App has so much potential, yet falls short in areas. For a long time I've been having issues with watching recordings - lots of buffering, error messages & being kicked out, as well as screen being dark, even when phone brightness is max. The best way I found to reduce buffering was to repeatedly force stop & clear cache. I was forced to update app today & both buffering & darkness are even worse, unbearable to watch...or try to!! It would also be great to be able to get subtitles in recordings
I love the Sky Go especially when you have sky mobile as I can watch sky from anywhere and I don't use any gig as long as I'm on sky go. Trust me it saves you a good amount of money as you need to have much Gig. You can connect to your sky box threw this to and watch all your recorded shows and the ones you have bought also, and of course you missed your a show well can us catch up on the go to, if you forget to set to record np you can tell the boss to record. Honestly your love the freedom.
Doesn't sync with sky stream, makes me watch first 30 seconds of ads even though I pay for no ads on sky stream, and keeps playing the same as every time. And no shortcut to what I was watching before, so I have to find it again. Really poor ap.
I had forgotten my password so tried to reset. However the password reset is sent via email and you have to leave the app to get the code. You re-enter the app and it's back to the login name and the code you have no longer works!!! Poor experience from such a larger company.
Useless app. I'll be watching a show on TV then finish watching an episode while I'm out, but not only are there ads as soon as the episode starts (very annoying if I picked the wrong episode) I can't skip ahead to find where I got to without another 2 minutes of ads. worse still, about 2 seconds of the show will play before showing another 2 minutes of ads. ridiculous.
Very slow to upload sporting events. I strongly recommend against skygo if catching up on sport is your aim. Wanted to watch the lions on catch up in the evenings/ agternoons, as the games KO at 11am. Often took over 24 hours for thr games to appear available. Poor quality of service.
Great, but getting a slow flicker of bright areas on android devices. Developers - I have a Samsung S25 Ultra. Bright areas (e.g. the sky while watching golf) flicker once every 0.5 seconds (2 Hz). It's like a mismatch in frame rates. I've tried all display setting combinations (e.g. adaptive frame rate) but still no good
Just had Sky Go Extra added to my Sky Account. Tried to access my Sky Q Box recordings via the App on several devices but TV says ".... Your Sky Q box is not enabled to connect to Sky Go". Tried all the usual diagnostic checks etc..... no solution. Phoned Sky Customer Support. They replied "...... it's a problem with the App. You'll have to wait until the App is updated". Not impressed!
I've always liked this app. It is easy to use and connects to your sky box. you can view recordings and delete and watch them through the app. What i would like is something like a wishlist of things show and films you would like to watch. other apps have this feature so why can't the skygo app
If you watch part of a series on the app and part on your TV it does not sync up well at all. Really inconsistent with whether the app works or not because sometimes you just get the loading screen for ages. When it works it works fine, ads make it difficult to fast forward or rewind, needing to put auto-rotate on your phone to view content landscape is annoying as other streaming apps you don't need to do this
Downloaded some content for my child to watch while on a flight. When it came to watching it asked for a pin. I put in our pin and it said it was wrong, when it wasn't. What is the point of downloading content to use when you have no signal if it will not let you watch. Other than that it is generally good.
No casting in 2025? Crazy when they charge so much for the subscription. Wouldn't be so much of an issue if they allowed this app on Google TV (it's on Apple TV devices?). Actually makes more sense to use NowTV flexibly than contract with Sky. It's a better app too.
I think it's a great app, however when you pay £6 extra for NO ads, I'm still experiencing 3/4mins of them periodically on sky go. why? not every programme let's you skip after 30 secs, better yet if you pay for it, remove it entirely? something to bare in mind for paying, loyal customers.
Update - unbelievably slow to open. Poor search, missing series links The app is ok, but has a couple of serious failings. 1. The search function can be poor. Searching for channels (eg. BBC2 or BBC4 HD) can take ages if you can't remember where they lie. 2. Worse, the app has developed a habit of not allowing you to record a series. Needs tightening up.
I've never had issues with this app. It's always worked regardless of the phone I've been using (and I've had many different phones!). The only downside to the app is that the video quality is low regardless of if you download the show or just stream it. It's noticeably lower quality compared to Netflix and other streaming apps.
Why build it that way? A good app until you want to see what is on the catch up section channel 5. When you look you might see a couple of different programs but then you get a good 30 episodes of the same program like fireman Sam or the good fight listed and after scrolling and scrolling and scrolling you might see something else. I don't know if you do it because the broadcaster demands it or something else but just use a drop down list after a user clicks on a episodes. Use common sense!
Absolutely awful app and tv box. Whenever I tune into live sport, the live feed constantly buffers despite saying there is a good internet connection when watching on live tv. Secondly, when trying to use app on the go with downloads the quality drops to 360p and then when I use public wifi or mobile data to watch live sport, I get error messages even the website cant explain only sky users offer suggestions. There isnt a definition of error. I cant believe i am paying £53 for this service.
Recording remotely is great. But available programmes often don't come up in the Sky Go app: e.g. today I searched for something that is on TV tonight but searching on Sky Go it only found it on demand. And even though two series are available when searching on Sky Q on the TV the app only found one series! And why does the TV guide in the app start at ITV/STV/etc. and not include BBC1 and BBC2?! A potentially great app that's let down by poor functionality, updates and maintenance.
Update for 2025 - still the same from 2022!! It's the worst of all the on-demand/streaming apps. Clunky, slow, takes forever to load, constantly disconnects from the Sky Q box whilst in the middle of watching something, can't download a recorded programme because apparently I've downloaded if too many times even though it's the 1st attempt, ads ads & more ads when steaming a programmes, etc. The list just goes on, it's utter garbage but we're stuck with it!
Pretty good. Room for improvement though. Does the job of streaming well. However, you can't switch between Sky box and Sky Go easily. I mean you can't start a show on Sky Go, and then be able to switch on the TV and carry it on from the same point on your Sky box. Indexing is a little strange, and I find it a little uncomfortable compared to other services. But I use it regularly, as it does the job well.
This is definitely the worst streaming app I have ever used. Sky are absolutely shameless though so I'm sure they won't care. Constant connection issues, and I've looked online, many people seem to have this issue. Poor video quality, again, not just me, downright shocking accessibility options, or a lack of I should say. There's plenty of other little issues too.
Is the worst performing sports streaming app there is. Feels like other apps did when streaming first became a thing. Other apps have evolved though and the sky app just hasn’t. Bt sport destroys this app and it’s embarrassing. Low resolution streaming and Not letting us cast is utterly ridiculous. Sometimes we can’t get on the sky box so why do we have to watch on a tiny screen. Awful. When it comes to watching box sets things get worse. Apart from the constant forced ads, (this alone makes me go and watch other streaming sites, even the dodgy ones as they have less ads and a much better resolution) the UI is painful, it crashes a lot and then you have to go back to the start, watch the same 4 ads you’ve already watched 4 times per episode, so you can use the janky fast forward to get to the next set of the same 4 ads you just watched, rinse and repeat till you finally get to where you were. Wanna binge watch a few episodes? Get ready to watch those same few ads 4 times each per episode. Annoying song in those ads. Don’t worry that annoying song will be stuck in your head and you’ll develop a hatred for the product they’re trying to advertise. Worst streaming app ever by a long way. Years later and it’s still the same low res trash. The worst streaming platform in existence. Few years late. Still miles behind every other streaming app. Low res garbage.
The was a problem starting the app. Error 20190000 This is all you will get even if you restart your phone. You can get to the next question in set up if you uninstall and reinstall, but your quickly locked out again by the error message. Unusable, I don't know why these people don't do some very basic testing of there apps , it really wouldn't take much.
Have this on my new Chromebook. Not a perfect app by any means. Often get errors when selecting channels from tv guide. Cant view recordings yet put app on phone and that option is there. Cannot seem to fix errors despite it being widely known when you Google it. Quite disappointed. Ok for occasional use. Virgin have a better app in comparison,
The adverts!!! I start a program and there may be 1min 30 seconds of adverts which isn't great but i can deal with that. What I can't deal with is that with 10 seconds left of the adverts, it buffers and doesn't restart (no loss of signal or wifi), so I have to restart the app, try again and watch the same ads over again... only for the ads to buffer again! Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 attempts on viewing the ads before the program actually starts.
It's just plain awful. I don't use it. I'd rather use alternative streaming apps. Everyone talks about the ads so I'm not going to repeat it here, though it makes it unusable. On top of that, it's terrible to navigate. I can't even work out what premier films there are as sky cinema navigates you to cult classics. Worst service for such huge prices
I watch sky go extra a lot especially when the football season start . I notice you can have subtitles on and on sky news . I have tried to put them on they don't work . It would be brilliant for my as I am hard of hearing and have to wear headphones all the time . You have the subtitles added in the new update but they don't work I would you sky go if they worked . I can't download any programs because you down have subtitles except in a foreign programs . Even sky news doesn't have subtitles . Deaf & hard of hearing people would love to use sky go and download programmes but we can't unless we use headphones . So please but subtitles on your programs and downloads even your sky plus boxes don't have them . We want to be able to enjoy sky go & sky plus on demand to .when the sky plus app going to get updated it never gets updated .
to be honest, I’m about to cancel my entire subscription to Sky after over 20 years. the cost is ridiculous, you pay yet still have to watch ads and idents; the newest movies are extra and as expensive as actually going to the cinema; the back catalogue of previous series for current offerings is laughable and sporadic (eg modern family, GOT, etc - really Sky? with the amount it costs to watch your service and over £12 billion in revenues yet you can’t afford continued licensing rights??); they curate when you watch shows that don’t fit their political agenda (John Oliver, Trevor Noah’s Daily Show - when they’re critical of anything conservative the shows suddenly disappear from the schedule or play at weird times); the new movies and sports coverage is truly awfu and covers the bare minimum, new releases/sports events cost extral; you can’t even cast this pathetic app properly to standard devices - oh, and lastly their spotty and slow broadband throttles any content not Sky-sanctioned, including other media and newspaper sites. I’m hoping things improve under Comcast, but their customers speak of them just as poorly. Do yourself a favour and find what you want to watch elsewhere - it’s not hard and it’ll save you a fortune.
I do not often write App Store reviews. However this app is so broken and such a rip off that I felt I had to at least make it known somewhere. I use this app for one purpose, to watch live TV when I otherwise cannot watch it on TV. Firstly, the level of ads I get from this app is unacceptable. In the era of streaming, to have ads at all is a problem. But to have ads before being able to watch live TV with ads already in is despicable. As someone who already pays £90 for a Sky subscription, and a further £10 so I can have the device slots for my family makes me want to vomit. I primarily watch F1. And to see people all over the world get a superior service, for a tenth of the price drives me up the wall. Apart from the ads, this app functions only after performing some kind of ritual to the gods of corporate TV. I have to restart my phone multiple times to even be able to get the stream up. At first I thought it was a VPN issue, which although I disagree with, I can at least understand. So I turn it off. But still it doesn’t work. Sometimes I have to restart my phone 3-4 times before the app deems my effort worthy to give me the content I pay for. Overall, disgusting user experience, abhorrent pricing, and repulsive levels of ads. As soon as I figure out how to get F1TV working, Sky will have lost my £100 a month.
I love this app. On my ipad it is a portable pocket T.V. I take it to relatives and we can watch pretty much everything. I also use it when I am pootling and scootling around the house. The variety of programmes offered is so varied I would defy anyone not to find a preference. I can now also use it abroad. Well done sky. The only minor downside is it once suddenly informed me that programmes were not available and to try again later. Sky tried to be helpful (their customer service is superb) but they suggested there was a global technical problem. The following day I found the same message and felt sky should have informed me that to delete the app and reinstall it via the app store would have solved the problem. I wasted hours to find this out by myself and to clear this error but it now works fine. The other huge problem is Skys reliance on adverts and not only on this app. They are everywhere and their frequency and repetative nature spoils viewing hugely. They interrupt to quickly and frequently. On this app I turn the sound down and dont watch or listen to them. We as customers I feel deserve better as our fees, like advertisers, pay for a service which is only partially fulfilled. Without this embellishment it woul be worth a five. I do not mind a few adverts but I dont want to share my viewing with their spoiling frequency. A great app with a very varied and versatile choice of viewing options diminished by unnecessary frequent advert interruption.

But I use it regularly, as it does the job well.
to be honest, I’m about to cancel my entire subscription to Sky after over 20 years. the cost is ridiculous, you pay yet still have to watch ads and idents; the newest movies are extra and as expensive as actually going to the cinema; the back catalogue of previous series for current offerings is laughable and sporadic (eg modern family, GOT, etc - really Sky? with the amount it costs to watch your service and over £12 billion in revenues yet you can’t afford continued licensing rights??); they curate when you watch shows that don’t fit their political agenda (John Oliver, Trevor Noah’s Daily Show - when they’re critical of anything conservative the shows suddenly disappear from the schedule or play at weird times); the new movies and sports coverage is truly awfu and covers the bare minimum, new releases/sports events cost extral; you can’t even cast this pathetic app properly to standard devices - oh, and lastly their spotty and slow broadband throttles any content not Sky-sanctioned, including other media and newspaper sites.
Virgin have a better app in comparison,
The was a problem starting the app. Error 20190000 This is all you will get even if you restart your phone. You can get to the next question in set up if you uninstall and reinstall, but your quickly locked out again by the error message. Unusable, I don't know why these people don't do some very basic testing of there apps , it really wouldn't take much.

I watch sky go extra a lot especially when the football season start . I notice you can have subtitles on and on sky news . I have tried to put them on they don't work .

BBC2 or BBC4 HD) can take ages if you can't remember where they lie. 2. Worse, the app has developed a habit of not allowing you to record a series. Needs tightening up.
A potentially great app that's let down by poor functionality, updates and maintenance.
to be honest, I’m about to cancel my entire subscription to Sky after over 20 years. the cost is ridiculous, you pay yet still have to watch ads and idents; the newest movies are extra and as expensive as actually going to the cinema; the back catalogue of previous series for current offerings is laughable and sporadic (eg modern family, GOT, etc - really Sky? with the amount it costs to watch your service and over £12 billion in revenues yet you can’t afford continued licensing rights??); they curate when you watch shows that don’t fit their political agenda (John Oliver, Trevor Noah’s Daily Show - when they’re critical of anything conservative the shows suddenly disappear from the schedule or play at weird times); the new movies and sports coverage is truly awfu and covers the bare minimum, new releases/sports events cost extral; you can’t even cast this pathetic app properly to standard devices - oh, and lastly their spotty and slow broadband throttles any content not Sky-sanctioned, including other media and newspaper sites. I’m hoping things improve under Comcast, but their customers speak of them just as poorly. Do yourself a favour and find what you want to watch elsewhere - it’s not hard and it’ll save you a fortune.
Doesn't sync with sky stream, makes me watch first 30 seconds of ads even though I pay for no ads on sky stream, and keeps playing the same as every time. And no shortcut to what I was watching before, so I have to find it again. Really poor ap.
If you watch part of a series on the app and part on your TV it does not sync up well at all. Really inconsistent with whether the app works or not because sometimes you just get the loading screen for ages. When it works it works fine, ads make it difficult to fast forward or rewind, needing to put auto-rotate on your phone to view content landscape is annoying as other streaming apps you don't need to do this
App has so much potential, yet falls short in areas.

I'll be watching a show on TV then finish watching an episode while I'm out, but not only are there ads as soon as the episode starts (very annoying if I picked the wrong episode) I can't skip ahead to find where I got to without another 2 minutes of ads. worse still, about 2 seconds of the show will play before showing another 2 minutes of ads. ridiculous.

Downloaded some content for my child to watch while on a flight. When it came to watching it asked for a pin. I put in our pin and it said it was wrong, when it wasn't. What is the point of downloading content to use when you have no signal if it will not let you watch. Other than that it is generally good.

I've never had issues with this app. It's always worked regardless of the phone I've been using (and I've had many different phones!). The only downside to the app is that the video quality is low regardless of if you download the show or just stream it. It's noticeably lower quality compared to Netflix and other streaming apps.
