Been using it for years and it does the trick. Optimal solution for me. Local recording (ie private), free and also simple and effective for note taking and even meeting audio capture (don't expect high quality sound from your phones microphone, but maybe you'll get lucky) Secret audio recordings.. huh? Yea? I'll be honest I've used it for that. Hit record, put in pocket or on the table, and save the conversation. It wasn't for nefarious purposes, come on now. Thanks to those who made this app!
I'm sure it can do plenty more than what I've used, so far, but one thing I really like is it allows you to pause and resume. With some other apps, once you stop recording, that's it, no continuing. I'd like it to pause all other media when i record. I'd also like it to STAY paused until I decide I'm finished recording, and want to save a recording.
Records wav files that I can email all from within the app. So great and makes my life easier. Edit Oct. 2020: I can't believe I have been using this app for four years. I rely on it to make recordings during a lesson and send them to my students in seconds. Someone else said in a review that the recording skips. That only happens when my phone is getting low on memory and starts running slow in general. I use a cleaner to free up ram and boost performance.
This has been my go to app for voice notes for many years. Across several devices, this has always worked for me. But today, as I am writing this, it has crashed at the end of a half hour recording. During this recording I let my screen go blank, my device lock, I switched apps to look at something else, and I lost cell service intermittently. This has never been a problem until this one time, but it was enough to shake my trust. A recording app must be very, very reliable. Otherwise 5 stars.
I've used this app for many years and it's always been reliable and awesome. As a musician, it's nice to have a quick and easy recording app that has automatic input leveling, giving me consistently high quality recordings regardless of fluctuating volume, whether it's my full band at a rehearsal or just me humming a song idea. It's great for any kind of field recording.
I've used this app for quite a few years, but really, just arbitrarily. Recently I started having features blocked by ads due to the fact that I'm still on the free app. More than half page ads, mind you. So I went down the ole' "Stop Getting Ads" rabbit hole and paid the admittadly low price of $1.49 to (presumably) stop the ads. Nope. Just made them one eighth of the page istead of three quarters of the page. Super duper slimy. My God, how do you sleep at night?!
Very easy to use and clear, I've used for some acting voice over work when my home studio was down! Great for quick vocal notes and records for hours without taking up too much space on your phone! I've caught a dirty family member saying horrible things about me and my family using this app. It didn't stop or anything overnight and I had all the proof I needed to justify kicking them out!! Yep this is a handy catch them in a lie tool if you can hide your phone discreetly!
Used for quite a while now. it's exactly what I was looking for. Doesn't time-out the recording session, so I can think before I speak. Also has pause so I can talk to someone off the record without breaking up the stream. Folder names+structure so I can organize topics. Quick share for distribution & backup. Picks up voices across the room nicely. Very thoughtful engineering thank you
New version is bad. Simply put i have been a faithful user for years. It helped me in gathering evidence. Recording calls. It was a reliable app. Now it stops recording on its own if you go to another program. Or are doing something else. The whole interphase is different and prone to stopping your recording easier or messing up. The point is i depended on this program to record properly when i need it for phone conversations or people ones. It does not work like the old versions. Bad changes.
I've been using this app for years, by far the best recording app i've ever used. I'm a musician/audio engineer professionally, and this is the best way to quickly record an idea to work on later, record some cool sounds while you're out and about, or even capture the moment in a jam session/show. You can choose the sample rate too which is a big plus (higher or lower quality recordings depending on your needs). Fantastic app. All i could ask for is auto-sync to google drive.
So far so good. It's simple, straightforward, and easy to navigate. I do wish there was a "quick record" option that would allow me to start recording from a cold, locked state as I am using this to make a record of domestic abuse and having to unlock, swipe, open the app, and press record means I miss a lot of stuff at the beginning of an episode, when it's often the most incriminating.
This is the best app if you need to record sound. There is ads, but they dont interfere with the app. And it's FREE! If you're a musician and don't want to forget your new riff or a composition, it's perfect. Or a journalist that needs to record a conversation, also it can be as long as you need. Plus, you can record and listen while using the phone. Other sound recorder apps, you have to wait for an add or 2 every time you use a different option. Love it! Thanks to the creators. Peace ✌️
my favorite recording app by far!! I tried a bunch, including at least one that I paid for. Smart Voice Recorder remains the best. My *one* tiny issue is that when you are making a recording, the buttons for 'Save' and 'Cancel' should be further apart, so I don't accidentally brush against my screen in the wrong way and delete an hour-long recording I was in the middle of making. This is a small issue, and it has never actually happened in my time using the app.
Fantastic app. It's capable of sounding great if you go into the settings and turn the quality up (resulting in large file sizes), or you can sacrifice some quality with lower settings to save space on your device. My phone's microphone sucks, so I also used the settings to make it a bit more sensitive. So now it can pick up sounds that used to be too quiet. Though beware, if you later use it in a situation with much louder sounds, it may result in clipping/distortion. If in doubt, leave on Auto
Used to be great. Recently something happened with this, and caused it to lose most of my files that I've recorded. It has kept a few, and those that it kept, replaced all of the other files. For example, recording #100, has now replaced recording #40 through 60, (and so on). Also, I keep receiving a prompt stating, "Storage Location Unavailable". I've went through the options to rectify it (several times), but it's not being applied. Please fix the updated coding that you obviously messed up.
Update: it's 2025, only a year after my previous edit but 10yrs since my first, and I just want to ask the developer: Can I give you money!?! SVR is entirely the best recorder. I love love love it!! I don't have much $$ becausemy job was outsourced (last day is 7/31, but can I at least send you $20 for a lunch? :) Edit: Still using this app in 2024. Love this so much. So easy to use and picks up sound very clearly. Original review from 2015: No complaints. Does what I need it to.
So there AREN'T ADS EVERY FIVE SECONDS. I open this when i have song ideas. I record my guitar, and it picks up REALLY WELL. I'll be at work and randomly get a song idea. BOOM. This app is literally my stim shot. Keeps all of your recordings in a folder so you DONT LOSE THEM. Would give this a 10 star if i could. This beats most apps out there... by a LONG mile.
I'm in a band and I use Smart voice recorder to record harmonies or bass lines that I just came up with. Really anything we do that I don't want to forget! This app is very good used this way. And also has settings where you can switch recording modes from MP3 to WAV files. Which is important if you want to email a recording to someone. The WAV files are too big for that, has to be MP3s
Smart voice recorder is an easy access, easy to use app that has really helped me with studying and remembering things I would otherwise forget. the mechanics are simple enough that you don't struggle to use the app, but not so simple that it causes you to mess up a recording. 10/10. would recommend to anyone in need of a recorder on their phone.
I couldn’t believe that such strong app is available. I’ve been using it for a long time and its great.
The automatic punctuation is great!!!! And it supports many languages, including Spanish and Italian, both of which I mention because I will need it for those. I went for the $6.99/year subscription, which is super freaking cheap. Definitely would love if there were a feature that detected each word and let you click a word to navigate to where it was in the recording.
The app is amazing. I’ve been trying to find some to transcribe by voice recorder and this has been the simplest item to use. It’s also not too expensive. They have a couple weird bugs that makes me restart the app but besides that, I’m happy with it
When you stop the recording it automatically plays the recording, which makes it super annoying to use around people. Also there is no amplitude graph so navigating a long recording is difficult. Fix these two things and maybe worth paying for.
The UX is terrible. The recording cut off when my phone went to sleep and there is no way that I can find to stop that. Also you don’t see how long your recording is or a running time so you can’t make notes of time stamps for places to go back to. I have no idea who this is intended for but it’s not journalists.
