Simpler and more user-friendly than Anki for me. Consistent with the book's content and uncluttered.
It accompanies the textbook very nicely. Clear audio with the ability to slow down and speed up playback. I recommend it!
Great ap and accompaniment for the Genki course which I find as a beginner, amazing ! I find the app user friendly and very beneficial in assisting with my studies 🇯🇵👍
This app is very helpful for studying along with the text book, and I have my flash cards wherever I go. I use an iPhone 11 and haven’t had any issues with the sound so far.
Using this app on an iPhone 8 for supplemental studying for my 日本語 class. Cool idea if the sound worked. Update: found a reviewer that mentioned that your silence button has to be off for the sound to work. Now that the sound works, it’s a great app.
Just a note—Some of the reviews state the app (3rd addition) no longer has sentence examples, but it still does. You just have to click the caret (upward arrow) at the bottom of each study card to switch to the full sentence. The examples are shown in English & Japanese with Japanese audio for the whole sentence.
No bugs, quick and responsive to use and great audio files. Very good price, my time to put together this on Anki would have been much more valuable.
Works pretty well, hopefully they'll add the additional vocabulary too in the future.
I gave it a 4 because it took me forever to figure out how the audio worked. Make sure you are on Ringer Mode. If your phone is on silent the audio does not work. Other than that it helps with practicing basic Vocab.
My main gripes are that the UI is a little strange (but you get used to it), and it doesn't show stroke order. I think these 2 reasons, along with the price tag, are the main cause of its low rating. That being said, it has flashcards for every vocab, along with audio of the vocab itself and it being used in a sentence. ALL of the vocab (other than expressions) have artwork for it not seen in the book to help with memorization. The apps are also not only book 1, it covers all of book 2 as well.
Good app. All the words are in kanji with hiragana pronunciations so you already learn some kanji automatically. Super clean interface, very easy to use. Sadly there doesn't seem to be an automatic spaced repetition, you just either know the word or you don't. One thing that bothers me a little is that in the list view, some checkboxes are out of alignment. Doesnt really matter, but looks a bit wonky.
Would be 5 stars with the options to shuffle the cards in study mode. App does exactly as advertised otherwise.
While it does have it's short comings, this app has been an absolute lifesaver for me! It only covers the main vocabulary for each chapter, which means you are on your own when it comes to the supplementary vocab, but it allows you to do flashcards and quizzes to review and check your understanding of the vocab. The flashcards also have examples of the vocab used in sentences on the other side, which I found helpful for studying grammar. Price is a bit steep, but ultimately worth it IMO
Helpful but only if you are good with Hiragana already. At least give me the option of Romanji in the settings
I, having used the app for a while now has enjoyed using the app, however not going to lie it doesn't seem built to the standards it should be for something that costs money. This is because when I first entered the app, I was just greeted with exersices but the layout of it seemed like something made for a phone 10 years ago. However, if your finding an app that gets the job done really good, then I guess it's a good option.
Good app, but missing the icon when set to round icons, when they fix that, five stars!
Feels like the effort put into this is so minimal. Bought (!) this as a companion to studying with the actual book, but except aggregating all the vocabulary nicely it does very little to actually help you learn and memorize. There are so many other apps with repetitive learnings techniques. This one does very little to implement this.
Not worth the cash. Is only flash card and doesn't add extra vocab seen within the chapter also app has flaws. Can't see the hiragana over the speaker.
Expensive book that then charges for three different apps for book to be effective. I work in a university setting and this is the only text I know of that does this. Any other text includes the digital help. Dirty and sneaky money grabbing tactic for an already overpriced text book of its printing quality.
Initally bought on my galaxy s7, but would crash when trying to use study. Additionally, google would not give a refund despite their refund policy saying that broken or faulty apps are eligible for a refund (this is against Australian consumer law). Fast forward a few months, bought a galaxy tab a8 and the apps works fine on it. My poor experince lead me to finding the free and more extensive AnkiDroid app.
I can no longer switch between Japanese or English to study. there used to be buttons to let you switch and they were removed for some reason???? There seems to be an issue with things being cut off at the top now. was this version even tested? please revert.
It’s uber frustrating to pay for an app and have basically half of its function not even work. Especially when you’re trying to learn how to speak a language. :/ I need to not just see and read Japanese I need to hear it so I can practice. Also, the textbook has places I’m supposed to listen to audio from the app. Again. Not helpful. Just fix it please
The app crashes every time I hit "Study". I can use "Check" but study causes a hard crash on my Galaxy S7, until this gets fixed the app is essentially useless. Happy to update review if a fix comes along!
A blue speaker button covers the text in flashcards. This makes app unusable. Not found how to (re)move it.
Didn't have all the words from the book. I bought this app so I don't have to carry the big book around to study new words.
Additional vocabulary from the book not covered. No spaced repetition algorithm for flashcards
