lags when you're looking for something, and freezes frequently throughout episodes and films. Stupid that you have to pay to watch your stuff on your TV just for it to constantly not work. It also decides to play episodes in random orders which if they are filler, you won't notice until stuff doesn't add up. Imagine trying to watch a show, and it keeps freezing and crashing, then when you are more than halfway, you realise that you've been watching the next season on a random episode. terrible
Mirroring others since the last update, totally unable to play anything. edit: most recent update has not changed anything. The app is still unusable.
It's good but the annoying thing on a mobile is that you cannot keep playing in a minimised window like other streaming apps. Not sure if that is on android only and it might work on iOS but everyone else is able to do it so I assume BBC can too
The dev team seem to be working hard to improve the interface and user experience. The app has come so far since I first downloaded it. I have zero complaints. My only suggestion for improvement would a feature where you can delete multiple downloads without having to hold and select, similar to Netflix.
Good on the phone, no problem there. On Fire TV, absolutely rubbish!!! Given up trying to watch a programme soo many times...every 10 minutes 'something has gone wrong'. Can't understand why it works well on my phone but is so bad on the TV?
Downloads keep failing. Streaming works but downloads automatically fail - both on mobile data and when connected to WiFi. BBC Sounds downloads content fine, but BBC iPlayer fails. I used the iplayer contact form via BBC website for help and how to resolve this major issue but still no fix. ANDROID 12 - APP VERSION 41.0.35102 DEVELOPERS NEED TO FIX THIS ISSUE ASAP
The iplayer used to work perfectly well on my Samsung A56. However, in the last couple of weeks it has stopped working - not connected. I've done EVERYTHING recommended, even uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing works. I'm fully out of ideas.
In general okay, but it keeps the screen on indefinitely at the end of a show... my uncle would like to knock off all the stars for this causing a 3am butt dial because the app had blocked the lock screen coming on after I fell asleep! I'm knocking off stars for the videos restarting when the app updates in the middle of the night... stop waking people up!!
needs to be zero stars. App won't work on Amazon Fire Cube even though it is listed under compatible devices. cleared cache, logged in and out, uninstalled and reinstalled, checked for updates. nothing works. open a show and sound plays and image freezes. all shows. useless.
please add faster playback. like 1.25x and 1.5x... some videos are painfully slow to watch and are also likely filed with filter shots making it slower. as someone with adhd it becomes frustrating listening to people speak in slow motion. Netflix has this and they kept the feature. would upgrade to 5 🌟! i have quit watching some videos because of this.
Stunningly bad at being able to show you want you want to watch. It's currently hanging after 'showing' the awful Euros trailer. Now on my mobile and there's no search button or schedule or any obvious way of finding what I want to watch. It's almost as bad as the BBC'S current version of the sport app. Amateurs!
I use the iPlayer on my TV as I do not have an aerial. However, on my Firestick, I have to clear the cache EVERY SINGLE TIME or it will not OPEN!!! Watch the news...close it...then a few hours later, try to watch something else...NO!!! I have to come out, clear the cache THEN open it!!! NO other app' has this problem. Honestly, giving it three stars is being VERY generous!!! FIX THIS ISSUE!!! If you do, I will gladly give it 5 stars.
I love the BBC iPlayer, as there are lots of really good shows to watch. I also love that you can now watch Trailers for the popular shows. It would also be great if there was an option to set it to so that when watching programmes it stays in Landscape mode rather than having to change it every time you watch an episode. Since the recent update, I am now unable to download episodes of programmes, as it just hangs. This is the case on both Wi-fi and mobile data. This needs fixing a.s.a.p
BBC app developers, please can you explain why I'm now having to sign in to every BBC app (news, weather, sport, iplayer & sounds) every time I open them? On each occasion the app offers the option of 'auto sign in' for all my BBC apps but regardless of whether I select this or not, I'm still having to sign in again each time I open any of the apps. I don't know why it's logging me out on each occasion but it's irritating & seems completely unnecessary.
Great channel, great programmes, professionally made, which stream well. Unfortunately neither the android nor TV apps are up to scratch in terms of the ability to curate them to show the content the user wishes to watch. For example, I'd like to put my own Watchlist front and centre (instead of 'new and trending' content), not to be recommended to watch things I've already watched in the app, and to delete things from 'Continue watching' if I've decided I don't want to do so.
Ahh the idiots are back at the controls again. This and other BBC apps are running slow, taking forever to load their homepages and data, even thought we have a fast internet connection. Are we back to the old days when we had to have different MTUs for these apps vs everything else. Why only on the android version, the iPhone version works better. Speed it up.
Its ok, pretty good, except for a couple of things which bug me all the time.. The incessant "Contains strong language" etc content warning dialogue boxes you have to agree to to play so many programmes; I've already told you my age, you have my profile, why keep nannying me this way? It drives me nuts! The other is, there's no option to Play All Episodes. That seems such a simple thing to fix...
If I tap Explore, then View TV Guide, I get list of upcoming programmes. I can tap each item and get more detail, but only if it's available for viewing now. Here I am at 19:21 on Wed 21 May 2025; I see that on BBC4 at 20:00 there will be a programme with title beginning "Atlantic: The Wilde...". I can't see the whole title because it won't fit (in portrait), and I can't tap for more as it's not available yet. I have to turn on auto-rotate and turn the phone sideways to see full title. Annoying!
for some reason the devs have decided to put the wrong screen sizes in for the pixel 9pro, and now when I'm casting the controls are off the edges of the screen. Also, when I download something, please stay on the same season number to make it easier to download multiple episodes.
Now that EE & other viewers can no longer record BBC , can we * please* change the Sports part so that older content is shown first ( on a phone, on the left). What on earth is the point of Sports catch up service where you see the latest matches as soon as you search/go to a sport - absolutely no point in watching earlier rounds then !!!!
All my downloaded programmes have disappeared, expiry of the programme is not the issue as most had over a year left. It looks like it might be the new version of the app which automatically updated 2 days ago on my IPAD might be the problem. Sort out one bug fix to create more bugs. Not happy as I can not recall all the programmes I downloaded and it will take a long long time to redownload. Some series were part watched and I can not recall where I watched up to. I just heard back from the support team via email, due to their complete incompetence the latest app upgrade has indeed deleted all old downloads on devices. How to totally upset customers! Their response was for me to waste my time to download again. What a wonderful service provider! I am of course being totally sarcastic.
All you have to do is just create an account but it is fair because it has soo many programmes so you can watch everything and live things on CBBC and news on it :D. I am happy with this app because it is also like Netflix but better. You can watch movies. Though some of the movies are old :(. Overall, it is one of the best apps and I recommend you should download it Also, it updates all its channels so on Monday there might be only 1 episode of so awkward, then on the next few days (due to upload time and publishing) day there might be the 2nd episode while on Netflix there might only be 1 episode for a few years ;( Hope this helped whoever reads this :P (some of these reviews are fake and written by other companies so don’t let that fool you!) Ps. The account making is quite tough
Generally this app is ok . However the things that annoy me on a daily basis are: - difficult navigation of episodes , I was watching a 5 series long show and when I was trying to find the last episode played , it wasn’t showing up in a helpful place . There also wasn’t any markers to suggest where I left off. To make matters worse when scrolling through the list of episodes there was no easy series selection option and I had to scroll through the entire list of episodes. I think I watched some of an episode prior to the one I was in to manually determine where I was at. - sort of related to the first point ,’when using cast , the resume from the place in an episode where I left off doesn’t work . It always starts from The beginning and I have to skip through hoping I jump to the correct spot - nice to have feature , like other popular apps such as Netflix when you scroll through an episode and it shows you an updated thumbnail of the point in the episode to make finding a particular place would be nice
I want to watch a recent, but not the latest episode of Casualty, it being the episode that I want to watch. There used to be something within the app that noted which was the latest episode in a series that had been watched, and which automatically offered the the next in series. That particular and very helpful system is now no longer available. Why, as no matter what I do, the episode I want to see next, cannot be selected !!
So disapointed! Since I first reported the serious bug causing series episodes to become inaccessible years ago, things have got worse. Often just the latest is there. This happened on Sounds too but that seems to be improving. I used workaround but these no longer work. Only solution is to go to the website. (Huwaiwei m8 android JDN2-W09 with android 9 EMUI 9.1.) So sad to take another star off. The BBC is under seige but noone seems to care. Is this department being run by sabateurs?
Downloaded content won't play on my Android phone. It downloads fine but when I try to play, it says 'something has gone wrong'. So frustrating. I have the most up to date version.
Really poor app. Using a Huawei P30 Pro it should work fine but no it crashes every single time. Have you got any idea how irritating it is when your tired and in bed at night, just wanting to watch ONE programme, and it just crashes? Tried streaming and dowloading, got the same outcome, it still crashed.
The app needs an overhaul 1. Need to be able to change the order of sections. I would reorder the page so My added programme's are above half the shows/sections suggested. 2. Now BBC Sounds has 1.25, 1.5 and 2x speed add it on here. 3. Seems like the shows no one else wants are on here - Little Britain, Porridge and This Life is on here from decades ago yet Years and Years from 2019 isn't. Be nice for it to make sense, it's like a jumble sale!
Hiya, I believe this app is good with small things that could be changed giving it 5 stars - shows are never short on here, it gives you a wide and extensive range from cooking to gripping dramas. This app uses a medium amount of data, saving shows are easy and setting up an account is extremely simple. I love the fact that the app gives a two age bracket, adults and below 13... - this was just to give appropriate shows to said age group. Due to the company’s known structure I was okay with giving my information, although I am always weary. But as I am typing this I am remembering that hardly any information was needed which is a great bonus on so many levels. I hope this is heLpful!
Can the development team please put on the roadmap the ability to toggle audio description from the play screen? Currently, if I want to watch an audio described programme, I have to go into the audio describe section. If I’m lucky, the episode I want will be featured on the first page, otherwise I have to go into the A-Z and find the program i want. However, if it is a series, only the latest episode is shown with audio description. If I select a previous episode, the audio description doesn’t work. Also, if I’m watching an audio described episode from a series and the next episode launches automatically with auto play enabled, the next episode doesn’t play with audio description, even if the website shows that audio description is available. Also, at the moment you cannot currently download audio described programs. Confusing to read? It certainly is a confusing way to try and watch audio described programs.

The app needs an overhaul 1. Need to be able to change the order of sections. I would reorder the page so My added programme's are above half the shows/sections suggested. 2. Now BBC Sounds has 1.25, 1.5 and 2x speed add it on here. 3. Seems like the shows no one else wants are on here - Little Britain, Porridge and This Life is on here from decades ago yet Years and Years from 2019 isn't. Be nice for it to make sense, it's like a jumble sale!
I want to watch a recent, but not the latest episode of Casualty, it being the episode that I want to watch. There used to be something within the app that noted which was the latest episode in a series that had been watched, and which automatically offered the the next in series. That particular and very helpful system is now no longer available. Why, as no matter what I do, the episode I want to see next, cannot be selected !!
lags when you're looking for something, and freezes frequently throughout episodes and films.

For example, I'd like to put my own Watchlist front and centre (instead of 'new and trending' content), not to be recommended to watch things I've already watched in the app, and to delete things from 'Continue watching' if I've decided I don't want to do so.
lags when you're looking for something, and freezes frequently throughout episodes and films. Stupid that you have to pay to watch your stuff on your TV just for it to constantly not work. It also decides to play episodes in random orders which if they are filler, you won't notice until stuff doesn't add up. Imagine trying to watch a show, and it keeps freezing and crashing, then when you are more than halfway, you realise that you've been watching the next season on a random episode. terrible
The app needs an overhaul 1. Need to be able to change the order of sections. I would reorder the page so My added programme's are above half the shows/sections suggested. 2. Now BBC Sounds has 1.25, 1.5 and 2x speed add it on here. 3. Seems like the shows no one else wants are on here - Little Britain, Porridge and This Life is on here from decades ago yet Years and Years from 2019 isn't. Be nice for it to make sense, it's like a jumble sale!
