem on various devices,so you can't blame my hardware/software. I can't get the information about my shows on any device either. Your programmes are great Channel 4,but this app needs looking at. You're going to find some viewers give up & go elsewhere
Too many adverts. I understand the need for them but it's too many. I'm now putting up with the adverts because the shows are so good. By far the best. I was tempted to up grade to get rid of the adds but the app is sooo glitchy, I always get connection to server lost and problems with downloads. I'm using both WiFi and mobile data when this happens. Could be great but falls short. Using fully updated s23 BTW.
They've finally fixed it so it kind of works for Chromecast with Google TV. A few of the initial bugs on Chromecast with Google TV have already been fixed, but there's a major omission in that you can't stream live TV. Given that I can stream live TV and restart live shows on my phone/tablet, it seems like a major omission that could surely be easily included. Given it took 4 years to even support Chromecast with Google TV, I won't hold my breath while waiting for live TV support!
Great content, neglected streaming options. I paid an annual fee for an ad-free experience, but since then casting to my CCwGTV has stopped working. There is no native CC application (why not?) and customer service can't tell when it'll be fixed (it's been months). I've since cancelled the subscription. There are also no subtitles available when casting, which is a massive accessibility and usability problem.
So on the TV player after the first set of adverts the programs just stops and a circle appears on the screen(Like it's buffering ) and nothing happens. If you restart the program or go out and go back in it's the same and just won't start after the first set of adverts. On the phone app and via Google TV it works fine (For now) so not a big issue just a bit of a pain.
The fact you charge premium ad free subscription but customers still have to watch contractual adverts on certain programmes is absolutely ludicrous! Granted they don't go on as long as the routine ones but it's neither here nor there. Should be made more clearer for people before luring them into subscriptions that claim to be ad free viewing !
Not a very good downloadable experience. Takes too long as it constantly queues itself, then doesn't download until you restart the app or phone. I also get this weird scenario where if say episode 10 is at the top and episode 1 is down a bit, the app forces me back up to the latest episode (10). So if I wanted too, I cannot download episode 1, 2 and so on without it doing that. Please make that stop Channel 4.
Don't know what is wrong with Channel 4. This app has not been able to cast from Android app for months. It will play the adverts fine but flatly refuses to cast any actual content. They've finally launched an app for Chromecast but that is only barely useable. Again, the adverts play flawlessly but programmes keep freezing to the extent that they are almost unwatchable. Had a paid subscription for years but no point until the service actually functions.
Utter s h i t e Makes you watch a ton of adverts, crashes, then makes you watch a ton more adverts before not returning to where you were up to. You then try to skip forward to where you were up to and guess what... makes you watch a ton more adverts. And even then doesn't bloody work! And to add insult to injury casting F1 to TV doesn't work. They know about it, I've emailed them, as have many other people, yet they don't fix it.
App seems to get worse and worse! Very unreliable casting. Programmes frequently need to be restarted (meaning more ads!) Recent updates have introduced a random black square on the screen when casting. It doesn't go away when you dismiss the app, so you go to Force Stop only to find that it's neatly covering the ok button. Bottom line is that after each time I use the app I have to restart my phone. Poor user experience. It's a real shame because there's a huge amount of good TV on Channel 4.
What happened to the app? Used to work great on my phone, lately all I get is an error message that the programme is unavailable or unable to download data. Tried uninstalling and restarting but no luck, tried data instead of WiFi but no, not working at all. Might as well uninstall and save the space on my phone.
Can always manage to cast the adverts but then fails to cast the program you want to watch! Edit (12/09/24) Got better while but now back to normal with casting failure after ever ad so can't get to see the programme. Useless. Edit (07/01/25) still can't cast to Chromecast. Do your advertisers know they are not getting people watching C4 because your app does not work? Still useless.
Really poor quality service!! Every time a programme goes to adverts, it buffers for 2 mins on top of the ads to find it's place in the programme again. Sometimes it manages to play the show, sometimes it doesn't, so then you have to reload the episode, then sit through the adverts all over again. . Watching a whole episode through is like pulling teeth, it's an absolute joke!!
This app is absolute Garbage! Every time you get to an ad break the ads play for what seems like hours, then when the program is supposed to start the app just crashes and says "This is embarrassing". The only way to get it working again is to restart the app and start watching the show again from the beginning because it doesn't save where you were in the show. You then have to sit through all the ads again and try to fast forward to where you were in the show and hope it doesn't crash again.
Subscribed for 7 day trial, couldn't access anything included. Kept saying log in, I was, shut app & reopened, signed out & back in. Rang helpline, was told can't see it on account, worrying given becomes chargable after 7 days. Found it when, went to see what happens if press to sign up again. It said I already signed up & to go to manage subscriptions. Did this, says log in to activate, still didn't work! Ended up just unsubscribing
Absolutely useless Can only watch adverts, then connection issue They're just making money from advertising and not giving a thing back, y'know, like TV shows Could cast, can't now and haven't been able to for a while, being deleted and DVD's of the stuff I want to watch on order. spend more time watching adverts than programs! Answer your phone, 4 minute unskippable ads. watch a 23 minute program, 7 minutes of ads. I know they are trying to get you to pay for premium. However, this is ridiculous. In response to your answer. The quantity of adverts is because of the poor implementation into the android system. If you've watched the adverts for the program, don't make people watch them again for using their device. Point missed. Nice one C4
can't cast to tv, smart tv and also a chrome cast plugged in..all on same network and the app can't find any device to stream to. channel 4 just can't get cast to work at all. massive fail. I have the latest chromecast and it wont stream. tried 2 different devices same result. I can stream from any other app. Channel4 app wont cast. always been useless to be fair.
Terrible, terrible, terrible!!! Used to work fine. But every time I try to cast to my google chromecast I get a message saying, "A playback error occurred, re-cast to try again" It let's you watch the 3 minutes of adverts and then lo and behold, you can't watch your program. Pathetic that you can't even download the c4 app straight to the chromecast, when every other big name app is on there. If I could give zero stars I would!
