It's not the worst app I've ever used but it's ok for most stuff. The improvement they could make for more secure banking, is to send you a text or message whenever there is movement on your account, eg d hoc transactions like in shops etc. Not necessarily debit orders etc. Other banks do this and I really miss this live key info. Then you could spot a suspicious transaction immediately. I hope this happens soon, or I will probably move.
Couldn't log in because the verification code was sent to the wrong phone number, and I'm unable to correct it because it's impossible to specify a non-UK number via their online banking site (also non-UK addresses or addresses with áccéntéd characters cannot be entered there either). Customer service is limited to UK business hours and waiting times to speak to someone on the phone are very long.
App is quite basic, allowing you to do simple banking, but you have to log onto the desktop to get more features. And recently, whenever I try to view my visa account, it just crashes and closes the app. I can view my other accounts fine, just not my visa. Very frustrating

Everytime I try to look at my members Credit Card statement, it shuts down when I scroll down. Works ok, online version. reported, but nothing happened. Co-op don't have the slickest app and IT dept!
Fed up with waiting for the app to start, it's up to 2 minutes sometimes but on average 1 minute to try and log in to see a balance. it's not convenient if you're in the shops, heck if you need it urgently. Lots of banking apps even show notifications when money is received, not this app. Get with the times and update it. I'm considering moving because I get better service elsewhere.
THE WORST banking app out there. One third of the time the mobile app is 'temporarily unavailable' which happens several times per week, one third of the time it simply doesn't get past the initial loading screen and let you login. It's missing basic functions that other banking apps have, such as viewing or editing recurring payments like direct debits and standing orders. Co-op Bank made £70m+ profit in 2024, why not use some of that to create a functional service for its customers?
App is unreliable, I normally have to close it and reopen it just to get it to log in. it's also very minimal features compared to other banks, I have accounts with other banks and it's missing so many things like savings pots, rounding transactions, labelling transactions to get insights into your spending, amending standing orders and direct debits. honestly the only reason I'm with co-op bank at this point is the ethics point because otherwise they're so far behind competitors it hurts
Update: Seems to be fixed, AFAIK it seemed a file in my "download" folder was triggering the warning. The file was a utility for investigating the system but was passed by Google & not even installed! Removed the file & this app worked again... Orig: App constantly tells me I've rooted my phone. I haven't. App refuses to run, even after rebooting, turning off developer options etc. Play Protect finds nothing wrong. I'm seriously considering moving to a bank with a decent online site / app.

Today app has just started crashing when trying to view Visa account. Opened Visa account fine yesterday! Doesn't crash when opening current account. App is up to date. Puzzling. Update: Got your response Sammie & tried to log in to online banking but can't on any browser either on pc or Chromebook. I get as far as waiting for a verification code on my phone but nothing arrives!!! Totally frustrated now. Only option left to phone bank tomorrow!
I've just moved to the co-op and as much as I like how much more ethical they are compared to my past bank I wish I'd been able to use the app beforehand as it just doesn't have the same functionality. Please add an option to have a notification for every transaction, I've gone through all the settings and have turned on notifications but it's not for transactions?? isn't this the most basic function of the app? It also claims I can open a savings account from the app but it just errors.
Just installed latest update. Finally this one seems to instantly load up saved payees, rather than freeze for 20s. Thank you, makes it much easier and faster and less frustrating. It would help if after making a payment, it would offer a choice of further payments or going back to accounts, instead of always referring back to accounts.
Edit: Months later and it's still buggy - now won't let me log in at all. Absolutely terrible. How do they keep making it worse?! Takes an age to load. Keyboard covers the fields you're typing into so you can't see what you're doing. Can't nickname accounts so it's tricky remembering which is which. Credit card payments aren't deducted from the total so you don't see an accurate picture. It used to be ok but it just keeps getting worse.

Edit post reply: that is not the same as having access to them via the app like every other banking app I've used. I know I can request them, that's wholly different however. I'm talking about readily being able to browse and download any at will without the need for support interaction. There's also no upcoming payment section for direct debits like most have.
Often fails to open, getting stuck on establishing secure convection normally when I really need to get my debit card details or move my money. Very frustrating experience, and as soon as the £25 is paid to me this month, I'll be moving all my money out into another more reliable bank. The app also lacks many features offered by other banks.
As of mandatory update on 22/2/24, the app no longer opens. Uninstalling, restarting phone, reinstalling app makes no difference. Up until now, I seem to have been fortunate that the app has worked mostly trouble-free. Admittedly it's not got as many features as some of the newer banks' apps. Coupled with no longer being able to make international payments online, without having to endure a 30 minute scripted conversation with a customer service operative, I'm starting to reconsider ethical bnk

It would help if after making a payment, it would offer a choice of further payments or going back to accounts, instead of always referring back to accounts.
It's not the worst app I've ever used but it's ok for most stuff. The improvement they could make for more secure banking, is to send you a text or message whenever there is movement on your account, eg d hoc transactions like in shops etc. Not necessarily debit orders etc. Other banks do this and I really miss this live key info. Then you could spot a suspicious transaction immediately. I hope this happens soon, or I will probably move.
The app usually works well, although I've heard other banking apps have more features, like those for sorting types of bills and payments. I've just encountered a fault with it: I opened a new savings account, but could not pay into it from my current account, or transfer money out of it (at all). I could do those things in the web version. This was corrected by uninstalling and then reinstalling it.
Update: Seems to be fixed, AFAIK it seemed a file in my "download" folder was triggering the warning. The file was a utility for investigating the system but was passed by Google & not even installed! Removed the file & this app worked again... Orig: App constantly tells me I've rooted my phone. I haven't. App refuses to run, even after rebooting, turning off developer options etc. Play Protect finds nothing wrong. I'm seriously considering moving to a bank with a decent online site / app.

the app has some issues, I cannot access the credit card section of the app to make any payments or even view it before it throws me out. takes an age to actually log in at all. my partners banking app has far more features and he can manage payments and direct debits within the app with ease. where as I have to log on to online banking. please bring this app up to date with other banking apps. I have banked with the coop for many years and have no problem with the bank itself.

Edit post reply: that is not the same as having access to them via the app like every other banking app I've used. I know I can request them, that's wholly different however. I'm talking about readily being able to browse and download any at will without the need for support interaction. There's also no upcoming payment section for direct debits like most have.
App is quite basic, allowing you to do simple banking, but you have to log onto the desktop to get more features. And recently, whenever I try to view my visa account, it just crashes and closes the app. I can view my other accounts fine, just not my visa. Very frustrating
Fed up with waiting for the app to start, it's up to 2 minutes sometimes but on average 1 minute to try and log in to see a balance. it's not convenient if you're in the shops, heck if you need it urgently. Lots of banking apps even show notifications when money is received, not this app. Get with the times and update it. I'm considering moving because I get better service elsewhere.
App is unreliable, I normally have to close it and reopen it just to get it to log in. it's also very minimal features compared to other banks, I have accounts with other banks and it's missing so many things like savings pots, rounding transactions, labelling transactions to get insights into your spending, amending standing orders and direct debits. honestly the only reason I'm with co-op bank at this point is the ethics point because otherwise they're so far behind competitors it hurts
Today app has just started crashing when trying to view Visa account. Opened Visa account fine yesterday! Doesn't crash when opening current account. App is up to date. Puzzling. Update: Got your response Sammie & tried to log in to online banking but can't on any browser either on pc or Chromebook. I get as far as waiting for a verification code on my phone but nothing arrives!!! Totally frustrated now. Only option left to phone bank tomorrow!
As of mandatory update on 22/2/24, the app no longer opens. Uninstalling, restarting phone, reinstalling app makes no difference. Up until now, I seem to have been fortunate that the app has worked mostly trouble-free. Admittedly it's not got as many features as some of the newer banks' apps. Coupled with no longer being able to make international payments online, without having to endure a 30 minute scripted conversation with a customer service operative, I'm starting to reconsider ethical bnk
I've been banking with the coop for 20+ years and this is by far the worst banking app. You can't do anything. Anytime you want to amend a payment or change a direct debit/standing order, you have to log into the desktop app so it's pointless. You also can't log in easily. It spends forever on the "finding a secure connection" page and only works if you don't have any other apps open! I updated the app today too and I can't get past that page either so at the moment the app is useless!!
I've just moved to the co-op and as much as I like how much more ethical they are compared to my past bank I wish I'd been able to use the app beforehand as it just doesn't have the same functionality. Please add an option to have a notification for every transaction, I've gone through all the settings and have turned on notifications but it's not for transactions?? isn't this the most basic function of the app? It also claims I can open a savings account from the app but it just errors.
Couldn't log in because the verification code was sent to the wrong phone number, and I'm unable to correct it because it's impossible to specify a non-UK number via their online banking site (also non-UK addresses or addresses with áccéntéd characters cannot be entered there either). Customer service is limited to UK business hours and waiting times to speak to someone on the phone are very long.
Co-op banking app keeps shutting down. Using Samsung s23, same as all year long. Problem just started last week. Everytime I try to look at my members Credit Card statement, it shuts down when I scroll down. Works ok, online version. reported, but nothing happened. Co-op don't have the slickest app and IT dept!

It's missing basic functions that other banking apps have, such as viewing or editing recurring payments like direct debits and standing orders. Co-op Bank made £70m+ profit in 2024, why not use some of that to create a functional service for its customers?
Edit: Months later and it's still buggy - now won't let me log in at all. Absolutely terrible. How do they keep making it worse?! Takes an age to load. Keyboard covers the fields you're typing into so you can't see what you're doing. Can't nickname accounts so it's tricky remembering which is which. Credit card payments aren't deducted from the total so you don't see an accurate picture. It used to be ok but it just keeps getting worse.
Often fails to open, getting stuck on establishing secure convection normally when I really need to get my debit card details or move my money. Very frustrating experience, and as soon as the £25 is paid to me this month, I'll be moving all my money out into another more reliable bank. The app also lacks many features offered by other banks.

Just installed latest update. Finally this one seems to instantly load up saved payees, rather than freeze for 20s. Thank you, makes it much easier and faster and less frustrating.
