I'm not sure if it's the app or the software on the DVR, but we get way too many 0 alerts of nothing moving and even more alerts for Humans that are not. Also, when a vehicle is parked in the driveway, app alerts you to a vehicle. I don't want to be alerted to a vehicle when it's my own vehicle parked in the driveway. The app is easy to use however.
i was hoping this camera system would be much better than it is. the picture is very high quality, but the software is so very slow and glitchy. half the time, it will not even load up, and when you do get in to look at the video, there are lots of missing segments where you needed it most. most of the time when i get it to start loading up, it will all of a sudden say "oops something went wrong" and then not do anything. if they could fix the glitches and speed it up then it might be good.
So disappointed. I should of reviewed this brand first. I had high hopes for this camera system, but it's very under impressive in every way. the load times are very slow, hopefully it records everything that happens during a detection. The battery life is garbage so make sure to get solar panels to plug into. If your at your home they will pop up quick on the app, if your away, it's questionable if it will load your images up. I've had other brands and they are all way better at performance.
The app used to be great until this last update. Now it takes several tries to connect to the cameras. By the time I'm connected, whatever I was trying to see is gone. So many things have changed. I used to sing praises about how good Night Owl was but now I'm just super disappointed and may have to look into another service. I'm just hoping that they put it back to the way it was. Frustrating!
This app keeps getting worse and worse. I'm convinced all the good reviews are employees. After the most recent update, now when I go to select my system in the app, there's just a spinning loading bar. I have to sign out and back in every time just to see the cameras. Not to mention the cameras automatically loading up zoomed in and you can't disable it. Who thought of this dumb idea? I will be switching from Night Owl to something better.
Extremely disappointed, this product used to be amazing, not even a year of owning it, it works when it wants to work on the app. Literally sitting in my living room, I'm staring at the screen it's recording just fine. Go to check it on my phone on the APP. It doesn't work with wifi, doesn't work with 5G just does not WORK AT ALL. ANYTHING GOES WRONG? I WON'T KNOW, TILL I COME HOME AND HAVE TO. REVIEW THE VIDEO FOOTAGE.BECAUSE IT DOESN'T WORK ON THE APP. will someone answer and fix it please.
App was updated and now there's difficulties connecting in the app. The app could be more user friendly and can use a upgrade visually. The camera quality is good but could definitely be better. The software for the recorder is just as bad as the old MS-DOS. I'd really like if you could have an option to view all active cameras at the same time and not just specific channels. I only have 4 camers and 1 wifi. I'd like to see them full size and not black squares for cameras that aren't connected.
When I purchased this system a few years ago it worked just ok, now it has so many issues from cameras not recording at time of motion to not being able to connect to the app, seems like every week when my system does it's update something else gets messed up, I've invested a ton of money into this system with add on cameras, solar panels for charging etc.. trying to contact support is a nightmare and getting any help with issues is nearly impossible, Invest your money elsewhere!!!
hardly ever let's you look at past events. app is getting worse. cameras are fine, but the app is constantly saying it can't load or crashes. A complete waste of money over the years of having this system. Our Amazon camera app works better. Probably going to get rid of our night owl system because this app never wants to work.
After having the cheapest cameras Walmart sells, I thought buying an actual outside cam would be a better option, I don't like that it only records for 30 seconds even if there's still motion. After the last update, all the secondary motion (in red on the timeline) was obviously removed. Now I hate this camera. Update: After the last software update, my SD card is no longer working. I've even tried formatting it but it won't. it says it was successful, but nothing changes
I believe there is a lot of room for improvement, concentrating more on the camera quality and more detailed adjustments for the cameras. sensitivity and recording are near flawless, though I have had issues with the hardrive being undetected a time or two. the wireless cameras lose wifi connection often, more than other cameras we use. night/day vision also fails rather quickly after installation. im not impressed with the zoom quality as it is very pixelated. it can better. much better.
nothing but problems with app! keeps shutting down as soon as you open it. uninstalled and installed again same issues. Cannot contact support to get problem resolved. For a $60 camera i expected more. I sent an email to your support team. two weeks later I received a call but I was not at home to do anything. Ask for a scheduled call for the following day. no call. 1 star. Up date, it's been a soild month and the app is working fine. not sure what happened, but it works like it should. 4 stars
Not sure if it's the recent update, but lately this app is not connecting. The first time I uninstalled it, and it was fine for a short time, then started again by not connecting, so I restarted my phone, and it worked fine for about two connections, then it would stop again, so I restarted my phone again, and it would work for another two times, then quit. This needs to be checked out to find out what is going on. Very frustrating. I Just uninstalled it's not worth this much hassle
This is the 3rd problem I've had, the last 2 problems took them over a week to fix. For this problem, when i open the app it will find the camera but will have a never ending loading animation and will say the camera is online and i cant access it and look at past events. Already removed power the power plug, waited 30 sec and the problem still persists. I do get notifications but its a bit meaningless because i cant look at them.
The worst camera system on the market. The notifications do not match up to the app when you tap on the notification there is nothing there. Some recorded events are blacked out. You also get notifications hours later after it recorded an event. Like how is this a security device? People will be long gone with your stuff before a notification gets to you. 😡
Apparently I'm not the only one having problems with the app. Twice now I've had to use the monitor for the police when it could've been easier with the app. It doesn't load half the time. Sometimes it only shows me live feed but I can't see earlier recordings. I hate this app. It's bad enough I have no sound on my monitor. Can never get help when I call.
I don't receive notifications until I open my phone. I've done your suggestions and the app still isn't sending all of the notifications. I have uninstalled the app many times. I have also set everything up from scratch many times. I also replaced my wifi system. It still has the same problems. In my phone settings I had also allowed the app to ignore so not disturb.
Can't retrieve playback when I need to check out the activities going on. Everytime I go back to review, it says error and can't process at this time. What's the point of spending money for the devices and installation only to not work properly? The surveillance is not "surveilling". I have a huge issue with that. Instead of customer service helping, they either send you to their website or transfer you to sales to buy more products. This is unacceptable.
I've had Night Owl cameras on my house for about 4 years now. Most of the time, they work great. Every now and then, 2 of my 8 cameras do not show on the app. When viewing from the device directly, all cameras are visible. At the same time, when viewing from the app, I can only see 6 of the 8. The record sensitivity has dropped over time on all cameras. There have been events not recorded with the sensitivity set as high. I have cleaned the sensors on the cameras, and there is no change.
addendum: I tried everything possible to get my device to work. I could never get ANY HELP from Night Owl Customer Service!! Fortunately, I purchased the warranty with Best Buy, and they replaced it. The device was bad. Mine worked just fine, and then it didn't. It keeps telling me I don't have internet when I do. I have two routers (one that sits right next to the night owl), so I know that there's plenty of juice. I can only see my cameras on the monitor. Kinda defeats the purpose

Usually, when I try to check the cameras away from home, which is where I need it, it just spins and won't open anything. It hasn't been saving anything on my phone at all. Not all functions work. Audio alerts. Pre recorded audio alerts aren't enabled for some reason. Button is there but doesn't play . Video is great night and day. Record time shuts off when human/ movement has been longer than 2 min. Audio recording is fine for what I need. This app is 5 times better than older versions. I'm greatful for that
Hardly ever works. Past events won't load. Timeline won't load. Most functions do not work. If your event is one of the recent ones and you do not have to push "see more events" which doesn't work anyways then it will just sit on a loading screen until there is an error message and it doesn't work. I have literally never had this system working and hired someone to install and setup... Doesn't work. At all. Whatsoever. You can't view ANY past videos. Only live feed then half the time that wont
Took forever to hook up the camera to the app, and now only 3 days later the cameras been offline for half the day and I followed all of the walk-through steps and talked to two different people and can't get the camera to go back online. The house got broken into so I kind of need to see who it was. So far. Looking like a very unreliable service
Cameras work great, the wifi system work great, live stream works great, but ive been trying to watch a 10 minute playback clip for a week now and after hours of loading only get about 40 seconds of the video loaded then it even starts unloading itself faster than it can load. And thats with any playback clips. Live stream is great but it is impossible to playback anything at all. I have plenty of storage amd extremely fast internet so i know the problem isn't on my end.
This app absolutely RUINS the overall experience. The fact that the DVR costs as much as it does is ridiculous. For 450$ I have an EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE (to the point of uselessness at times) camera system. There is no way you can't afford to hire developers that are capable of developing an app that is more reliable. When you try to rewind recording it either A) takes a ridiculous amount of time or B) it freezes and I have to close the app down and restart it. That in my opinion, is unacceptable
Hey, Night Owl Techs. Since you all are always looking to improve the App. Please fix the fact that I can't view events without it giving me an error saying the operation could not be processed. This includes the events and the timeline. I also don't like that I can't view the timeline until all the events have downloaded, which is never, I keep getting an error message. Every time an update is done, it never fixes the main issues. What's the point of having such app if you can't view anything.
This app will only remain logged in/keep a connection to the DVR for 1 video in playback. Every single time, for over 20 videos, it will error out saying it has either lost connection to the device or that I need to check my credentials. So, after every single video I have to close the app entirely, reopen it, go back to playback, go back to the date I need, reselect the specific camera, and reload all the events back to the time I need, watch the next video. This is completely unacceptable.
I didn't find the app to be particularly poor. Mid-grade and usable. The cameras, however are absolute garbage and I strongly recommend against anyone buying them. Brand new and worked for about 10 minutes. Then they just wouldn't pick up any motion. Reset and reinstalled several times. Live view was fine, but would not detect anything. Including me standing in front of them waving my hands. #trashcam
This is worthless. Taking it back to the store. Can't get set up because it says email & phone number connected to another app. I've not had any NightOwl products. I can't even reset the password because it says email/phone number not identified. Cannot get a hold of tech support. Extremely disappointed as I like the option of it being wireless. Says USA owned & operated, sure doesn't seem like it.
#4: Should rename the app to "Oops! Something went wrong!" #3: NOTHING works Update#2: used for 4 years and it's never consistently worked despite customer support. Update: not a year old yet and it decided it wasn't going to record anything anymore] Settings I change don't stick. I'll get an alert every single minute that my car, which has been sitting in the same spot for 2 days, has been detected. Even if I create a non detection zone around my car it will still detect it and let me know.
So, after finally solving my problems and getting everything working well for a couple of years 😊. All of a sudden even though the cameras work well on the television. My app is no longer recognizing my system!!! Is this an attempt to force me to buy a new system 🤔. Maybe this should be considered before purchasing this brand!!!!! All my updates were done ✔️. When I scan the box it comes up immediately , however, the app refused to reinstall it after it suddenly started having issues 🤷🏻♀️
Update the app is worst than customer service. They get my info and problem with no resolution. I can't do any reset bc I can't remove device from the app. Nvr buying and do not reccomend night owl! App lags sometimes doesn't open and have to exit and restart app. Not many function on settings. Needs a night vision off function. Also spotlight when selected turns on when something is detected even when it's daytime! Video playback is super slow. Most of the time it'll say error loading.
We constantly get 0 notifications about a human, and there is no human or anything. When the notifications pop up, it's the grill or some random item, or a lot of times, nothing at all. We get notifications from 2 and 3 days old, and when the notifications pop up, you have to look for the image that's on the popup. It could be from that day or the previous day(s). We receive notification of a bench in front of our home, and it is supposed to be a human. And the wireless set we have. REALLY!
Can't even use the app. It hangs on the Night Owl splash screen and never loads up my cameras. Also getting notifications anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour after cameras are triggered. Sometimes, a camera will catch something but the notification shows something from another camera from hours or even days before. Seems like the app gets worse and worse daily.
The security system came connected to an account, and that is not supposed to happen ever. Tried for 3 hours to fix it. The next person hung up on me because I didn't give him the info in under 3 minutes. The third person offered NO apologies. Still waiting for them to remove the device from the account someone hooked it up to. They did not fix it within the 24. it's been 3 days. It's still not fixed. I'm returning the security system
Camera is awesome, app less so. When I open the app says camera is inactive and has to load for 5-45 seconds when it should always be active. Secondly the app goes off so much it's kinda driven me nuts. Yes I can silence it but that takes away from the purpose of a security camera. It'd be nice if I could change it's notification sound on my phone but I cant.
Use to work great, now playback is an upper left hand zoomed in image. Double images and all out useless now. Update fixed it... Now the saved motion clips are useless. Loads up 60ish then crashes and says "leave" . What's the point of recording if you can't go back to watch the videos?
If you just got this system RETURN it and get your money back, if your stuck with it give up on trying to make it work right or sit around waiting for a "good app fix" just throw it right into the dumpster. I've been dealing with this sorry excuse of a security system for over a year. Nothing works as advertised, can't download videos, it doesn't even save events anymore. Yes, I've tried all of their tips and tricks.
Update 10/3: Photo previews finally back. There's functions that don't work. I can't rotate video, settings don't save. Loading times have gotten slower. Don't know why it has to go through internet when I'm connected on the same wifi as DVR. App needs more development. Barely works to get the job done. Slow to load and needs constant restart. Customer service doesn't exist. This means warranty claims are basically zero.

This app absolutely RUINS the overall experience. The fact that the DVR costs as much as it does is ridiculous. For 450$ I have an EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE (to the point of uselessness at times) camera system. There is no way you can't afford to hire developers that are capable of developing an app that is more reliable. When you try to rewind recording it either A) takes a ridiculous amount of time or B) it freezes and I have to close the app down and restart it. That in my opinion, is unacceptable
Took forever to hook up the camera to the app, and now only 3 days later the cameras been offline for half the day and I followed all of the walk-through steps and talked to two different people and can't get the camera to go back online. The house got broken into so I kind of need to see who it was. So far. Looking like a very unreliable service
Hardly ever works. Past events won't load. Timeline won't load. Most functions do not work. If your event is one of the recent ones and you do not have to push "see more events" which doesn't work anyways then it will just sit on a loading screen until there is an error message and it doesn't work. I have literally never had this system working and hired someone to install and setup... Doesn't work. At all. Whatsoever. You can't view ANY past videos. Only live feed then half the time that wont

Update: not a year old yet and it decided it wasn't going to record anything anymore] Settings I change don't stick. I'll get an alert every single minute that my car, which has been sitting in the same spot for 2 days, has been detected. Even if I create a non detection zone around my car it will still detect it and let me know.
addendum: I tried everything possible to get my device to work. I could never get ANY HELP from Night Owl Customer Service!! Fortunately, I purchased the warranty with Best Buy, and they replaced it. The device was bad. Mine worked just fine, and then it didn't. It keeps telling me I don't have internet when I do. I have two routers (one that sits right next to the night owl), so I know that there's plenty of juice. I can only see my cameras on the monitor. Kinda defeats the purpose
I've had Night Owl cameras on my house for about 4 years now. Most of the time, they work great. Every now and then, 2 of my 8 cameras do not show on the app. When viewing from the device directly, all cameras are visible. At the same time, when viewing from the app, I can only see 6 of the 8. The record sensitivity has dropped over time on all cameras. There have been events not recorded with the sensitivity set as high. I have cleaned the sensors on the cameras, and there is no change.
Can't retrieve playback when I need to check out the activities going on. Everytime I go back to review, it says error and can't process at this time. What's the point of spending money for the devices and installation only to not work properly? The surveillance is not "surveilling". I have a huge issue with that. Instead of customer service helping, they either send you to their website or transfer you to sales to buy more products. This is unacceptable.
I don't receive notifications until I open my phone. I've done your suggestions and the app still isn't sending all of the notifications. I have uninstalled the app many times. I have also set everything up from scratch many times. I also replaced my wifi system. It still has the same problems. In my phone settings I had also allowed the app to ignore so not disturb.
Apparently I'm not the only one having problems with the app. Twice now I've had to use the monitor for the police when it could've been easier with the app. It doesn't load half the time. Sometimes it only shows me live feed but I can't see earlier recordings. I hate this app. It's bad enough I have no sound on my monitor. Can never get help when I call.
The worst camera system on the market. The notifications do not match up to the app when you tap on the notification there is nothing there. Some recorded events are blacked out. You also get notifications hours later after it recorded an event. Like how is this a security device? People will be long gone with your stuff before a notification gets to you. 😡
This is the 3rd problem I've had, the last 2 problems took them over a week to fix. For this problem, when i open the app it will find the camera but will have a never ending loading animation and will say the camera is online and i cant access it and look at past events. Already removed power the power plug, waited 30 sec and the problem still persists. I do get notifications but its a bit meaningless because i cant look at them.
Not sure if it's the recent update, but lately this app is not connecting. The first time I uninstalled it, and it was fine for a short time, then started again by not connecting, so I restarted my phone, and it worked fine for about two connections, then it would stop again, so I restarted my phone again, and it would work for another two times, then quit. This needs to be checked out to find out what is going on. Very frustrating. I Just uninstalled it's not worth this much hassle

Also, when a vehicle is parked in the driveway, app alerts you to a vehicle. I don't want to be alerted to a vehicle when it's my own vehicle parked in the driveway. The app is easy to use however.
After having the cheapest cameras Walmart sells, I thought buying an actual outside cam would be a better option, I don't like that it only records for 30 seconds even if there's still motion. After the last update, all the secondary motion (in red on the timeline) was obviously removed. Now I hate this camera. Update: After the last software update, my SD card is no longer working. I've even tried formatting it but it won't. it says it was successful, but nothing changes

When I purchased this system a few years ago it worked just ok, now it has so many issues from cameras not recording at time of motion to not being able to connect to the app, seems like every week when my system does it's update something else gets messed up, I've invested a ton of money into this system with add on cameras, solar panels for charging etc.. trying to contact support is a nightmare and getting any help with issues is nearly impossible, Invest your money elsewhere!!!
App was updated and now there's difficulties connecting in the app. The app could be more user friendly and can use a upgrade visually. The camera quality is good but could definitely be better. The software for the recorder is just as bad as the old MS-DOS. I'd really like if you could have an option to view all active cameras at the same time and not just specific channels. I only have 4 camers and 1 wifi. I'd like to see them full size and not black squares for cameras that aren't connected.

After the most recent update, now when I go to select my system in the app, there's just a spinning loading bar. I have to sign out and back in every time just to see the cameras. So disappointed. I should of reviewed this brand first. I had high hopes for this camera system, but it's very under impressive in every way. the load times are very slow, hopefully it records everything that happens during a detection. The battery life is garbage so make sure to get solar panels to plug into. If your at your home they will pop up quick on the app, if your away, it's questionable if it will load your images up. I've had other brands and they are all way better at performance.
i was hoping this camera system would be much better than it is. the picture is very high quality, but the software is so very slow and glitchy. half the time, it will not even load up, and when you do get in to look at the video, there are lots of missing segments where you needed it most. most of the time when i get it to start loading up, it will all of a sudden say "oops something went wrong" and then not do anything. if they could fix the glitches and speed it up then it might be good.
I believe there is a lot of room for improvement, concentrating more on the camera quality and more detailed adjustments for the cameras. sensitivity and recording are near flawless, though I have had issues with the hardrive being undetected a time or two. the wireless cameras lose wifi connection often, more than other cameras we use. night/day vision also fails rather quickly after installation. im not impressed with the zoom quality as it is very pixelated. it can better. much better.
Update 10/3: Photo previews finally back. There's functions that don't work. I can't rotate video, settings don't save. Loading times have gotten slower. Don't know why it has to go through internet when I'm connected on the same wifi as DVR. App needs more development. Barely works to get the job done. Slow to load and needs constant restart. Customer service doesn't exist. This means warranty claims are basically zero.
If you just got this system RETURN it and get your money back, if your stuck with it give up on trying to make it work right or sit around waiting for a "good app fix" just throw it right into the dumpster. I've been dealing with this sorry excuse of a security system for over a year. Nothing works as advertised, can't download videos, it doesn't even save events anymore. Yes, I've tried all of their tips and tricks.
Use to work great, now playback is an upper left hand zoomed in image. Double images and all out useless now. Update fixed it... Now the saved motion clips are useless. Loads up 60ish then crashes and says "leave" . What's the point of recording if you can't go back to watch the videos?
Camera is awesome, app less so. When I open the app says camera is inactive and has to load for 5-45 seconds when it should always be active. Secondly the app goes off so much it's kinda driven me nuts. Yes I can silence it but that takes away from the purpose of a security camera. It'd be nice if I could change it's notification sound on my phone but I cant.
The security system came connected to an account, and that is not supposed to happen ever. Tried for 3 hours to fix it. The next person hung up on me because I didn't give him the info in under 3 minutes. The third person offered NO apologies. Still waiting for them to remove the device from the account someone hooked it up to. They did not fix it within the 24. it's been 3 days. It's still not fixed. I'm returning the security system
Can't even use the app. It hangs on the Night Owl splash screen and never loads up my cameras. Also getting notifications anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour after cameras are triggered. Sometimes, a camera will catch something but the notification shows something from another camera from hours or even days before. Seems like the app gets worse and worse daily.
We constantly get 0 notifications about a human, and there is no human or anything. When the notifications pop up, it's the grill or some random item, or a lot of times, nothing at all. We get notifications from 2 and 3 days old, and when the notifications pop up, you have to look for the image that's on the popup. It could be from that day or the previous day(s). We receive notification of a bench in front of our home, and it is supposed to be a human. And the wireless set we have. REALLY!
Update the app is worst than customer service. They get my info and problem with no resolution. I can't do any reset bc I can't remove device from the app. Nvr buying and do not reccomend night owl! App lags sometimes doesn't open and have to exit and restart app. Not many function on settings. Needs a night vision off function. Also spotlight when selected turns on when something is detected even when it's daytime! Video playback is super slow. Most of the time it'll say error loading.
So, after finally solving my problems and getting everything working well for a couple of years 😊. All of a sudden even though the cameras work well on the television. My app is no longer recognizing my system!!! Is this an attempt to force me to buy a new system 🤔. Maybe this should be considered before purchasing this brand!!!!! All my updates were done ✔️. When I scan the box it comes up immediately , however, the app refused to reinstall it after it suddenly started having issues 🤷🏻♀️

This is worthless. Taking it back to the store. Can't get set up because it says email & phone number connected to another app. I've not had any NightOwl products. I can't even reset the password because it says email/phone number not identified. Cannot get a hold of tech support. Extremely disappointed as I like the option of it being wireless. Says USA owned & operated, sure doesn't seem like it.

Brand new and worked for about 10 minutes. Then they just wouldn't pick up any motion. Reset and reinstalled several times. Live view was fine, but would not detect anything. Including me standing in front of them waving my hands. #trashcam
This app will only remain logged in/keep a connection to the DVR for 1 video in playback. Every single time, for over 20 videos, it will error out saying it has either lost connection to the device or that I need to check my credentials. So, after every single video I have to close the app entirely, reopen it, go back to playback, go back to the date I need, reselect the specific camera, and reload all the events back to the time I need, watch the next video. This is completely unacceptable.

Cameras work great, the wifi system work great, live stream works great, but ive been trying to watch a 10 minute playback clip for a week now and after hours of loading only get about 40 seconds of the video loaded then it even starts unloading itself faster than it can load. And thats with any playback clips. Live stream is great but it is impossible to playback anything at all. I have plenty of storage amd extremely fast internet so i know the problem isn't on my end.

Not all functions work. Audio alerts. Pre recorded audio alerts aren't enabled for some reason. Button is there but doesn't play . Video is great night and day. Record time shuts off when human/ movement has been longer than 2 min. Audio recording is fine for what I need. This app is 5 times better than older versions. I'm greatful for that

I'll get an alert every single minute that my car, which has been sitting in the same spot for 2 days, has been detected. Even if I create a non detection zone around my car it will still detect it and let me know.
So, after finally solving my problems and getting everything working well for a couple of years 😊. All of a sudden even though the cameras work well on the television. My app is no longer recognizing my system!!! Is this an attempt to force me to buy a new system 🤔. Maybe this should be considered before purchasing this brand!!!!! All my updates were done ✔️. When I scan the box it comes up immediately , however, the app refused to reinstall it after it suddenly started having issues 🤷🏻♀️
Update the app is worst than customer service. They get my info and problem with no resolution. I can't do any reset bc I can't remove device from the app. Nvr buying and do not reccomend night owl! App lags sometimes doesn't open and have to exit and restart app. Not many function on settings. Needs a night vision off function. Also spotlight when selected turns on when something is detected even when it's daytime! Video playback is super slow. Most of the time it'll say error loading.

We get notifications from 2 and 3 days old, and when the notifications pop up, you have to look for the image that's on the popup. It could be from that day or the previous day(s). We receive notification of a bench in front of our home, and it is supposed to be a human. And the wireless set we have. REALLY!

The security system came connected to an account, and that is not supposed to happen ever. Tried for 3 hours to fix it. The next person hung up on me because I didn't give him the info in under 3 minutes. The third person offered NO apologies. Still waiting for them to remove the device from the account someone hooked it up to. They did not fix it within the 24. it's been 3 days. It's still not fixed. I'm returning the security system

Secondly the app goes off so much it's kinda driven me nuts. Yes I can silence it but that takes away from the purpose of a security camera. It'd be nice if I could change it's notification sound on my phone but I cant.
Use to work great, now playback is an upper left hand zoomed in image. Double images and all out useless now. Update fixed it... Now the saved motion clips are useless. Loads up 60ish then crashes and says "leave" . What's the point of recording if you can't go back to watch the videos?
If you just got this system RETURN it and get your money back, if your stuck with it give up on trying to make it work right or sit around waiting for a "good app fix" just throw it right into the dumpster. I've been dealing with this sorry excuse of a security system for over a year. Nothing works as advertised, can't download videos, it doesn't even save events anymore. Yes, I've tried all of their tips and tricks.
Update 10/3: Photo previews finally back. There's functions that don't work. I can't rotate video, settings don't save. Loading times have gotten slower. Don't know why it has to go through internet when I'm connected on the same wifi as DVR. App needs more development. Barely works to get the job done. Slow to load and needs constant restart. Customer service doesn't exist. This means warranty claims are basically zero.
I've had Night Owl cameras on my house for about 4 years now. Most of the time, they work great. Every now and then, 2 of my 8 cameras do not show on the app. When viewing from the device directly, all cameras are visible. At the same time, when viewing from the app, I can only see 6 of the 8. The record sensitivity has dropped over time on all cameras. There have been events not recorded with the sensitivity set as high. I have cleaned the sensors on the cameras, and there is no change.
nothing but problems with app! keeps shutting down as soon as you open it. uninstalled and installed again same issues. Cannot contact support to get problem resolved. For a $60 camera i expected more. I sent an email to your support team. two weeks later I received a call but I was not at home to do anything. Ask for a scheduled call for the following day. no call. 1 star. Up date, it's been a soild month and the app is working fine. not sure what happened, but it works like it should. 4 stars
I believe there is a lot of room for improvement, concentrating more on the camera quality and more detailed adjustments for the cameras. sensitivity and recording are near flawless, though I have had issues with the hardrive being undetected a time or two. the wireless cameras lose wifi connection often, more than other cameras we use. night/day vision also fails rather quickly after installation. im not impressed with the zoom quality as it is very pixelated. it can better. much better.
App was updated and now there's difficulties connecting in the app. The app could be more user friendly and can use a upgrade visually. The camera quality is good but could definitely be better. The software for the recorder is just as bad as the old MS-DOS. I'd really like if you could have an option to view all active cameras at the same time and not just specific channels. I only have 4 camers and 1 wifi. I'd like to see them full size and not black squares for cameras that aren't connected.

Cameras work great, the wifi system work great, live stream works great, but ive been trying to watch a 10 minute playback clip for a week now and after hours of loading only get about 40 seconds of the video loaded then it even starts unloading itself faster than it can load. And thats with any playback clips. Live stream is great but it is impossible to playback anything at all. I have plenty of storage amd extremely fast internet so i know the problem isn't on my end.
Not all functions work. Audio alerts. Pre recorded audio alerts aren't enabled for some reason. Button is there but doesn't play . Video is great night and day. Record time shuts off when human/ movement has been longer than 2 min. Audio recording is fine for what I need. This app is 5 times better than older versions. I'm greatful for that
I'm not sure if it's the app or the software on the DVR, but we get way too many 0 alerts of nothing moving and even more alerts for Humans that are not. Also, when a vehicle is parked in the driveway, app alerts you to a vehicle. I don't want to be alerted to a vehicle when it's my own vehicle parked in the driveway. The app is easy to use however.

When I purchased this system a few years ago it worked just ok, now it has so many issues from cameras not recording at time of motion to not being able to connect to the app, seems like every week when my system does it's update something else gets messed up, I've invested a ton of money into this system with add on cameras, solar panels for charging etc.. trying to contact support is a nightmare and getting any help with issues is nearly impossible, Invest your money elsewhere!!!

The app needs work. Very unreliable; almost useless.. The app works part-time inside the house. The quality is nice when it does work. Usually, when I try to check the cameras away from home, which is where I need it, it just spins and won't open anything. It hasn't been saving anything on my phone at all. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Nothing helps.
addendum: I tried everything possible to get my device to work. I could never get ANY HELP from Night Owl Customer Service!! Fortunately, I purchased the warranty with Best Buy, and they replaced it. The device was bad. Mine worked just fine, and then it didn't. It keeps telling me I don't have internet when I do. I have two routers (one that sits right next to the night owl), so I know that there's plenty of juice. I can only see my cameras on the monitor. Kinda defeats the purpose
Can't retrieve playback when I need to check out the activities going on. Everytime I go back to review, it says error and can't process at this time. What's the point of spending money for the devices and installation only to not work properly? The surveillance is not "surveilling". I have a huge issue with that. Instead of customer service helping, they either send you to their website or transfer you to sales to buy more products. This is unacceptable.
I don't receive notifications until I open my phone. I've done your suggestions and the app still isn't sending all of the notifications. I have uninstalled the app many times. I have also set everything up from scratch many times. I also replaced my wifi system. It still has the same problems. In my phone settings I had also allowed the app to ignore so not disturb.
Apparently I'm not the only one having problems with the app. Twice now I've had to use the monitor for the police when it could've been easier with the app. It doesn't load half the time. Sometimes it only shows me live feed but I can't see earlier recordings. I hate this app. It's bad enough I have no sound on my monitor. Can never get help when I call.
The worst camera system on the market. The notifications do not match up to the app when you tap on the notification there is nothing there. Some recorded events are blacked out. You also get notifications hours later after it recorded an event. Like how is this a security device? People will be long gone with your stuff before a notification gets to you. 😡
This is the 3rd problem I've had, the last 2 problems took them over a week to fix. For this problem, when i open the app it will find the camera but will have a never ending loading animation and will say the camera is online and i cant access it and look at past events. Already removed power the power plug, waited 30 sec and the problem still persists. I do get notifications but its a bit meaningless because i cant look at them.
Not sure if it's the recent update, but lately this app is not connecting. The first time I uninstalled it, and it was fine for a short time, then started again by not connecting, so I restarted my phone, and it worked fine for about two connections, then it would stop again, so I restarted my phone again, and it would work for another two times, then quit. This needs to be checked out to find out what is going on. Very frustrating. I Just uninstalled it's not worth this much hassle
After having the cheapest cameras Walmart sells, I thought buying an actual outside cam would be a better option, I don't like that it only records for 30 seconds even if there's still motion. After the last update, all the secondary motion (in red on the timeline) was obviously removed. Now I hate this camera. Update: After the last software update, my SD card is no longer working. I've even tried formatting it but it won't. it says it was successful, but nothing changes

After the most recent update, now when I go to select my system in the app, there's just a spinning loading bar. I have to sign out and back in every time just to see the cameras. Not to mention the cameras automatically loading up zoomed in and you can't disable it. Who thought of this dumb idea? I will be switching from Night Owl to something better.
The app used to be great until this last update. Now it takes several tries to connect to the cameras. By the time I'm connected, whatever I was trying to see is gone. So many things have changed. I used to sing praises about how good Night Owl was but now I'm just super disappointed and may have to look into another service. I'm just hoping that they put it back to the way it was. So disappointed. I should of reviewed this brand first. I had high hopes for this camera system, but it's very under impressive in every way. the load times are very slow, hopefully it records everything that happens during a detection. The battery life is garbage so make sure to get solar panels to plug into. If your at your home they will pop up quick on the app, if your away, it's questionable if it will load your images up. I've had other brands and they are all way better at performance.
i was hoping this camera system would be much better than it is. the picture is very high quality, but the software is so very slow and glitchy. half the time, it will not even load up, and when you do get in to look at the video, there are lots of missing segments where you needed it most. most of the time when i get it to start loading up, it will all of a sudden say "oops something went wrong" and then not do anything. if they could fix the glitches and speed it up then it might be good.

This is worthless. Taking it back to the store. Can't get set up because it says email & phone number connected to another app. I've not had any NightOwl products. I can't even reset the password because it says email/phone number not identified. Cannot get a hold of tech support. Extremely disappointed as I like the option of it being wireless. Says USA owned & operated, sure doesn't seem like it.
I didn't find the app to be particularly poor. Mid-grade and usable. The cameras, however are absolute garbage and I strongly recommend against anyone buying them. Brand new and worked for about 10 minutes. Then they just wouldn't pick up any motion. Reset and reinstalled several times. Live view was fine, but would not detect anything. Including me standing in front of them waving my hands. #trashcam
This app will only remain logged in/keep a connection to the DVR for 1 video in playback. Every single time, for over 20 videos, it will error out saying it has either lost connection to the device or that I need to check my credentials. So, after every single video I have to close the app entirely, reopen it, go back to playback, go back to the date I need, reselect the specific camera, and reload all the events back to the time I need, watch the next video. This is completely unacceptable.
Hey, Night Owl Techs. Since you all are always looking to improve the App. Please fix the fact that I can't view events without it giving me an error saying the operation could not be processed. This includes the events and the timeline. I also don't like that I can't view the timeline until all the events have downloaded, which is never, I keep getting an error message. Every time an update is done, it never fixes the main issues. What's the point of having such app if you can't view anything.
This app absolutely RUINS the overall experience. The fact that the DVR costs as much as it does is ridiculous. For 450$ I have an EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE (to the point of uselessness at times) camera system. There is no way you can't afford to hire developers that are capable of developing an app that is more reliable. When you try to rewind recording it either A) takes a ridiculous amount of time or B) it freezes and I have to close the app down and restart it. That in my opinion, is unacceptable
Took forever to hook up the camera to the app, and now only 3 days later the cameras been offline for half the day and I followed all of the walk-through steps and talked to two different people and can't get the camera to go back online. The house got broken into so I kind of need to see who it was. So far. Looking like a very unreliable service
Hardly ever works. Past events won't load. Timeline won't load. Most functions do not work. If your event is one of the recent ones and you do not have to push "see more events" which doesn't work anyways then it will just sit on a loading screen until there is an error message and it doesn't work. We receive notification of a bench in front of our home, and it is supposed to be a human. And the wireless set we have. REALLY!
Update the app is worst than customer service. They get my info and problem with no resolution. I can't do any reset bc I can't remove device from the app. Nvr buying and do not reccomend night owl! App lags sometimes doesn't open and have to exit and restart app. Not many function on settings. Needs a night vision off function. Also spotlight when selected turns on when something is detected even when it's daytime! Video playback is super slow. Most of the time it'll say error loading.
So, after finally solving my problems and getting everything working well for a couple of years 😊. All of a sudden even though the cameras work well on the television. My app is no longer recognizing my system!!! Is this an attempt to force me to buy a new system 🤔. Maybe this should be considered before purchasing this brand!!!!! All my updates were done ✔️. When I scan the box it comes up immediately , however, the app refused to reinstall it after it suddenly started having issues 🤷🏻♀️
The app needs work. Very unreliable; almost useless.. The app works part-time inside the house. The quality is nice when it does work. Usually, when I try to check the cameras away from home, which is where I need it, it just spins and won't open anything. It hasn't been saving anything on my phone at all. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Nothing helps.
This is worthless. Taking it back to the store. Can't get set up because it says email & phone number connected to another app. I've not had any NightOwl products. I can't even reset the password because it says email/phone number not identified. Cannot get a hold of tech support. Extremely disappointed as I like the option of it being wireless. Says USA owned & operated, sure doesn't seem like it.
I didn't find the app to be particularly poor. Mid-grade and usable. The cameras, however are absolute garbage and I strongly recommend against anyone buying them. Brand new and worked for about 10 minutes. Then they just wouldn't pick up any motion. Reset and reinstalled several times. Live view was fine, but would not detect anything. Including me standing in front of them waving my hands. #trashcam
This app will only remain logged in/keep a connection to the DVR for 1 video in playback. Every single time, for over 20 videos, it will error out saying it has either lost connection to the device or that I need to check my credentials. So, after every single video I have to close the app entirely, reopen it, go back to playback, go back to the date I need, reselect the specific camera, and reload all the events back to the time I need, watch the next video. This is completely unacceptable.
Hey, Night Owl Techs. Since you all are always looking to improve the App. Please fix the fact that I can't view events without it giving me an error saying the operation could not be processed. This includes the events and the timeline. I also don't like that I can't view the timeline until all the events have downloaded, which is never, I keep getting an error message. Every time an update is done, it never fixes the main issues. What's the point of having such app if you can't view anything.
This app absolutely RUINS the overall experience. The fact that the DVR costs as much as it does is ridiculous. For 450$ I have an EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE (to the point of uselessness at times) camera system. There is no way you can't afford to hire developers that are capable of developing an app that is more reliable. When you try to rewind recording it either A) takes a ridiculous amount of time or B) it freezes and I have to close the app down and restart it. That in my opinion, is unacceptable
Cameras work great, the wifi system work great, live stream works great, but ive been trying to watch a 10 minute playback clip for a week now and after hours of loading only get about 40 seconds of the video loaded then it even starts unloading itself faster than it can load. And thats with any playback clips. Live stream is great but it is impossible to playback anything at all. I have plenty of storage amd extremely fast internet so i know the problem isn't on my end.
Took forever to hook up the camera to the app, and now only 3 days later the cameras been offline for half the day and I followed all of the walk-through steps and talked to two different people and can't get the camera to go back online. The house got broken into so I kind of need to see who it was. So far. Looking like a very unreliable service
Hardly ever works. Past events won't load. Timeline won't load. Most functions do not work. If your event is one of the recent ones and you do not have to push "see more events" which doesn't work anyways then it will just sit on a loading screen until there is an error message and it doesn't work. I have literally never had this system working and hired someone to install and setup... Doesn't work. At all. Whatsoever. You can't view ANY past videos. Only live feed then half the time that wont
Not all functions work. Audio alerts. Pre recorded audio alerts aren't enabled for some reason. Button is there but doesn't play . Video is great night and day. Record time shuts off when human/ movement has been longer than 2 min. Audio recording is fine for what I need. This app is 5 times better than older versions. I'm greatful for that
#4: Should rename the app to "Oops! Something went wrong!" #3: NOTHING works Update#2: used for 4 years and it's never consistently worked despite customer support. Update: not a year old yet and it decided it wasn't going to record anything anymore] Settings I change don't stick. I'll get an alert every single minute that my car, which has been sitting in the same spot for 2 days, has been detected. Even if I create a non detection zone around my car it will still detect it and let me know.
