Been using PIA for years. Unfortunately, the latest update is extremely buggy. Half the time, I press the connect button and it does nothing but sit there. I push various destinations to connect to, just sits there. I close and reopen the app, it takes ages to open and then just sits there, doesn't even try to connect. Finally had to uninstall/reinstall and log in again in order to get it to just connect finally. The app is now extremely unreliable compared to its prior versions. Really unhappy.
Latest update has an advertisement blocking me from getting into the app. Great! EDIT 1: Oh my god, it's making me log in every day. EDIT 2: Now it doesn't accept my login at all and displaying invalid account information even though I unfortunately have 2 more years left. This is a nightmare. EDIT 3: Had to uninstall it from Android. Reading through the reviews this has been going on for a while as reported by many people.
I'm a 4 year customer, and I used to love this product, but it hasn't been working for the majority of the year. I took it completely off of my TV because it would just spin and never connect. It's starting to be an issue on my phone, too. It won't run on start and frequently turns itself off. I went with a competitor for my TV and it works great. I may be completely switching over for all my devices if they can't resolve the issues soon.
So far works great! It was relatively easy to install on multiple devices (both Android and ios) and easy to transfer to new devices. It chooses IP addresses for you but you can change it if needed. Eg, some worldwide news services offer different content depending on the country you're accessing from. Note - you may want to turn it off to access some sites, like government agencies, so you don't get flagged for extra authentication steps because they don't recognize your address or device.
It's been kinda lame lately. It always asks if it's allowed to send notifications every time I open it (and the only option is 'I Agree'), and it randomly turns off the VPN. Also, the Optimal Location is never optimal anymore. For me, it chooses countries that are on the other side of the planet instead of the closest server near me, making my ping a lot higher than it should be.
I have used this app for a while now without any issues, but the recent update has so many issues I don't know how they weren't caught by QA or Beta testers before it was released. 1) Most importantly, it completely breaks internet connectivity when not connected to wifi. 2) The app is painfully slow to launch. 3) Quick connect list is useless (all 5 entries for me just say "US")
Very user-friendly and works great! Using on my phone and PC, same login no issues. Also, fast download speeds compared to other VPN's I've used. If it's been a while since you used it last, they've made a lot of updates from how they started. It functions like a modern app on both mobile and PC, and they have an on-point UI. Plus, they DEFAULT to Dark Mode, so it's easy on the eyes from the start.
Updating my review again, because it no longer works well. It disconnects the VPN for no discernible reason, on wifi or on mobile data, once every hour or more, then doesn't reconnect automatically. Half the time, no IP address is assigned. At least twice a day, I have to force quit and restart the app because the Connect button doesn't respond to taps. This isn't what I paid for, and I'll be looking for an alternative.
i use it primarily on mobile. when it actually connects it works decent with not a whole lot of speed loss. that being said, I could have 5g with full bars and when I attempt to refresh the server list, it just spins. I would say atleast 50% of my interaction is trying to get it to connect. it can be very frustrating. esp since, you know, I'm giving them money for a service. tbh I'm probably going to try a different service if it keeps up.
This service works great on PC, it's less than optimal on mobile. The server connection menu on mobile is completely broken and has been for a long time. The "optimal server" button doesn't work, ping doesn't refresh on the server list, and you have to try 8 different servers to find one that connects. After that hassle, it's generally pretty good at doing the things you need a VPN to do with the exception of the occasional connection drop when moving with the phone, which doesn't have a warning
Just been using it for a few days and it seems reliable. Barely any loss in speed (5 - 8 Mbps). Still learning the desktop version. This one has plenty of settings to work with. Platform has very clear and informative help desk database. So far, I like the simplicity of the software in general, but at the same time it offers enough options for those who are more advanced. I am already enjoying a few of the many features discovered such as automatic connection of fastest server and snoof.
The new UI is ugly, hard to read, and is locking up often. Notification no longer gives you options to pause, disconnect, or change server along with providing other information and just says "CONNECTED" when the vpn is on. Every single individual change in setting pesters you with a pop up asking you to reconnect. Since the latest update, the connection doesn't last more than a few hours even with locking the app in memory and battery optimizations off where before I'd go days without issues.
An app that you forget about. Because it just works. That's the best kind. You can set it to auto connect when running any app you want extra security on. I would not used android TV without it. Android TV is very insecure. I have been w pia over 6 yrs. I'm still getting used to the latest version of the app. Just me. I'm a little slow. You can't go wrong though. Speeds are fantastic.
PIA is a good service but what happened with the latest update (end of May 2024)? Where did all the widget options go? There's just one now, only 1x1 size, and it has white text on a white background. The persistent notification doesn't let me disconnect anymore. The app takes forever to open now, so that's not an option. Also it's been saying the "optimal location" is a server in China, which isn't right. I like PIA on desktop but this is not cool
Good for the price you pay. But customer service is not at all good. I created a ticket that VPN Snooze works on the desktop but not on the Android app. I included a screen shot. From the response it was obvious the agent didn't even read what I wrote. In terms of functionality, the Always On capability doesn't work consistently. If there is no network connection when the phone boots, PIA won't start automatically. When the network finally comes up, PIA doesn't start unless I open the app.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. PIA is unimaginably bad now. Used to be top notch, but now servers are riddled with slowdown and intermittent connection. Being disconnected every 30 seconds and having to manually reboot the app is not a positive user experience. I'm always hoping, in vain, that some new update will fix all these issues and more. But that's a pipe dream. It was good while it lasted, but PIA's heyday is far behind it.
Great Stuff, Great Stuff. A tad bit... I don't want to say misleading, but the wording regarding the pricing was, although accurate, in need of clarification for my simple mind. Once set up and running, great stuff, great stuff. I did attempt to add a second device, and it seemed there's no way around paying for a completely new setup. Hrm. I may have just overlooked that somewhere. Other than that, very nice product. I'll be testing other options.
This VPN is excellent. It works better, for me, than any I've tried which is most of those reviewed as best. On one of 6 devices it shuts off but it was my error when I was setting up. Their Customer Service is excellent. It seems like they help before you ask. They have the best server selection of any. With other VPN's, who say they refund, it isn't easy. With PIA, there isn't a need for a refund. You won't want one. PIA is great. Many countries and cities. The US has a huge variety. It works.
this was a 5 star app for the longest time. Recently it has been disconnecting on me. I have the kill switch on so I'm constantly having to launch the app to reconnect. it happens multiple times per day. I've checked my app settings and it has full permissions and is set to run in the background. I'm very unhappy with it and plan to switch when my subscription expires. It's too bad because it really is a great VPN otherwise.
i liked it when it was better 2 years ago, it still keeps cutting off and on, and on shadowsocks thing acts weird, i have to turn it off then on again for it to work, even after the update, the mace thing used to stop unwanted adds on apps, but it stopped doing so, over all i do still feel protected, but since im paying so much for the vpn services every year, i don't really feel like im getting what im paying for half of the time, i may cancel my subscription if things don't get better
I have been using PIA for well over a year on both iOS and Windows and have not had any problems. Up until now I would’ve gave it 5 stars. However, all of a sudden v3.6.1 stopped working for me on my iPhone running 13.5.1. At first it wouldn’t connect, it would just spin and now will not allow me to login citing an “SSL error, secure connection to server cannot be made.” Deleting and re-downloading, switching SSID’s etc has not fixed this. Outside of the app not working, my big issue is with the nonexistent costumer support. Initial triage of the issue from PIA was basic. I was told to escalate my ticket since all options were exhausted. So the Development crew replied hours later but showed how they clearly did not read my issue at all from the trouble ticket. If you explicitly state that you do not currently have service and are operating strictly from WiFi as well as you are not able to login, the first two “troubleshooting techniques” should not be “switch to data, or switch from openVPN to WireGuard.” The PIA app still functions on my Windows 10 notebook, but when you pay for services, you expect it to function as stated. I will not be renewing with PIA and will move to ExpressVPN and pay the extra money unless this can actually be rectified. We are sorry to hear of the issues you have experienced with the VPN and with customer service. If you would like to continue troubleshooting, please feel free to contact us via live chat or in the form of a new support ticket. Has worked flawlessly for several years. During that time, I used several iPhones while always maintaining latest iOS and PIA app versions. Then, suddenly several weeks ago, regardless of Wi-Fi/Mobile Network connection, it began disconnecting the PIA VPN, yet allowing Internet traffic, even with KILL SWITCH activated. Ugh! So, I took a chance today, and uninstalled app, then installed again. Left PIA install defaults, which were same as my original settings. So far, it seems fine. However, not enough time has passed to be certain. So, I’ll update the review, if deemed appropriate.
Like everyone else, I have huge connection problems. It loses the VPN IP regularly and does not reconnect when moving between networks. I have to manually power cycle every time I leave my home wifi. Even if PIA shows connected, if you have the kill switch on, apps and browsing is often blocked because somehow PIA has lost the server. I also experience slow speeds and super long reconnect times for PIA. I'm on cellular right now at a coffee shop, I've been at the same table for an hour, and PIA has lost the VPN IP twice and killed my connections. I did fine the first month, then when I purchased the 3yr plan it went south. I thought the reinstall (to change accts) messed with it, but based on reviews and comments it may have simply been unfortunate timing. I really like PIA's philosophy and want to stay with them. But when I have to turn it off to finish my work because I'm having that many problems, I'm forced to consider another. I'll keep trying. I paid for 3 yrs after all. (And to the March 22 reviewer who is annoyed by all the can't connect comments: I HAVE experimented with the settings. It still doesn't work. I'm glad yours does. Truly. But that doesn't mean mine does.)
I don’t know what you guys did on this new update, but now it’s a huge struggle to connect on iPad and iPhone. It’s try...try...try again, over and over and over hoping it will connect. Switching regions is till a 50% chance it will catch. On my Mac Pro it’s produces slow buffering video streaming even at 100mps speed, slow website loading on both Safari and Firefox and major connection issues on iPad and iPhone. Huge disappointment to a customer of 3 years. Sending “slow speed complaint” for the last 3 years weekly has not improved the service at all and is getting very annoying now. This new update put me over the edge to look for a better service. My one year is up in a month and will be looking for a better provider. **UPDATE** Since the new Mac update recently, everything is running beautifully...connection is flawless on Mac. Connection speed is faster, disconnection speed is also faster. The new design is great and have had no problems with this new Mac update. So CHEERS to the nice job. What ever you did to the Mac update needs to be done with iPhone and iPad update. Connection problems still arise when connecting to Canada and Mexico on iPad and iPhone even after iPhone PIA update. I use them because of the lower MS numbers. Thank you for fixing the Mac issues. Here’s hoping fixes will come to iPad and iPhone issues. I am sorry to hear about the connection issues you were experiencing! If you still require assistance with this please contact us here: [email protected] with the subject as ATTN:SMR and we'd be more than happy to assist further. -PIA CS Team
Never had a problem. Has been my go to VPN for the past 2 years. Awesome service ever since

Never had a problem. Has been my go to VPN for the past 2 years. Awesome service ever since
Been using PIA for years.

It was good while it lasted, but PIA's heyday is far behind it.
this was a 5 star app for the longest time.

It works.

Never had a problem. Has been my go to VPN for the past 2 years. Awesome service ever since
