Upward: Christian Dating App

I absolutely can't stand that I've gotten less than 10 results that were actually near me, with the rest being 150+ miles away every single time despite the radius being set to the lowest. I can't do this for much longer at all and I'm pretty sure I'm just going to drop the app for good. Also I'm not paying. I shouldn't have to fight to see my matches after a week straight of swiping.

Don't get this app unless you want a long distance relationship. I didn't match with a single person in my general area. I even paid for a one month subscription. I set my distance to 60 miles and it was only showing me people 175 miles away or more! At one point it even suggested someone 1000 miles away from me. It is also really annoying that I didn't get any likes unless I paid for a boost. Overall this app was terrible and I would not recommend it.

The app is alright, it provides a lot of preferences which is nice. but as of recently, the distance calculating is terrible. the max distance is 60 miles and I wouldn't want it any further, I'm looking for a local relationship. but every single one is like 200 miles away! the filter is not working! will change review rating once fixed

Update: They have a new way of tricking people to spend money (or spend time swiping on the app for no reason, if you have Premium) -- You'll receive a "like" from someone in the "social" side (as if anyone asked to add this to the app and be matched with other dudes for hanging out or something). So if you never visit the "social" swiping, you'd always wonder who it is you can't match with. Not like they show you people who liked you anyway, even if they're within your parameters. Super scammy.

I would not recommend the app to anybody. well, anybody that is looking to ACTUALLY meet somebody!! it seems like about 90% of the people I see on the app or at least over a hundred miles away. In addition, it will still feed you people that you are ready did not find a match with. I've seen the same people in my feed up to 10 times.

I downloaded the app set up my profile. looked at the payment options. two different pay walls. Still waiting to get verified after a week. Now my app is not showing ages and distance that they are away from me. I still haven't paid anything because I am waiting to see if those problems get fixed. I contacted support and got a response back saying to make sure my app has permission to my location. it was working just fine for two days and now its not. This has been my experience.

This app is truly not worth it. The matches or whatever are all the same profiles repeating. If you click on one to look at the pictures and profile and go back, you have to scroll all over again. I started on my first day with 486 likes and every time, it was the same, after I get past 100 profiles who are all 400 miles away or absolutely the opposite of my type (this is not an app where you can filter other than age ), I have to scroll the 100 to get back to where I left off. It says no ads

App won't even open. Created an account last night via email, and subsequent profile. This morning, app just freezes when attempting to open on S24. Every so often, I'll get the "Log In with Email" button, but that still won't sign in after inputting my information. For the love of all that is holy, fix this app. 1 day! Just 1 day, and it doesn't work. SMH.

This app is HORRIBLE. You set your preferences and your distances and it shows you people from well over 100 miles + outside of your range. Pointless and a total waste of money. Ohhhhh.....and there's no where on my android for me to cancel my subscription. I contacted customer care the day before asking them to cancel my subscription but they did not and now I'm being charged for it again. Can't even log in through a web browser. Once they have your credit card #, they've got you.

This app is nothing more than a money grab! It's more expensive than most dating apps. I thought I'd try it for a month and it completely ignores my filters. And wants more money to be "platinum" to see who I want to see!?! Isn't that the entire point of having filters? I have my filter set for a certain age range and a certain distance and I keep getting selections that are hundreds of miles away unless I pay more? I do not recommend this app. Save your money; try a different dating app.

Another pay-to(not)-win Tinder copycat app. After about an hour, it kept showing me people 150+ miles away, even though my preferences were set to 50 miles, or less. Likes also don't go away once you've swiped left on someone who has liked you. Maybe these issues go away if you pay for an upgraded subscription, but that's hardly worth the price of admission for me. I'll go somewhere else.. ✌️

this is one of the worse app beside Match. I have blocked the same person a minimum of 10 times, and each day, that is the first person I see as a match. EVERYDAY!!! I tried blocks. i have tried swiping left, and this person is always the first person I see every day when I open the app. The number of ads is crazy as well as the distance function doesn't work. your preference doesn't matter because they are going to show you whoever they want no matter what you select.

Upward is a great app. Something annoying is that they recently updated "non-denominational" to "non-confessional" which makes zero sense unless maybe you're a Catholic. Please change it back. Protestants don't use this lingo and it doesn't translate well. Also, they changed the looking for "marriage" to "marriage and family". This should be changed or split into two options because some people are looking for marriage without having kids or without having more kids. That's not me, but still

6/26 Update: Changed from three stars to one star. I paid for a week subscription, and just a couple hours later, they locked my account with no explanation. I can't sign in now. I emailed their support 3 days ago and still haven't gotten a response. I've used this app on and off for the past couple of years. It doesn't seem like they made any improvements. Their distance filters don't work, and it seems the only people who will try to match with you are 100 miles away.

huge problems!! I've paid for the 3 month subscription and 2 days later i still don't have access to likes or messages... I know I signed up because they charged my card! everytime I try to email support i get rerouted back to my settings menu.. there is apparently no easy way to contact them over this issue which is a huge disappointment! got a notification from play store saying to log into the upward app within 3 days or my subscription will automatically be cancelled.. good grief!! 🙄

Avoid this one. It had good word of mouth from friends, but I ignored other reviews at my own risk and had the same experience with the paid tiers. Payments and refunds don't process, the app will only partially load sometimes, and customer support is painfully slow and heavily scripted; so far, the response time takes about 1-2 days. I can't see how communication is supposed to happen without being able to see or talk to those who liked/ messaged you. It had potential, but needs lots of work.

Ads, ads & more ads, even if you have a paid subscription, you will be interrupted with ads. To add to the offense, the ads are for non-Christian dating or hook up sites. The app is buggy, and there is no back button in case you accidentally swiped yes on a profile. The app also doesn't respect your age or distance parameters. They consistently show profiles many years younger than I'm interested in & up to 800+ miles away & also profiles from distant countries.

This app is confusing and I'm very upset. I have paid $59.99 and I still can't talk to people in my inbox. why are the pricings separate in three different phases getting more and more money. why don't you just have one price and allow access to the total site. I'm thinking about getting my money back. first I paid $19.99 that didn't allow access then I paid 39.99. I still don't have access unless I pay another $59. I don't like that at all. no customer service to address this issue.

Age and distance constantly reset. You have to pay to see if messages are read. Always wanting you to pay for something. I had a profile like me, we matched but suddenly my message did not got responded to. I believe that person was no longer active on the app. It's giving scam to me. I saw a profile that stated when their membership ended...but it was still showing up as an active option. Once membership ends profile should become inactive!

Scammy App vibes, not a lot of communication. The sliding features for distance do not work. It's totally a bunch of fake profiles, and you are not able to see your likes. You have to pay to message, when you do, you can not view that. The filter options do not work at all. It was 30$ for the elite, and it changed nothing about the functions of the app. The boosts do not work. Very Scammy, dnt recommended.

Hey, so this is a pretty good app actually. It makes people stand out to me. Like they put in depth bios and knowledge or make their character stand out. The problem isn’t the people, it’s the like/match system. No, I can be wrong since this is my first time trying to use a dating app but, why does it cost a subscription to try to match with people that like you? Why are we forced to pay for the main component of the whole point of the dating; talking to a potential match? Like I understand if it’s for scam checks or stuff like that but that seems pretty weird to me or too much as I say. And like, I can’t even see who my matches are and I got to pay for that too with the matching system. So I’m not too sure if this could but I’m going to say this and maybe hopefully it can change. Instead of not seeing our matches, we instead can see them, we get to talk/text for an hour and then when the time is up, we can either keep talking/texting or just move on with our lives. But if we don’t get along or be compatible with each other, we can say no and move on early. But if it’s vice versa, then we can do that. But as I have stated, this is my only problem with the app is just the matching system and likes. But if that isn’t possible then oh well, I tried at least. This app used to be the best but now it can barely go 10 seconds without crashing and forcing me to log in over and over again. It also just crashed so hard that it's dropping matches so that's fun. Redownloading it doesn't help either. I'll change my rating when the problem is fixed.

Parts of the app are just difficult to use — for example, the swipe up for images isn't smooth. Once I was sending a message to someone and she disappeared right out of my inbox — my best guess is that I accidentally hit unmatch. (I'm not someone who has difficulty with any other mobile apps!) They have an undo feature — but it's behind the paywall! Also, it's too bad you can't see who liked you without paying, like you can in Hinge, unless you happen to click like on each other's profiles.

I think it's okay, but it's definitely a work in progress. As a Christian app using AF in reference to something on their app feels really odd to me. It felt like they were going for a similar look as tinder at first too which is bleh to me. Editing my profile is hard because it messes up the picture frame and sometimes I it doesn't change edits to the bio, but otherwise it's usable and changing for the better as I can tell.

Low quality dating site. The free version was so bad did not want to pay money to see if it has better options. You can not narrow down preferences easy. App just needs a lot of work before I try it again. Plus way to expensive for paid features. If it was around $5 per month I would give it a shot but $30 for the same looking platform as 1000 others is not worth the try. God bless

Like the idea but it cost to do almost everything. And it's far to expensive. I have been on non-faith based apps and you get way more options for free there is no option to just chat with someone you find interesting or to view profiles local to you. If you have to make it so expensive at least offer a 30day trail or something to incentivize paying for a membership.

I downloaded this app, matched with a few guys, and dated a guy I met on here for a month! Even though it didn’t end up working out, I was really impressed to meet such a godly man on a dating app!! As with any dating app, be cautious with profiles and meeting up (let other people know where you are even if you’re a hermit and don’t tell people where you’re usually going like me

I’ll be honest I have not had a great on this app, some of it is my own stuff, but the app notification have been driving me nuts. I personally don’t have a ton of apps I let give me notifications anymore, but I let this one because I want to be able to get notifications for messages. I don’t have any social media so this app is the only way to communicate unless we exchange phone numbers, which I don’t always feel comfortable. I know other people don’t right away either. I get a notification to start swiping seemingly every few hours. I understand that this is how these apps work, but it’s a little annoying. I decided to pay for 3 months of premium so I could see who the likes are coming from. It seems to me like they push your profile to get a bunch of likes prior to paying for premium or whatever to see who it is. As soon as I payed for the app the likes went down to one every week or so. I might not be the kind of person that gets a lot of likes anyways but it was weird it went from 8 in the first week, then down to maybe 1 a week after I payed. The thing that drives me the most nuts is what I can only call the phantom like. It’s only happened 2 or 3 times since I started using the app. The app notifies me I got a like, but when I go to the app to check out the profile there isn’t a like. It’s great way to get me to open the app, but whatever. Idk, if it’s a glitch or what, but seems kinda fishy to me. Hey there! Okay as a woman using this app I guess there are some positives and negatives. I tried this app for exactly 2 days and at first it was fun and exciting seeing the likes and watching them add up but I guess it depends on what kind of person you are. I’m the type where if I already know someone likes me I’m more willing to invest time into that, but I couldn’t see anyone who liked me and that became frustrating after the first couple days when you have like 100+ likes but barely any matches. Lol. It’s not even that I swipe left on someone because they are unattractive but you just don’t know who would be into you and I guess that’s something they could consider fixing. I also agree with another reviewer in that when you do get matches, many people ghost after…due to browsing and “shopping” to see more matches. In this way I feel as though it’s a bit tricky to truly find someone who isn’t consistently browsing for more matches. Or the person is just not taking it seriously. It’s like it becomes a habit that many can’t stop and no true matches follow through to go on into anything deeper beyond “How are you?” I do believe there are some real people on there looking for something but personally it’s too hard to find them and I would rather let God do his work without me trying to force it. I love this app. It’s like a Christian version of Tinder. Mostly everyone here are looking for relationships & have a end game for marriage. The women seem really faith driven and traditional which I like, I haven’t gotten any matches yet because it’s my first day. But already liking the bios, and vibe from a lot of women on here. I have even seen girls that are from Tinder on here, but their bios are more in debt and they actually write something and explain what they are looking for as if maybe Tinder they just made it in hopes of finding something special other than guys who just wanted one night stands. Here those same girls are a lot more open. Unfortunately their aren’t many Christian women left in our society so there not a lot to choose from in most local areas your range runs out pretty quick. So if your ok with making a connection and feeling like it’s worth to travel to make such a great connection to meet someone if you have too. It’s not that bad of an app. I live in Arizona and it’s a party town would love to see a travel mode to see some women back in my hometown since I travel their often as well. Other than that great app for anyone who wants God at the center of their relationship. Can’t watch to see it grow. They should most definitely be promoting this in the church communities.
