Sololearn: Learn to code is designed for a diverse range of users, from complete beginners to more experienced coders looking to sharpen their skills. The app caters to those who wish to learn programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, and JavaScript, among others. It's perfect for students preparing for computer science courses, professionals seeking to transition into tech roles, or hobbyists wanting to create their projects. Users can engage in interactive lessons, quizzes, and coding challenges that simulate real-world scenarios. Whether you're on a bus, in a café, or at home, Sololearn allows for flexible learning that fits into any lifestyle.
The user experience offered by Sololearn is intuitive and engaging. The app features a sleek design with easy navigation, making it accessible for users of all ages. Each course is divided into bite-sized lessons that are manageable and easy to digest, helping to maintain user interest. The interactive coding environment allows learners to write, test, and debug code directly within the app, promoting hands-on practice. Additionally, the community feature enables users to ask questions, share knowledge, and collaborate on projects, creating a supportive learning atmosphere. Users often report feeling motivated by the gamified elements, such as earning badges and completing challenges, which enhance the overall experience and foster a sense of achievement.
Sololearn offers a free version that provides access to a substantial amount of content, making it an attractive option for beginners. However, for those looking for an enhanced experience, Sololearn Pro is available at a reasonable subscription fee. The Pro version unlocks additional features like an ad-free experience, access to premium content, and advanced coding challenges that further deepen the learning experience. This tiered pricing model allows users to choose the level of investment that best suits their needs, making coding education accessible to a broader audience.
Sololearn is committed to continuous improvement, frequently updating the app with new content, features, and bug fixes based on user feedback. The developers actively engage with the community, ensuring that the platform remains relevant and user-friendly. Support is readily available through the app's help section, offering FAQs, tutorials, and a direct contact option for personalized assistance. Additionally, the vibrant community forum serves as a valuable resource for users to connect, share tips, and seek help from fellow learners, enhancing the overall support system within the app.
It's a good introduction to programming. My main gripe, which I'm sure is many others, is the tiered subscription setup. It's not enough to subscribe to pro and get all the benefits, now there's a 'max' tier where you'll get more help/lessons. As more and more learning is blocked behind a paywall, only those of us with 'limitless' funds will be able to educate ourselves thoroughly. This is just another mechanism creating inequality, however small. Sololearn is just more of the same now.
It's a much more polished Duolingo-like experience than the other coding apps I've found, but it still has a LOT of grammatical, syntaxical, and logical errors. I also hate that finishing both Python introduction and intermediate doesn't count as completing Python Developer and that there is no Developer course for the other languages (only intro and inter). On the bright side, the questions are engaging and get progressively more in-depth. It's still good, but could have been much better.
It's good for learning the coding language that you want to learn, except there are many annoying ads. For example, during a lesson, there may be a "Run the program to see the output" which can only be run with Sololearn Pro. Also, there are ads at the end of almost every lesson. Even with this though, I think this is the best app to learn coding. Mimo has good graphics, but you can't even complete the full course without paying, and you can only do 2 lessons a day. Sololearn is better overall.
I've spent a lot of time over a few years with this app. I'd like to say I love it, but overall it's been frustrating. The courses could be more carefully crafted. The streak system is just odd and is often mis-reported. The app has value but really needs improvement. The latest issue is the need to sign out after each use, then log in the next time. Otherwise I'm in limbo not recognizing me and starting as a new user. The only fix then is to Force Close and Clear Storage Data. Yuck!
I used to use this app in college and it was great. AI integration ruined it. Most lessons won't let you use the code playground without paying for the AI tools, so it's reduced to multiple choice questions. Whether you answer right or wrong, every time you'll be prompted to ask AI why. I know why I answered right: I read and absorbed the lesson content. And they didn't need AI to highlight my mistakes for me in the past either, I certainly don't need it now. Intrusive and useless.
