It's amazing. It takes a while to get used to the controls. It's quirky, a bit frustrating when you pick it up at first, but once you get the hang of it, man it's sweet. This is the real deal. No "looking up", no "high res textures", no nothing. Just the good old fashioned Doom, in all its oldness. Nitpick: when level selecting, could you make Hurt me Plenty the default difficulty setting? Thanks Bethesda! EDIT: Please, make the game go landscape without need of phone settings. Thanks.

I absolutely love the game. Runs excellent on my Pixel 2. Controls took a little getting use to. At first I was fumbling around and thinking that it was going to be impossible to play, but I kept working my way through a few levels and somewhere around the 4th or 5th level I got the hang of the controls and now it's just second nature. So glad I can play Doom wherever I go.

This is a phenomenal arcade style shooter and is very reminiscent of the arcade shooters I played in my childhood. I never played the original version, but the port is very easy to pick up and play, but is extremely difficult on higher levels so if a new player I recommend playing on the first two difficulties at the top. This game has a lot of secrets and can be hard at times, but overall an amazing game that I highly recommend if you like arcade style shooters.

Can't believe they actually got around to fixing the game. A great improvement overall. All the other problems I had were fixed. The new interface is strange. Okay for the most part but it lacks the aesthetic the old one had. Still gets the job done. However, all the weapon models are slightly off to the right. I couldn't tell before but I can now. Please fix.

EDIT: THEY FIXED IT!!! It no longer forces itself to be upside down, THANK YOU!!!! Back to 5 Stars STILL Opening Upsidedown, rendering it Impossible to play with a controller case such as Kunaii, Kishi, or Backbone. Hey Devs, when are you going to fix this? I haven't been able to play either game in forever!!! I was hoping this would be resolved quickly and wouldn't have to resprt to 1 star but this is bad. You need to fix this.

This isn't the Nightdive remaster, so you're not getting both Doom 1 + 2 and the Legacy of Rust expansion. If you want a portable rendition of that, get the Switch version. Nevertheless, this is a nice port. It contains Ultimate Doom, and all the really popular map packs (Plutonia, SIGIL, etc.) are available to download for free. This game would benefit from gyroscope controls, though. Otherwise, you really need three fingers to play properly (one to walk, another to aim, and another to shoot).

I remember playing this port and I refunded the game because of its terrible controls. However I heard the new update to Doom was out and this added better controls and widescreen. I watched a video about Doom Mobile’s New Update and heard good things about. I bought the game and to my surprise it actually felt good ripping and tearing the demons. The controls were MUCH better and I loved the new update controls. Widescreen made Doom SO much better. There still is a problem though, I really wish Doom Mobile worked on iPad’s. It works but the screen isn’t full sized so thats kind of a problem but besides that problem, Doom Mobile is now really good thanks to the update. I will play Doom Mobile more now thanks to the update. Thanks ID Software for fixing this big issue in Doom Mobile. However, if they added iPad Support and Keyboard and Mouse, Doom Mobile would be perfect. Thanks ID Software and the other people who worked on this game fixing the problems with the Doom Mobile Port.

This game is great, just one thing that I'd love, more customizable options. Like being able to move around the joystick and shoot button, making the joystick stay in place, and changing the sizes of them. Another thing that could be added is, multiplayer. Multiplayer is essential when it comes to doom, it doesn't need to be added, but I'd be an insane edition. Thank you for spending time to read this, have a good rest of your day.

Overall, the ports for both this and Doom II are great, as far as mobile ports go. They run well, you've got all sorts of add-ons to play, and it looks great. My only issue is that you can't adjust the controls outside of changing sensitivity. The controls aren't horrible, but they would be much better if I could move around and alter the size of the buttons.

Great, classic experience held back by finicky touch controls. I much prefer to play DOOM on my phone with an attached controller, such as a Razer Kishi or Backbone. With a controller, however, the experience is greatly improved. The only thing I'm really wishing for is some longer aspect ratios. Phones are getting 'taller' and it'd be awesome to take advantage of the extra screen space. All petty issues aside, great port and a bona fide classic.

This is honestly a great way to experience DOOM nowadays! Though I will admit that the touchscreen controls are a bit akward to get used to if you're used to games like this on other platforms. The game works great with my PS4 controller, though occasionally the inputs will get stuck for a few seconds, but it isn't that much of an issue for me, but I hope the guys at Bethesda will patch this up soon. Overall, It's still a really fun game to play despite its minor quirks. I'd definitely recomend!

I'm playing on a pixel 7 pro. The issue i've run across is if I try using my 8BITDO GAMEPAD. As far as I can tell there's a button for everything except shooting or using your currently equipped weapon, so when this bug gets fixed i'll be happy to give a 5 star rating. Also this bug, glitch, or whatever you wanna call is also in the mobile version of Doom II as well, so it'd be nice to see the problem fixed on both games please. Other than that still a awesome timeless game full of fun.

It was pretty good The few problems I did have where the controls. When you first play the game, they feel super wonky, but when you play more you get used to them. I also encountered a bug that happened way more times that I would have been fine with where the joystick part of the screen merges with the aim and shoot part seemingly at random. This bug lead me to quite a few unfair deaths. Overall its doom, and it's on your phone.

This is DOOM. It plays nicely (as it should for a nearly 30 year-old game), but sadly... I think this game hits below what it could. You can't move the interactive buttons from the left side of the screen to the right. I don't know what kind of monster-mash hand they expect me to have, but I really would like to move the buttons around at the very least. Also, sometimes 'always run', despite being turned on, sometimes stops. I don't even know if it's a glitch or if I did something.

Overall the game is a really fun experience. It is just like the original and the controls are alright, however there is a bug that will not let me load my game saves. Whenever I press "Load", the game either crashes or freezes. In my opinion, this ruins the experience. I have heard other people have had the same problem. If you fix this bug, I will update this review.

The game runs great (using iPhone 7+) and is the full classic Doom experience! Unfortunately, there are a couple key things missing that hold this port back from greatness: 1) No controller or keyboard support. Doom was originally played using arrow keys and the space bar, no mouse required. Since iOS supports external keyboards, this would have been really cool. iOS also has native controller support, which this port also lacks. It’s a shame to have to use touch controls as they are probably the worst input method for an FPS. 2) Almost no touch control customization. You can adjust the sensitivity of the “look” tracking, but that’s it. No side flipping got south paws, no movement joystick adjustment, to touch zone customization. This stuff is really nice to have if you’re going to force us to use touch controls. Input controls make or break an action game like this, and I’d say the crossover between classic Doom fans and touch control fans is extremely small. If these were changed, this port would be 5 stars easy.

This WAS a great port to play with the Razer Kishi phone controller. It worked for years, then at some nebulous point in the recent past some update happened and now the game (AND Doom 2) will only display upside down. This makes it impossible to play with a controller, and therefore impossible to play because the touch controls are not an option. This really, really sucks because until it's fixed the game might as well not exist anymore, and it wasn't this way even half a year ago.

Not the best port I've seen, but it could be worse. The touch controls are difficult to get used to when you're used to mouse and keyboard. Sound effects are a little off too. Death cries and door open sounds are deeper than they should be. If you have access to the original IWADS and a source port, do that. The best way to legally get the Doom IWADs is to buy it on Steam. Normally I'd give this a 2/5, but it's DOOM so I'll add another star.

The old port of this actually had pretty good controls. This one is laughable. The move stick has a tap to run setting that you can’t change and it also has a pretend sensitivity to it so that if you hold the “stick” further you run faster. I end up basically walking around the whole time because moving my thumb halfway up the screen to move the proper speed is clunky and blocks the view. The tap to shoot setting is awkward as well and something that plagues touch screen games in general, if you want to shoot you can’t aim. You have to aim, pick up your thumb and hope the enemy doesn’t move and if they do, use the awkward strafe stick on the left. Automatic weapons are also not hold down to shoot like you might expect, you double tap for that as well. The old controls where there was a shoot button was awkward but made more sense. Other than that this game has been awesome since it came out so don’t be surprised by anything, you might just be wishing for some arrow keys and the ctl button instead of the clunky crap controls they slapped in here.

Very good, but NEEDS better controller/key mapping support. Having played most of the doom games out there, this rendition definitely holds up nicely...With a few caviots. Control over your experience is incredibly limited. As somewhat of a power user, I enjoy being able to have fine control over my experience through tweaking settings: graphical, gameplay and otherwise. When I just want to relax, I want to be able to set a controller profile, max my settings and go, both things absent here.

Doom needs no introduction as it’s the most influential FPS of all time that people still play to this day. With the game’s 25th anniversary coming up, Bethesda and iD trusted Nerve to make a solid remaster of Doom 1 and 2 to resell on modern consoles and mobile devices. How unfortunate then with how bad these ports are. They may have fixed the issue with the slower music, but there is no reason for this game to run capped at 35 FPS with no option to change it. Hell, the mobile port you could get before they replaced this ran at a perfectly fine 60 with no drops, so I don’t know how they managed to screw the pooch with the Unity engine of all things. The aiming also feels terrible due to how your aim drifts whenever you swipe instead of just stopping. Thankfully, this can be bypassed by enabling a controller, but then you run into two more issues: non-rebindable controls, and more importantly, you cannot access the weapon wheel while using a controller, you can only cycle through weapons manually. WHY?! Just let me hold down a bumper and use the analog stick to select a weapon instead of taking a millennium just to cycle through everything I have just for the weapon I want. Hopefully this port will get to a point where it’s acceptable, but right now you’re better off just jailbreaking your phone and porting Doom to it yourself.

I love doom, and when I saw it finally got an update for the most recent OS I was super excited to finally get to play on my iPhone again. Installation was fine, and the game looks pretty great (although I wish it could take up more of the screen during gameplay) but there is one glaring issue that removes all benefits and makes a download not worth it. The controls. The controls make this game almost completely unplayable, especially in the way that Doom is meant to be played: fast paced and frenetic action. With how poorly the controls were optimized for this release, it makes sustained fire for any gun difficult, and maneuvering extremely difficult because the aiming touch controls are very sluggish and non-responsive compared to how they should be. Walking/running is fine, it’s the aiming that makes the game unplayable in the fast-paced way doom is meant to be played. The old control style was fantastic. Bring that back and all will be well in the Doom mobile world because this update, as of now, honestly was a little insulting. I want to say I paid 7 or 8 dollars for the game but my memory is pretty bad, and after waiting years for it to be compatible again I would expect it not to have such a glaring oversight in playability. I’m holding out that it’ll get an update. Please do consider fixing the controls.
