This game Rocks. Easily my favorite. A couple things I would like to see: Markers for territory control. Also, a more organized look for the troops on a given territory. Some territories have opposing forces bleeding into enemy zones, overlap numbers, it's hard to read troop amounts when overlapping. Troop separation, in order to select a particular troop that is bunched together. The big movement arrows can be toned down too. Love this game.
I'm having issues with linking my computer account to my mobile. When I click login through steam nothing happens. Anyone have this issue? Only thing I can think of is that my Google play email and my steam email are different. (Edit: issue resolved 5 stars by Beamdog team. Keep up the good work I'm sure y'all are working hard.)
I've been waiting for this game to have an official mobile version for years, and it is outstanding! I've never had an issue finding a game. I do have a couple of suggestions if the devs read these: 1. There should be a way to add your opponent as a friend during and after a game. I want a rematch! 2. The AI uses the same strategy every game. Change it up! 3. When you get a victory/defeat notification for Online play, allow us to view the board after! I want to see how it ended.
A very good simulation of the board game, though the version I played as a kid (first edition) didn't have cruisers, destroyers, or artillery and did have research for new technologies. My only complaint is that the AI isn't challenging. It makes remarkably stupid moves. I seldom lose the game as the Allies- only when the Eastern front, Air War and Pacific war ALL have bad rolls. In other words, I lost about one time in thirty. I usually can win in 8-12 turns
I am so thankful to Beamdog for making this game a reality. The game is absolutely worth it to either diehard fans or new players. They have included elements like "learn how to play" and easy-to-access tool tips for any unit, zone, or just about every element of the game, which makes this a great introduction to anyone looking to learn the core game mechanics. There are single player modes as well as online play, anyone looking to have an amazing turn-based strategy experience, START HERE!
Love the board games, this is a decent simulation to get a fix in a more time conscious way. The good: easy to find games, fairly intuitive to play, simple art style and faithful recreation of the game for the most part, also - no microtransactions or P2W elements. The bad: prone to the occasional crash but nowhere near as bad as some reviews make out, dice against AI are clearly loaded, AI isn't very intelligent, game is resource and battery hungry.
Zooming in and out and moving around the map isn't the best but I still love this game and almost prefer it over the actual board game because it is so easy to track where your army is and who is going into battles. The combat mode is very nice but the graphics on the icons could be improved. Overall it's a very good game and I recommend getting it if you already have some experience with the board game.
Zooming in and moving around are a little bit clunky, but overall if you give the game a shot for one or two games, you start to get the hang of it. The menus for referencing what units do what and all that are very useful. I wish the "follow player" feature was more instructive of what is happening, and there is no automatic review of what each player does before you on each turn. That would be nice for a game like this.
the gameplay is impressive. they've captured the board game experience pretty well. despite cramming the UI to a mobile screen, they managed to make it playable and fairly streamlined given the complexity. only big issues for me are 1. The inability to manually pick losses when defending in a singleplayer game 2. Broken text boxes making me unable to delete old games or input anything in the app. (less important than you'd think) it'd be nice to have a 1st edition A&A mode
I'm glad this game is finally here, but I wish it were better. The visuals are nice but following the computer movements are aweful. Also, there should be a system in single player offline mode for adjusting unit costs, starting units, industrial placement, maybe even country alignment. Also, I remember a version a while ago that had the option of playing with rules allowing kamikaze movement of bombers and fighters, and loading paratroopers onto bombers. This might be a nice option for offline
Would give 5 stars, except the visual depiction of unit movement is awful. Just turn off the arrows/lines already. When moving pieces we just need to see how many units are still in the starting and ending zones- but we can't see that. When you're moving lots of units (like round 1 Germany) you need an eidetic memory to know how many units of each type are going to be where. Fix that, and your game is perfect. Maybe play the old 90s CD windows game and see how they did it for inspiration.
It's got some growing up to do. Blitzkrieg actions are not intuitive and can frustrate a player. If you want to simulate the game at very fast speeds you will not be able to monitor progress on the main map because a useless subscreen (turn order) is right in the way. That information could go anywhere else but taking up the entire screen. That said I do like this app though.
Having trouble trying to type anything in a pop-up box. Every time I try i click the box and start to type and my keyboard disappears. There are multiple instances of this where, for example if you want to resign a game. . Pinch zoom is still jumpy and sometimes the game doesn't move troops that I thought I had moved. Being that troop movement is a major part of the game, they need to refine this and make it easier but more positive.
The game works, but crashes a lot. Also, the pinch zoom is way too fast on my phone, and way too slow on my tablet. Scrolling the map works as expected (1 to 1 with finger movement), but zooming is just wonky. The UI could use some improvements as well. The game is played in landscape format, so having the territory tray open up at the bottom, as opposed to the side, covers up a lot of the map you might actually want to use. Some of the unit placement in territories is a little weird too.
Great game service is a zero or worse. Cant sign up or login to beamdog customer support to even report a bug. Some functionality issues like no preview move, to see you never moved a unit or moved a wrong unit on a clustered board. So many arrows can be blinding. Id give the game a 5 still as I love it and I think they've done a good job. But I can't play it's online function... and have no clue why and can't even report it.
Could be a really great app, but if the developers are reading there's a couple of things that should be fixed/improved 1. Add a local save state/ undo button for local/ai play. The controls are sometimes confusing, so having an undo or at least the option to load an old save would be great. 2. Stability needs work, it crashes a lot. 3. DLC/ expansions. I will pay lots for a 1940 global version, help me give you my money! 4. For your next titles, make Ikusa and diplomacy next!
Constant crashes. Announcement from 2022 stated a patch. Almost 2 years later (depending on month) and has crashed everytime but once. How 'bout that patch? Besides that I would give it almost 4 stars. Can't report a problem because my email (which was used to purchase the game) is insufficient to allow me to progress through the report process? Great game. Unfortunately the follow through with the patch/crashing/reporting an issue leaves much to be desired.
I love, love, love Axis & Allies. I love the opportunity to play others who love it. But that's the board game. This app is so bad it crashes and hangs more than any device game I've ever played (about 1 in 3 games I load hangs requiring a complete app restart). Feels like a beta release. It also burns through my battery like a SOB. The menu structure sux (to play multiple online games you have to go up and down 5 steps). Let's hope the developers iron out the bugs. But I doubt they will.
I hate to harsh on this one since I have so many good memories of wasting hours on the tabletop game. But the broken dice/combat system ruins the fun. A&A always involves some surprises, but no one rolls that many 1's every battle of every round. I don't recommend buying. Edit July 2025: Still broken.
Terrible design. DO NOT BUY! "Random" dice generator is a joke. You can basically subtract a 1 from the Ally's dice roll. I stuck it out for 3 hrs of battles, and I would say an Ally's power of 3 is the equivalent 2 compared to the Axis. It's super slow, too. 3 hrs was 2 games. Playing USSR & USA. I have never uninstalled a game I paid for, but this one is so awful it's gone after this review.
