It won't work with Last Pass itself which is kind of a bare minimum type thing. Also, their troubleshooting guide says to just Uninstall and reinstall it. But if you do that, you lose the accounts you already have on there. And here's the kicker, you can't back them up without setting up 2 factor authentication with the last pass account. Which again, won't work in the first place.
I love the app. I would add a couple of features though. I would add the ability of generating tokens on the browser extension/web version as well. Also, I think that the security measures in terms of repeated passwords should be managed differently. Where I work, my office account and the firm's wiki share the same LDAP, so both of those accounts *must* have the same credentials, which lowers my security score. I'd like to group all apps that must share the same password so I can launch them.
This is lots easier than having to type your Last Pass browser extension credentials. Just click Authenticate on your Last Pass browser extension and click accept on the Last Pass cell phone push notification. There might be a push notification lag every once in a while. Don't become too dependent on this or you may actually forget your Last Pass password.
I love that I can use LastPass on my android to secure and access my passwords when needed on the go, but the launch function is awful. It launches the site, and I can log in, but when I need to use the back button to go back a page on the site I 'm using, I am thrown back to the LastPass login page and I have to keep logging in numerous times. Very inconvenient!!!
Overall a good authenticator app. Just one major issue. I had to reset my phone because it was having some problems, and I went to install this app again. I went in and logged into my account, but none of my codes showed up on the screen. It asked me if I wanted to restore my data from my account, but then it said there was nothing stored on my account that could be restored. So I pretty much lost all of my codes for all of my logins. I do think this app does a lot for me in terms of security, but a major blow to me when I had lost all of my login codes. Now I have to explain why I have trouble logging into some of my accounts!
I've tried other Password Managers and not many have the option of using an Authenticator to set up the Password Manager account. It was pretty straight forward on setting up on my new phone also. I've had Password Manager for a couple of years now and so far I haven't had issues with it, plus there might be more robust and more secure Managers but this one is secure and it isn't as difficult to set up or use
Last pass has some kinks that need working out, but is over all a very good tool. The authenticator app itself is super simple and out of the way. You don't need to struggle with opening it up and navigating around places, it just has a little pop up and you click accept or reject and it goes away. It has one job and it does that job well.
The web browser extension works really well but the Android app is a pile of garbage. It is the rudest application in the store. It is always opening on top of other apps even when I'm not in a password field. Even though it's reused by the mobile browser extension, the two can't work together. I can literally keep hitting cancel on the biometric authentication and the mobile browser keeps deep linking causing an infinite loop of cancels until I close the browser.
This is a very useful and easy-to-use app for your 2-Factor Authentification needs. It is easy to find the website or app you want to access, tap/hold down on the generated number to copy the code, then go back to the website or app you wish to access, and paste the code in. I don't think I have ever had a glitch using this app.
Overall it's decent. Good at being secure and storing passwords but.... Too many bugs still on the UI for auto filling passwords & generating new ones + using authenticatoe - stuck in loops wont confirm. Core features... good. Any features beyond that... they work 70% of the time. And generally poor choices by company. You don't get support even as a paid member. Only business/enterprise clients get support now. LastPass regularly asks for feedback but doesn't often execute on obvious issues.
The log in was not effortless and it took multiple tries for me to get it set up properly. In addition when I need to use the app it takes a very long time for the vetification email where I have to verify the device I am using to arrive. Much longer than it does for any other emails that are sent to me. Others in the company I work for who have 20 plus years experience in IT such as myself have encountered the same problems.
This app has been wonderful for all my MFA needs. It works for lots of applications, like Google, Microsoft, LastPass password app, Adobe, Amazon, and plenty of others. I have never run into a problem using this app for authentication. It notifies me when I need to do an authentication and the countdown gives you ample to to input the data. Couldn't be happier with the software.
The best authenticator app I've seen so far (and it has been for several years)! You can configure it with the same TOTP seed that almost all other apps use (the 6 digit numbers). With some services, it can use "push notifications" to pop a message on your "trusted device", typically your phone. Just click yes to allow the login. Much easier than copying numbers from TXT messages into another app!
I've been using LastPass for around 2-3 years now, and the free version was working fine for me for the majority of it. Then, I decided to try the premium features so I could have multiple devices logged in, and it was only a yearly subscription I thought why not? I haven't regretted my purchase once, and when I found out that the authenticatior app existed I immediately jumped on it. You could probably live without a password manager, but it makes life so much easier! Definitely use this app!
When it stays on, the authenticator works very quickly and easily. Sometimes in the security dashboard for your overall security score, it's disabled but it's happening less and less frequently. Even if it says the Authenticator is disabled, it still works. Other than that, tech support is great and it's really a very usable program. The only reason I would switch, is if they keep raising the yearly price. There's lots of other products out there but I do like the ease of use of Last Pass.
I appreciate the backup feature. However, the app would be much more useful if I could rearrange the entries. (I have tried long-pressing entries to no avail.) Apparently, the last entry added goes to the bottom so my list is quite random. I have to scroll through all my entries, find the correct one, and enter the code within the time allowed (30 seconds I think). At least, I can rename entries so I recognize what I want.
This app started out amazing. I find it annoying, however, that I can only use my account the way I've used it for years, on my computer & my cell phone, unless I pay for a yr in advance. A few bucks, I'd drop it & not think twice. But for the cost of a good meal? I'd rather eat the food. The real kicker is requiring both devices to log in even though both devices do not have access. The notices are extremely annoying. I'll be moving on. Did I mention that support is not available w/o $?
Trying to backup but the app prompts me to log in over and over in an eternal circle of frustration. This is not including the first login attempt when I had to check email, text a code, and app notification because they did not recognize the device. Also, if you go through the Rate and Share Settings menu and leave negative feedback, it will link you only to their suggestion form. But if you say you're happy then, lo and behold, straight to the Play Store you go. 2 stars off just for that.
Upon constantly receiving the error “app needs to be restarted” or something along those lines over the course of about a week I attempted to troubleshoot. I found an update was available so I applied the update but to my misfortune it provided no resolve. I could not remember the last time I restarted my phone and thinking something may be cached I decided to give it a restart, still no resolve. As a last ditch effort I uninstalled and re-installed the app confident my keys would be there as to my knowledge I had taken every step necessary when I set up the app including linking my account to my last pass account so that cloud backups would be in place. But when I reinstalled the app and linked it back to my existing last pass account I was told there was nothing to restore. Pretty frustrated as I do not remember off the top of my head which accounts were linked to this Authenticator but I know it was more than a few since I had been slowly migrating my MFA options to this Authenticator since I pay for the subscription and u would like to keep as many accounts as possible from using SMS as my authentication method to protect from sim swapping. Here’s to hoping that I can access my accounts in the future and for anyone currently or thinking of using this app let this be a warning to not keep all your eggs in one basket or in this case keys in one app.
I have used about 3-4 other password managers. I use them both on windows as well as iOS devices. This one is HANDS DOWN the absolute best! It works flawlessly and will auto fill on both windows and iOS. I used Dashlane for a long time but more times than not, it would not catch a new updated password even though it said it did. So I was locked out of a regularly used app… not good. The neat thing about this one besides being a fair price is that it comes free with a subscription to Webroot AV. I use that both at home and work. It’s lightweight and cloud based and has great protection. The big A online store has the best prices on that. I am a 30 year IT veteran so I feel like I am well positioned to evaluate this product. Hope this helps you in your search.
Important: this review is for LastPass Authenticator, not LastPass itself. I’m happy to say that the problem I describe below has been fixed, so I am updating my review to 5 stars. I’m leaving this problem description in case others had the same complaint, but it has been fixed. You can use a passcode if TouchID doesn’t work due to wet hands etc. Authenticator used to be better. But now, I am forced to use either a passcode or Touch ID to verify. I would strongly prefer to be able to use either, since Touch ID is usually faster, but may not work due to sweat or cold weather. I happily use Authy for most of my second factor needs. The developer responded saying I can disable PIN & Biometric login, but that’s not what I want. I want to use TouchID normally with PIN as a backup. A previous version of LastPass Authenticator supported this, but the current version does not. [Edit response] Hello yzzyx, I've edited my response to better answer your question! If you enable Biometric login on the settings tab of the app then you will automatically be prompted to setup a PIN as a backup. Let me know if that helps? Regards, LastPass.
I started out using the free version with only a half dozen of my passwords recorded in the app. It seemed to work well during the few months I was testing it so I opted for the Premium paid version. I went full in using the app on my iPhone and the browser extension on my desktop computer. All seemed good for a few months then the browser extension just stopped working? I tried everything and eventually had to uninstall and reinstall the browser extension…but then I had problems with syncing between the iPhone app? So I uninstalled the iPhone app and reinstalled it and all seemed good for a week or so then the same issues started again?? I attempted trying to resolve the issues with customer service but it was quickly apparent that they would not be able to resolve my issues. So, only 2 months into my Premium subscription I have a “paperweight” password app that I can’t reliably use…and LastPass doesn’t do any refunds!! Oh yea, It was nice when it actually worked as advertised.
Overall, this works well, but there are some improvements that should be made. For example, I had it set so that you needed face ID to open the app. However, that meant that I could not tap the approve button on my watch. I would hit the button and nothing would happen. It took me a very long time to figure out why that wasn’t working. I was quite frustrated that this was not better explained. In addition, it’s very convoluted when I try to log into LastPass on my phone I don’t have to go to the Authenticator and then go back to LastPass and I end up frequently (or so it seems) having to do this several time. There must be a better way to do this.
