I’m just a normal user of iOS devices and probably don’t understand all that I could do with Ookla, but I love having it available in my “utilities” folder. I probably use it 3 or 4 times a month, both traveling and around town, as I find myself running into “performance” issues. With Ookla, I can quickly pinpoint if there are any connectivity/speed issues with the internet provider at hand or if there are other things I need to check out. Just last week at home, I thought I noticed an issue. I ran Ookla and discovered that for the first time since we signed up with CableOne as our provider 18 months ago, they were delivering only half the guaranteed download rate. I called them, they verified the problem was theirs and resolved it. Without Ookla, I would not have had the data to back up my concerns when I called them.

I love the Speedtest App. It let's me know the download and upload speeds I'm getting. I've recently had new Broadband installed, which hasn't worked properly since day one. Using Speedtest let's me update my provider with the speeds I'm getting. I use it so much, I paid about £1.00 to go AD free. In my opinion, it's a must have app..

This is a great app. All their features are free to use, and easy to understand. The adds do not affect the user experience, but are still easily visible to users! The paid version of the app offers advanced features for a low price. The VPN is secure and free for 2GB, which is great! A paid version is available with unlimited usage, and it's way cheaper than mainstream VPNs. Great app, well done developers!

***Edited*** can now add 20 favourites!!! Thank you for listening. ***Original Review*** Wonderful little app that tests my internet speed and also includes Down Detector. It's super helpful. My only gripe is you can only add 3 favourites, wish I could add as many as I wanted. I'd be willing to pay for that. I've paid the cheap price for ad removal, please add more favourites options.

Easy to use, Speedtest by Ookla has a user friendly interface and is simple to read and understand. They have small ads that pop-up but they do not interfere with your functionality at all nor do the ads delay your ability to run a test at any time. While an add free pro version is available its almost entirely unnecessary. Props to this company for finding a way to generate ad revenue without ruining customer experience!

The latest update introducing separate “multi” and “single” connections testing was a dandy. Just a great idea that provides very, very useful information in terms of gauging in-the-moment download/upload bandwidth capacity. On top of that, the app continues to run as reliably and smoothly as ever. All that being said, however, I’ve found the “Notes” option for results less and less useful because of the inability to filter test results so that those with notes can be viewed separately. Scrolling through dozens and dozens of test results to find those with tagged with note icons so that they can be analyzed and cross-referenced while tracking long term connectivity performance is far too cumbersome and time-consuming. Call it nitpicking, but it voids the usefulness of the “Notes” feature as an analytical tool. With a simple filter option, though, that issue vanishes. If/when that happens, I’ll gladly bump my rating up to five stars and send due praise in an updated review. Hello, Sorry for the trouble. We just updated the app to version 4.0.7, which should fix this problem. Please update and let us know how it goes. Thanks for using Speedtest!

I have used this app and website to measure real time download and upload speeds both in professional settings and in my own home for about the last 4 years. But I have noticed something peculiar lately. I use the Nighthawk app for my home network management and they recently added a Speedtest feature. So the curious thing is that most of the time the Nighthawk app will show somewhere between 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps but every other device will show only about 10% of the download speed, sometimes including my phone running the app. Regardless of being on the manual 2.4/5ghz bands or in the router’s smart mode. The upload speed is usually consistent between all devices. And the speeds shown really don’t change as devices are taken off the network. This includes a smart tv, PCs and other peripheral devices, gaming consoles, phones and tablets. Any idea as to why the major difference between the two?

Something that needs to be put back in is the cat Easter egg. Little touches like that are what caught my eye in the first place. That would make it five stars again! Brought a smile to my face. Otherwise great work guys! Anyone who is having trouble getting a read from their phone: your cell phone connect in different ways than your computer. Most carriers tether you to two or three towers to give you stable signal. These towers aren’t always close by and can be over 100 miles away depending on where you live. In mountainous regions your phone will connect to any tower it gets a signal from which won’t give a proper reading but the app can only work with the signal it’s given. There are apps that let you choose what towers you are tethered to but I’m not here to talk about them. I’m here to sing the praises of almighty Ookla! Long may she reign!

A handy little app, however there is one aspect I would like to see improved and that is the choice of test servers. Not everything is available from within the country we reside in. The choices here are heavily weighted to Australia and Indonesia our nearest neighbour, when in fact I am downloading from further afield, As such, it would be great to be able to access a sample of servers in other countries without having to scroll continuously towards the end of a seemingly bottomless list.

Only one complaint, for some odd reason it doesn't give my correct location. It picks a server in Las Vegas and says I'm only 135 miles away when I'm actually 1,000 miles away. It use to pick it up right but one day i got on and was going to test my connection and every since then it hasn't done right. I've uninstalled and everything but still no luck, even factory reset my phone still same issue. Other than that it's an awesome app, very accurate speed wise, not location wise.

Edit: Not sure what happened with last few updates, but now it won't pick the best server. Also, the new ping stats are confusing and the help section doesn't explain anything really. PLEASE FIX! I rely on you guys heavily. Prior: I've used this app for years. It's very reliable and easy to use. For only $.99 all ads are removed and I can install it on ALL my devices ad-free, even when I get a new one. Highly recommended for its features and accuracy. Wish it was available for family library.

Error messages and failed speed tests are frequent issues now. Has been a very useful app over the years, but now it's the biggest consumer of battery power on my phone, I've moved on. A whopping 23% of the battery's charge was consumed today. Are they running constant speed tests in the background? I'm not going to find out as I've uninstalled the app. Hope not if people have limited data...

I used to like this app but for me it's no longer reliable. Some of the servers auto selected cannot support high speed internet connections over 5 Gbit/s up and down and thus give 0 test results making devices seem worse than they are connectivity wise. There are too many speedtest servers and not enough consistency and reliability now. It's a shame.

Since version 5.5.6, the app has become noticeably worse in performance. It's laggy, slow, and no longer provides the smooth experience it used to. Whatever changes were made have unfortunately made the app heavy and frustrating to use. I hope the performance issues can be addressed in future updates. it lags on Samsung Android 11 devices

Frankly? It's absolutely useless. Your ISP will panic to prioritize any speed testing traffic to produce better than normal speeds and latency to give the illusion that's any connection issues are the customer's fault. Frontier is the top-tier abuser of this sick and twisted methodology. And Ookla just stupidly logs excellent stats.

There's a bug in the app. Sometimes, the app consumes data when connected to wifi. Had to stop this by uninstalling the app. I don't know whether it's a bug or Ookla collecting user data without the user's consent. Users, please be on alert.

I thought I was doing it incorrectly but it keeps swirling around in its circle but it's not showing you any measurements while it's swirly/circling around. I understand it's supposed to continue measuring, even if not. I've let it go for a long while with good Internet basically & a new Motorola razr from 2024. I decided to just stare & look at it for 15minutes or so,and still no measurement🤔! it's too much UNuser-friendly I'm uninstalling.

Was a good app and cheap for ad removal but I've now switched phones and it just don't seem to want to log me in and even gone down route of the forgotten password and just says email can only be processed every 24 hours so now can't even get into my account and been trying for weeks. So thought I'd see if could set up a new account on the email I set it up on and it has so don't know how that's possible and very dodgey

Used the free ad supported version for many years and finally purchased the ad free. UPDATE: Like many others, I upgraded my phone to the Pixel 6 Pro and now it's impossible to restore my purchase. Ads all over the place when I already paid for the app to remove ads. Shady operation and for that, you get only one star, down from 5. 👎 I switched to analiti which I also paid for about the same time and zero ads in it. Uninstalling Speedtest by Ookla immediately after submitting this review.

I've been using this app for years and suddenly it's hogging all my data. I'm on a pre-paid plan so I keep track of my data use pretty well, noticed the app had used 2.5 GB and I was only a week into the month. I decided to test it toward the end of the month and one test used 600mb. I have no idea what they changed but I'm deleting it from all my devices.

I have tried using this app many times and never get an accurate reading. I go on laptop and use another speed test that is much closer to reality. When it searches for nearby signals, it shows that it reads from areas near 100 miles away from my home while the web based finds signals only 5 miles from home. This app will tell me I only have 14 mbps while I actually pay for 200. When I use laptop it will show my almost 150 mbps out of possible 200. Then i compare to 2 other web based speed tests and they run very close to each other. Then try this app again and still between 14 to 20. Totally useless if they can’t get real readings. Am deleting after many many failed attempts. It just seems they want you to download the app for information collection on users rather than to supply services as stated in descriptions. Totally not cool and just reconfirms my reason not to trust apps very much. Apps are not here for you, they are more about collecting personal information for ads and informational sales to other parties. Ads are killing the positive internet experience. Not the reason I buy a computer, laptop or any other device.

What everyone needs to realize, is that as soon as your carrier senses that you are using this app to test its speed, you have a solid non-throttled connection so the app shows that you have awesome connection. But when you are actually trying to download something or whatever then the carrier goes back to its own nefarious throttling ways. Truth is truth, God Bless.
