The last time I played Myst was on a old computer when the game was only point and click with a mouse! This version is awesome! The freedom to explore in a 360 ° 3D world really draws you in that much deeper into the storyline of the game. I just wish they had continued to make newer games like this!
Excellent official port of my favorite video game ever. For obvious reasons it devours the battery, but was able to play through just fine on a chromebook (haven't had a crash yet). The controls are probably the best choice available for a touch screen, though interacting with objects is a little more troublesome than expected at times (I often ended up walking when I tried to toggle a marker switch). Still, a fantastic port.
Excellent remake. The new 3d environment makes the game more approachable than the original, but also makes controls a bit more awkward. Overall it's a net gain on the experience. Remember, if you get "stuck," two finger touch makes you back up and often times disengage with an object.
This is an extremely well done recreation of the game. It's not just a simple remake. The 3D movement engine changes the experience almost completely, giving this classic game a new feel. I would advise anyone who has even a remote interest in graphic adventures to give this a go. Also, be sure to take notes while playing, and make sure you have a few hours to spare
First - I don't understand why any negative reviews exist. This is an amazing update to an amazing game. I bought Myst on the day it was first released in 1993, and immersed myself in the world for the next couple weeks. There were no hint guides, I had to figure everything out with a buddy who also got the game. The puzzles were fun and challenging - all that is here! But now it's not point and click, it's pure FLUID movement through these beautifully-crafted ages. Ever wonder what's at the back end of the potato ship (as my young son called the rail vehicle in Selenitic)? You can go have a look. It's nice to be able to do that in a world many of us were immersed in so long ago. There are a couple things I hope get updated... first, there are a couple places in the game that are extremely dark. It could bring your game to a complete standstill with the touch screen; the Mac version let you click your way out, but the touch screen gives no indication where you can go. Potentially a big problem. Second: it is awkward and difficult to have your finger blocking the screen while you play. This is not the best way to play IMO, a virtual joypad (user-defined) would be much better. I never use controls like this when I have another option, I hope Cyan fixes this in an update in case I want to play it again in the future. But overall I still give it five stars. One of my fave games of all time...
I played Myst when it released in 1993 and it was a game my parents and I loved and hated cause it was so frustrating on the puzzles but very well done of a challenge! When they made the guide later on after countless times trying the puzzles together, It was easier for us all to enjoy it even more, immersed in to the world of Myst and finish it. Years later after grown up and understand the puzzles more thoroughly, I played Myst again, Riven when released and the other Mysts later on that came after and enjoyed them all. Now present day, 31 years old and seen that Myst and Riven has came to the Apple community, I immediately purchased realMyst and Riven and dwelled right back in the nostalgia world! This version is a updated graphics and real swipe and turn based that was not in the original and I loved it! Thanks Cyan for continuing on your amazing Myst series to present day mobile and tablet devices!
First time playing this. Great game. Controls are wierd at first but its easy to get used too. Puzzles are very hard, but there are logic to finding the awnsers, you just have to look, listen and pay attention enough 😜😜 Not a game to be rushed, take your time and use your head and you will get thtough the game
I bought the original Myst for the Mac back when it was first released. At the time the imagery was amazing with a great sound track and a cleaver use of Sound, Video, and puzzles. I have to admit I was a fan of the whole story line and bought the first two books. Last week I downloaded an old Macintosh emulator and the original Myst. 256 color 640x480 images with tiny little videos was very unimpressive. I bought this version for my iPad 4 and have to say It is true to the original and brings a nice immersive feel to the world of Myst with great quality. For those who are into modern video this may seem a bit dated, but it is great as far as I am concerned. I loved the addition of the Rime Age. I remembered a number of the puzzles and others felt like learning a new. I am looking forward to grabbing Riven for iPad too.
I was mesmorized by this game as a kid back in the 90's and it still stands the test of time today! Re-playing it brought back so much nostalgia. The puzzles were still quite challenging, even for my 37 year old self, but well worth figuring out. Such an original storyline and beautiful design! This is a great re-make. I saw some other reviews listing bugs in the game, but I didn't experience any issues whatsoever. Very smooth gameplay with easy controls and fast loading. Highly recommended!!
Game brings back amazing memories. The Myst series is, by far, one of the best first person puzzle games. Anyone who has never played, it is a must to discover. I have purchased both this game, and Riven the sequel. I am greatly hoping that these developers continue on to providing Android based versions of Myst 3 Exile, Uru Ages beyond Myst, Myst 4 Revelations, and Myst 5 End of Ages to play in this capacity. I certainly will be purchasing them, if they come out. That would be AWESOME. Thanks.
I loved this game way back then and I still love it now!! I saw people having trouble getting the final image to show up, I figured out the last crystal is pink not purple. Now I'll have to get Riven and see how much I remember of that one! 💖 and as for Stoneship Age, you have to turn on the lights inside the ship with the giant looking compass on the floor of the hidden room. The telescope outside gives you the clue on which button around the "compass" you need to push, it's tricky 😜
The story is compelling and the sceneries especially garner curiosity and awe, tying one into Myst's world. The puzzles vary from modest to crafty with the use of even audial and chronal elements. Frustrations weren't a worry with some patience and thought since the solutions oft came from discrete, rarely obscure sources. The controls may be odd; however, I found it barely affected my experience, if at all. Overall it was a delight playing, and I would do so all over again if I could forget.
Has some small bugs, nothing that a reset to an earlier save won't usually fix. When you click a book and one video should show, then thereafter the other will, that's where I had the hardest time (never got the first video for Atrus, who does actually have pertinent info). Other than that, the UI is about as good as any mostly-interactive world; play is the same as I remember in my youth.
Bug in Channelwood: if you reenter Channelwood to collect the colored pages, the door to the spiral staircase will be shut as well as all elevators leading to the upper level will be out of reach. That makes access to the upper levels, and hence the pages, impossible. If I'm not mistaken, it could even prohibit you from finishing the game. This bug should be fixed, but it's probably too late to ask for a fix after all these years. Otherwise, nice classic game.
Shame I can't rate it higher than 4 over a silly yet very detrimental issue, that being the controls; feels like an unholy mixture of point and click movement mixed with free roam, where as an analog stick ala mobile FPS would've been much better. Some of the in game help refers to old sites that no longer exist, but walkthroughs always exist. Other than that it's the same legendary Myst for mobile.
This 3D rendering of Myst was a real treat for me. I've had a copy of Myst on pretty much every computer my family's ever owned, but was never able to solve the difficult puzzles as a kid in the 90s. As an adult it was a lot of fun to come back and actually make progress in this beautifully designed world. It offers pure nostalgic bliss and never stops delivering. It's not a perfect game however, at least not on the iPhone. The small screen required me to often lift my finger and replace it to continue my walk around any tight corner. The touch screen is very responsive and for the most part works excellently. But, almost every winding staircase and tight turn gives me grief every time I interact with it. I'm sure on the computer it's much better, but for $6 this game is still a real deal. I'd give it 5 stars if not for the periodically awkward controls.
I loved the entire Myst series when I was a kid and my dad encouraged me to play, too. I was really excited to see this was playable on my iPhone and I’ve been immersed in it for a few days now. I’m trying not to cheat so I can figure out the puzzles on my own. The most frustrating part isn’t in the game play, but in the design of it for mobile application. The menu bar on the bottom sits right on top of the bar on the iPhone that allows you to switch apps. It’s a pain in the rear to pull up the menu to save bookmarks. And then again to try closing the menu, it pulls down my iPhone menu. Last thing is I distinctly remember being able to carry multiple pages on the PC version so you didn’t have to go back to the Age to get the second page, but the mobile app only allows you to carry one at a time. Other than that, I’m really having fun with the game, but would heartily welcome an update to the UI.
Extremely difficult to control actions and placement of traveler. I really like the game, but it is frustrating. I had the original pc game in the 1990' and really enjoyed it. if I have to continually fight the game to get the traveler to where I want him to be I probably will uninstall the game. It's no longer fun.
Unfortunately had to ask for a refund as there are no (options for) captions for audiovisual fragments which may or may not contain clues, and this severely limited my ability to enjoy the game as a hearing impaired person. Other than that, unusual controls but intuitive enough to make for interesting and engaging gameplay.
The original Myst is a masterpiece on PC. This Android port… Well… The touch controls are quite annoying. It claims to work on Android TV (requiring a gamepad), but that's not 0. Gamepad is NOT supported, and the game can't be properly played on TV, because the virtual mouse pointer can't control the game. This port was meant to be played on a real touch screen, and even then it is imprecise to control. Oh, and it claims to require storage access, but still works fine if the permission is denied.
I love the game... But it NEEDS the option to navigate the previous way. Point and click arrows, that's part of why I like the game. You didn't have to wonder where to go, there was only so many options to choose from. I played the game for 10 minutes and realized there was no way I was going to play this game with controls like this. Has an option of turn while moving, but did not improve movements. Please add the old option as well.
