#1 Balances/payments are not even close to the paper app! And worse, it shows minimum payment due $0 all the time. I got my paper statement late and it had a minimum payment AND late fee! #2 I'm getting push notifications for some things but not all. Primarily that a payment is due! It seems a sneaky way to charge late payments😡 AmEx don't tell me to contact someone. I did and they were as confused as I am!

The app itself works great. However, I'm leaning more and more towards it being rigged to encourage late payment and up the interest. Notifications absolutely suck. Would you like it to remind you of a payment date? You can have it notify at 3 day till all the way up to 10 days till due date. Not the day before. Not the day of. You can't even get notification for more than one option. If you accidently dismiss it, that's it. Hope you saw it. IF IT COMES AT ALL. Trash. Don't use amex.

The app is just not good. Logging in is a nightmare. Repeatedly asks for 15 digit card number to view your balance. Easier to just sign in on the website. No ability to send or receive money with Zelle. Takes far too long to transfer or add money. Lackluster in look, feel & function. I like Amex the company but the banking leaves MUCH to be desired.

App repeatedly spams the same notification over and over again about an upcoming payment that's not due, and it already set up for auto-pay so they will process it themselves without my needing to do anything. I have to regular dismiss three, four, five, or more duplicate copies of the same notification saying I have an automatic payment that will post soon. Contacted them, and they claimed that they are required for "compliance" to spam this notification many times over...

Support agent outright LIED to me. I tried to get help figuring out how to check the balance of an additional member I added, and he told me I could not check it through the app. Phone support also told me before I couldn't change the spending limit without calling in. Before the conversation ended, I found where to do both and when I pointed out you could see the balance from Total Balance > ... > Add/Manage Card Members and asked him why he told me I couldn't see the balance, he disconnected!

Keeping track of offers is impossible with the app, you have to go to the website. I only use this card for retail purchases if there is an offer good enough to take less points. But since you have to add the offers they show you to see the next set of offers you'll end up with 200-300 offers active. Then when you check active offers it only shows 100 of them, even though it clearly says you have many more active. Also, there is no search function. You have to go to the website and control-f.

Pointless app for what I initially opened it for. Don't have the "Send" cash option. I'm constantly having to login everytime I'm switching from one link to the other. Biometrics login is hit or miss. Tells me to enable it to use it... well, it's enabled. What more do you want me to do. I click on a link, "technical difficulties. Try again later". Please fix all the issues on the Android app.

The most recent update turned a good app into garbage. The select to pay was the best part. Now you pay on a specific charge and it doesn't register as paid half the time. Also doesn't allow multiple payments in a day any more. Seriously? You're making it harder to manage payments easily? Ugh. I'm now much less likely to use this card before my others. Nothing sets this apart now, AND your interest rates are higher than most. Terrible user experience, people.

The "pay other amount" feature has broken UX. If you enter an amount other than Total Balance, the radio button then defaults to Total Balance anyway. The amount being paid isn't on the following screen, so there's no way to see that the wrong amount was selected, and no way to cancel a payment after it's gone through. On 2 separate occasions I mistakenly paid more than I was expecting to and could've overdrawn my checking account. I haven't had issues with any other card. Really bad.

The current balance is not included below each transaction, making it extremely difficult to track how much you've charged. Other apps I've used such as Bank of America keep a running total balance next to each transaction, so if you like to pay off your total balance, then you can see what pending charges aren't being included in that payment. Without that transparency, it is incredibly frustrating to pay off total balance and have that balance spike back up when the pending charges post.

Used to be great. I used to be able to easily see my available balance, credit limit, etc. After a recent update, items were removed from the main page. Also, the new "one-time passcode"every single time you log in, is a hassle & useless. E.g., if someone had my phone & able to log into my app, they would easily be able to retrieve a text passcode. There's no way to disable it. Remember device doesn't work. At least give me the option! I'll update my review if it goes back to the way it was.

When you're actually signed in, everything works fine. Information displays easy enough, the UI is mostly easy to navigate and pleasing to use, and it's easy to make payments. But I really wish the biometrics issue would be fixed. It never lets me sign in with fingerprint, and always requires a password. It's been happening for a long time and can be annoying.

Update 4/23/2025...I changed over to biometrics because I got tired of having to type in my password every time, but it automatically turns off biometrics every 3rd time I log in. useless ! update 3/24/2025...still completely useless! Latest update is horrible. Now, the app saves my username and it's grayed out so I can't change it. It no longer allows me to autofill my password. No choice but to type in my whole password every time.

The app is OK I guess, but lately it has been getting worse. It says my password is incorrect when I know 100% that it isn't. Then after I reset it, after browsing through the app for a bit, it suddenly kicks me off and says you've been logged out because of no activity, as I'm literally using the app and being active. Fix your app please.

The application itself is pretty good but they've broken it in the latest release were it requires two-factor authentication on every single login, no matter whether you've logged in before, using biometrics, it's just broken. please fix it because it makes me not want to ever use the app and I was a heavy app user.

If booking travel on a mobile device, you're out of luck. You have to use this app to book travel on mobile, and the travel booking section is completely broken. When you open the travel section, the main app sits idle in the background and logs you out in 5 minutes. So you only get 5 minutes to book travel. I'm convinced it's to force you to rush through so you wind up spending more money than necessary. I can't STAND being rushed. This needs to be fixed YESTERDAY.

Getting into my account was the biggest pain. When you apply for the card, and get the confirmation, it says to set this up. g Guess what!!! you can't without the card. so you get locked out and go through the hell of finding 10 different passwords to reset it because it doesn't say that you need to go through the entire thing and THEN get a representative. otherwise you think thee password is reset, but it's not. For such a huge company, get your stuff together!

Be careful. Interest can be charged even after you pay the bill along with late fees. I was a couple days late but interest on after...The app does NOT notify you. Customer for a long, never had an issue and they would help me out on a fee after asking for the first time for some help. App is good but Amex customer service does NOT help in the way they should. Most places give you one time help when its due to ignorance or just being unknowledgeable of all their lingo and "Terms and Conditions."

Not an intuitive app. Bad personal experience. besides, the app being all jumbled up and sending to other sites, the acct itself was not worth it. 16 other card @under 20% int but here @29%. In 2024 had major expenses raising credit usage. They lowered my limit from 6500 to 1000 which caused my score to drop. History w/them is perfect yet this occurred. Mostly paid full balance monthly. I terminated the account. Not worth having.

I was super excited to get an Amex card. Until I applied for one for me and my wife. After applying I was called by a gentleman asking for additional info for my wife. He then told me that we were BOTH approved and should get our cards in the mail shortly. Never got the cards so I called and was told that I was going to have to redo the entire process and also they had no record of me applying for an additional card for my wife. So after redoing the entire process and being told my new card would be in the mail soon it also never came. So I called a couple weeks later and finally got things sorted out with my card (not my wife’s that was a lost cause at this point) and it came in the mail about a week later. After everything it took about 3 months from being approved to getting my card. It just seems like they have a terrible process going on. Anytime I called for help it seemed like they told me what I wanted to hear but nothing was actually done. Now I have applied for another card for my wife 2 weeks ago and again have heard or seen nothing. Also called about my priority pass expiring and the gentleman told me he resolved it and I should be getting a confirmation email. That was 4 days ago and still haven’t gotten one. Being active duty military it’s nice that they over the platinum card for free but at this point I’d rather go back and pay another bank for a card with similar benefits.

There was a fraud on my account that I CLOSED in 2018. Someone charge $12 in march 2021. Since I did not get any notification, It was unpaid then it destroy my credit record. My FiCO score drop 100+ point. Amex claimed that issue is fixed. 2 of the credit agency is clear now but they did not update Experian. I call multiple times and did not get help properly. This should not happen at all with closed account. While I am trying to fix my credits. Another fraud happen again on same closed account. another small charge on July 2021. Please note Amex claimed that it is fixed account is closed. At this moment. my experian credit report is not fixed since amex did not report the previous fraud and I am still dealing with new fraud now. Amex reps are not helping. Phones are terminated for no reason. By the way I am Amex customer over 38 year and always good record. Never had late payment on anything. Amex is letting fraud on closed account and not fixing properly, destroying credit records are not acceptable.

A few things I could mention that could bring this app to 5 stars - I would integrate apples current FaceID update to allow for pin entry when it detects a mask. Currently, the app will simply say that “faceID is not detected” it’s something small that can make a huge difference because I’d rather not take off my mask in stores when I want to get into my app, and I’m sure I speak for many people when I say entering and remembering passwords are tedious. Additionally, I would update your app to allow for dispute submissions, status and resolution directly on the app instead of having to clog up your chat. It’s available on your website, just port it over to the app. Finally, I would put something to allow for better reward tracking and pending rewards on the app itself instead of having to go on your website. Additionally, I know this is probably more a hit on Delta and not American Express, but you do have a partnership with their Credit Cards so, have better communication with them and their/your cards. It gets annoying when I have to flip flop between apps and websites to see and track my rewards. Finally you could have a kind of Minimum balance calculator for the Pay it Plan it. Sometimes I’m scared to use Plan it because Im scared my next months minimum due will go from 35 to 350. ...which is fine, id just appreciate the heads up when/if it happens.

Recently I had a dispute with Capital One my main credit card company when I wanted to pay off my statement balance. I had called them and made payment of the amount they gave me but then received in the mail a bill for some ridiculously small amount that I thought surely was in error so I called but surprisingly they argued and said that I indeed owed the amount and that I must have misunderstood. I’m pretty sure I had not since it was I who called them with the intent of paying off the statement amount. So it was then that I decided if $0.72 was that important to them I was going to vote with my $ and discontinue Capital One. That day I paid them, canceled my account, and cut up my card. However that meant I then needed another primary credit card. I have been an Amex member for a long time but worried that the old style way Amex used to do thing’s might not be as flexible as I needed but decided to give it a go. I can’t tell you how happy I am that I made that decision! Amex has made some amazing changes the last few years and the app is just awesome. The plan- it feature for payment is simply brilliant! I just wanted to let you know that I am so happy I decided to go back to Amex and I’m confident I won’t have to worry about having to move to another credit company again !! Thank you so much!

So technology should make our lives easier, but American express has found a way to make it worse. I redeemed points for gift cards through the app, but trying to use them is just utterly ridiculous. First, you can’t even get to the cards without providing information that is on your AMEX card itself. So even though you have securely logged in to the app, you still have to do more. So if you’re not carrying your AMEX card with you, you can’t use the gift card. Navigating to the cards takes forever. I’m sure everyone is familiar with the phrase “it isn’t rocket science.” But apparently this is! Whether used or not the cards stay in my view, so I have no idea which ones I have used. And to determine the balance, American Express sends you to the vendor’s website, which is not at all helpful. That site asks you for the gift card number and PIN, so you have to go back to the American Express app, write these numbers down, then go back to the vendor site again. Now think of doing all of this while you’re standing at the checkout line at Home Depot with people waiting in line behind you for you to get this done! And forget trying to resolve this in the app through chat. Chat is just another word for we’re not going to listen to you but instead will send you links to FAQ sites. This has got to be one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had with an app and the corresponding credit card company.

The application itself is pretty good but they've broken it in the latest release were it requires two-factor authentication on every single login, no matter whether you've logged in before, using biometrics, it's just broken. please fix it because it makes me not want to ever use the app and I was a heavy app user.

So technology should make our lives easier, but American express has found a way to make it worse. I redeemed points for gift cards through the app, but trying to use them is just utterly ridiculous. And to determine the balance, American Express sends you to the vendor’s website, which is not at all helpful. That site asks you for the gift card number and PIN, so you have to go back to the American Express app, write these numbers down, then go back to the vendor site again.
