You can check your email. That's about it. There are a lot of functions that other mobile email apps manage to add, like mass deleting from a search list, that Microsoft fails to incorporate(requested by users in 2023). You cannot change the sort order in your inbox(2022). The widgets do not keep your inbox up to date unless you fully open the app, defeating the point of having an 'at a glance' widget. I would expect a 'leading' software company like Microsoft to incorporate these features.
My experience has been wonderful! Outlook functions seamlessly with all their other products and security features and across devices. The layouts and themes allow you to truly be productive in a style that's your own. Don't let me start writing about the way it lets you organize things. Even the archive can be organized, and the folder colors changed. And if you run a business, Outlook gives access to their other productivity apps. I could go on because I use so much of it.
Outlook is now a hot mess. Recent update to allow screening still prevents approved sender messages from reaching inbox so they have to be approved every time. Searching for files or emails crashes the app or files can't be opened. And now Outlook tells me I have almost 30 unread emails but when I filter on unread, nothing is displayed. It looks like messages from blocked senders still add to the unread count and aren't shown on the app but can be seen in the inbox in the desktop browser.
last I posted this app screwed up my notifications. then it was good for a couple of years. but the last few months every time I swipe away a notification it immediately returns. like before I even go through my other notifications. I swipe them away to deal with later. I'm begging our IT department to let us use anything else. it's insanely annoying!
1) you cannot label emails in the app, nor see labelled emails. So you have to rely on the desktop for this. 2) Can't seem to set fetching frequency, which means I keep receiving work related emails all the time, every day. update in 2025: it has been crashing constantly and quite slow. The other apps (including gmail) are working normally.
This app is only useful for checking my work calendar, or making simple one-sentence replies to colleagues at my company. There’s no way in hell I would compose or reply to an e-mail to an outside party. The formatting options are recently improved, but it still has a toy-like feel to it. I used to give this 2 stars, but then Copilot infected it, and no matter how many times I disable it, it keeps turning itself back on like a virus.
Showing display names by default with no option to show email address by default is so irresponsible. I thought they'd fix this eventually but it's been years and I'm sick of it. i just got several emails claiming to be venmo and the display name and picture would support that. i dont want to have to open every email and click the username to find out it's phishing. This is a serious security risk for those less savvy with it and it's a waste of time for the rest of us. fix it
The improvement of the Application, series, Microsoft Office. Okay so let me break it down for you, the use of Microsoft Outlook, the mail app is a streamlined and easy process. The App hasn't changed much since it's release which proved that the Existing App was stable eg. a reliable application. I gave the App, which is part of a $100 annual subscription a somewhat low rating. I buy the application and it's not that the other features are great, the issue I see is that the Corporation has not
this app has some benefits over the stock Galaxy Android app, but not if you manage more than one email account at a time. I need a joint inbox that visually separates, perhaps by color, emails from different accounts. it would also be a nice if I could choose the color rather than have it assigned when an account is added. This is one area where the stock Galaxy app is better. I also prefer a 'move to folder' icon visable on the main inbox.
Not sure what's happened, but I've been using this app for years, without any problems. All of a sudden, I get something saying there isn't enough space, I won't get emails or be able to send any. For some reason its not connecting my 2 email addresses like it used to either. So stupid. Now, I'm having the issue of trying to delete emails, but they won't delete. It says deleting, but the emails just bounce back into the inbox. Never ending cycle. I'll change my rating once ALL of this is fixed.
The automatic contact search doesn't reliably work anymore. It's very difficult to send message to people. The app is obvious a mess because a roughly 50 MB update needs installation every few days. The Windows version obviously demonstrates there is something very wrong with the Android version. Developers must come clean about what they are doing.
Outlook could be a nice option for email on android, but it's behavior ior is not reliable. One day it works fine and the next things are different. I woke up to having less menu items. The ability to select junk mail and phishing mail were gone. Support had me delete and reinstall, which is a process. It solved the problem for a week and now the menu items are gone again. The forum tells me there are many with the same experience. I like Microsoft products but heading to gmail Life's to short.
Works OK but several relatively minor annoyances. The message "You have restricted background usage of this app" is unnecessary because I SET the app to only fetch emails when I open it. And then there are the writing "suggestions" that were turned on by default without me asking for them (most of them BTW are totally wrong). I've been writing for many years and have gotten pretty good at it, so I don't need "coaching" from a bot, yet.
I'm getting more frustrated with this app. I am having to sign in all the time and lots of times the sign in window never even shows. I used to use this for my calendar but since I can't stay logged in, I've gone to my Google calendar. Not sure why the continuous sign in has become a thing, but it's very annoying. Update 8/12/25: Why do I keep having to sign in to view my mail? I was able to set up the passkey.
With the latest update, when you click on an email to read it, the logic in the system thinks that email is still unread until you exit out of the specific email and go back to the list of emails. So while you're reading an email for the first time, the only option is to "Mark as read". You have to click that, and then click it again to mark it as unread. The app should chnage an email from Unread to Read as soon as we click to read the email. This will solve the issue. Please fix!
I hate the new update. Moving quick actions from the top bar to the lower floating bar, while reading an email was useless, and detracts from the available space to see the actual email on a phone. I still have a full blue bar at the top, with only a back arrow now, and all that real estate used up by a color block.
Not sure if anyone else is currently dealing with this, but the app won't upload new emails and keeps prompting me to login to my account. Unfortunately, that hasn't been working, forcing me to uninstall and reinstall the app in order to receive/send any new messages. This started about 4 days ago. I've been using the app for YEARS without issue until now.
Doesn't refresh. You think you've read all your mail just to find that the app didn't refresh and you missed something. Difficult to read email threads. Keeps part of the thread out of view for no apparent reason. Gmail is so much better. If I didn't have to use Outlook for work, I wouldn't. Update: MISSED EMAILS. It notifies me of emails that are unimportant. But if I am waiting for an email reply, I'll only know I've received a response if I manually check myself. Unacceptable.
So frustrating. When it works, I like the focused inbox and other features. BUT... all my logins just failed again. Every once in a while, I get kicked out, it asks for all my passwords and then still won't log me in when I enter them. PLUS I can never download calendars from the app. It pretends like I can, but the downloads fail. Now that it's kicked me out and isn't letting me log back in, even after uninstalling and reinstalling, I'm giving up and going with a different email app.
Signature does not work. I have a signature saved and when I send an email it changes the text to a different color. This app works sometimes but then when you really need it, it doesn't work at all. It says I'm signed into my account yet has no data at all. About once a week it says my inbox is empty and won't sync. I have to reload the app three or four times to get any emails or calendar events. It worked yesterday but its empty today. April 5 - does not work again. Very frustrating.
I use it for school I have an outlook account that I sign into and without logging into my computer I can take outlook wherever and whenever. Their are downfalls using this app and one of them is........that if you have a signature that you put in some emails and others you don’t there is no way to put a signature in your email in Outlook app which I don’t mind but then again I thought all your capabilities that you have online or app on computer you would have in the app for your phone. Another downfall I think is that you can’t say a email is “low important or high importance” I again for me that’s not super important but it would be nice to have on the app for your phone. There are plenty other things you can’t do on the app for your mobile device but you can do on the desktop app for your computer or laptop or pc. Other than, I like using the app and reading emails that come in without running to my computer to reply or even just read a single message I can be away from my computer and use my phone while I’m on the go doing other things that are little more important than sitting at home waiting for a email to come in thinking that’s the only way I can respond and receive messages from Outlook.
Everything was great! Especially being able to finally print emails directly from app, BUT now VERY FRUSTRATING because we love using Outlook, but Contacts keep disappearing, and if we update a contact, it reverts back after the next sync! Plus, having an Office 365 subscription, it's FRUSTRATING that our Outlook email in Office 365 is works completely separate! Again, very frustrating!
Update as of Oct 11, 2022: This is still a great app for me to use! Please continue to read my original review which I had posted in 2021: Great mobile app. I never have any issues with the app and it syncs wonderfully with my Microsoft account on all my devices. The ads don't get in the way (such as now, when I am typing), as they are at the the bottom of my screen.
Very productive and useful for communicating. I have not had any issues with uploading or downloading as I use for my daily work. Setting up was easy and I love how it syncs with other Google calenders as well as the outlook one. If I were to suggest any changes I would leave all multi page emails in viewing mode instead of consolidating. I understand this allows faster viewing experience and saves on cache so more of my pet peeve and its easy to hit the three dots and expand the multi page.
I’d give it an 4.5 if I could, but it’s not a four. I’d like it if it was easier to figure out at first how to access other folders such as trash and drafts—or maybe I’m just slow. I like how you can change what the slide function has—I have it set to delete which is super helpful and I wish the apple mail app had. I use both apps with Microsoft OutLook for my school email. I also like the computer version as well. Both versions of the app can (and do) remind me of events I have in my Microsoft calendar (I forget their name, if it has one). This is really helpful as my high school is using teams during the whole pandemic-so I get reminded before school starts, towards the end of classes I dislike, and before lunch ends that I have class which is really helpful. I’ll also mention that you can turn this off—for one or all events—and change the amount of time beforehand that it reminds you at (15 or 5 minutes beforehand for example). I still will use google as my main email because I already am—it isn’t better enough in the ways it is to change. I don’t think it is worse per say that google/apple email apps/websites. Hope this helps!
It's an ok app. I'm not a fan of the ads, but I'll deal. The worst I've experienced so far is that the app sometimes gets into a state where it seems like it can't connect to the internet. I can't Load More Messages and clicking an email will open a new page, but the email never loads. Search doesn't work either. This has happened to me a handful of times already. When it happens, it happens for all the accounts I have added, and the only way to recover is by clearing storage for the app.
Outlook is good enough for its intended function. Much can be improved and made more seamless. Keep working on it.. Consider adding a lock screen function for this app. Currently, anyone with your phone can read your mail. Like other mail & messaging app, you should add an app lock function that can be assessed by a pin, password or fingerprint. Thank you.!
In looking through other reviews, I noticed several, many, reviews that stated how bad the product was but that showed 5 star ratings. ????? It is frustrating to sit and wait several seconds to have my inbox loaded each time I select outlook on iOS. I have reviewed settings and see no correction for that. Am I downloading messages online each time data wise? When moving a message from inbox, it would be nice to have predictive folders shown as on the desktop. I have three major folders that get a lot of messages and it is a frustration to scroll all over each time. My spouse uses Apple Calendar on her phone and we have trouble she invites me on an appointment. I have tried to clear that up but can’t. I would prefer the calendar app to be separate from the email to use in separate windows. Handling and setting up groups for emails is frustrating on all platforms. As I am now retired, I have no great operational demands that Mail can’t handle so I might just go back to that. Dropping MS Office would certainly save some money. The app is not “Bad”, just adequate. Certainly, it is no joy to use but does not cause too much pain-except for that one group of about ten days of email that was lost. Never found those suckers.
I was recently forced to switch over to the Outlook app from the native Apple Mail app by my office. Couldn’t be more disappointed. First, despite the fact that everything is set up to push new data, I will regularly open the app to watch a dozen or so new emails load right before my eyes. No notifications, no indication that I received new emails, nothing. And sometimes this can be a dozen or more emails at a time and from a half hour ago or more. Very frustrating. Then there’s the issue of the default email font, which is basically the most unpleasant looking and unprofessional font that could have been chosen, that cannot be changed. Next we have the calendar, which is the least intuitive layout I can imagine. I can never tell when I have things scheduled for any particular day, because it’s just a garbled mess. The layout in Apple’s Calendar app is much, much, much better. And adding items to the calendar is equally frustrating. Adding attachments to emails is always a fun little adventure, as you never know where or how it’s going to add them to the email. The whole point of being able to access email on your phone is that it’s supposed to be quick and convenient, and this app if far from either of those things. Honestly, I’m not even sure it’s worth improving this app, it would probably be better to scrap it and start all over. Save some time in the process and just copy Apple’s apps.
As someone who uses Outlook on the desktop to manage, literally, thousands of emails per day, I was excited to see how it would translate to my iPhone. The Schedule feature is a game-changer for me, which allows me to address an important email at a time more convenient for me. The ease at which I can access my folders and other accounts is mind-blowing compared to the absolutely confusing way it was handled in iOS. For the drawbacks: i can't seem to find a way to change the notification to vibrate rather than audible. Second: I can't seem to change the frequency at which an Exchange ActiveSync account checks mail. My phone is my second device, and I don't need it to audibly alert me for each of the thousand emails I get every day. I think the other option was for no sound, but when I'm in lengthy meeting, a vibrate option would help. Update: the only frustrating problem I’ve continued to have with Outlook for iOS is that on IMAP accounts I sometimes receive CONTINUAL notifications for emails that were read and even deleted, and the only way to stop it is to reset the account in the settings.
It’s been five months that I have reported this issue and for five months I am told it is a known issue and will be handled with an update; BULL The use to work as described. However, I am not able to load multiple contacts when either creating, forwarding or replying to additional contacts. I have Office 365 on my PC and wanted to synch my calendar and mailboxes, so I added the iOS Outlook app. I have tried contacting iOS support and they intermittently respond. It’s difficult to fix a problem they can’t see or spend time trying At this point the iOS app is not functioning correctly and isn’t supported very well. It’s coming off my iPhone. It’s been months and the problem has been “dumped” into a big black hole called engineering. No one owns any problem. The app works perfectly on my wife’s iPhone and the Apple mail app works perfectly. It’s now been over a year. My only issue is on average 400+ emails are always visible in my deleted folder. When I try to delete a message it immediately returns. I cannot swipe delete anything from my junk file to the delete file I have to manually move it. Mobile Outlook support is useless!!!!!!!

I was recently forced to switch over to the Outlook app from the native Apple Mail app by my office. Couldn’t be more disappointed.
Thank you.!

Thank you.!
I hate the new update. Moving quick actions from the top bar to the lower floating bar, while reading an email was useless, and detracts from the available space to see the actual email on a phone. I still have a full blue bar at the top, with only a back arrow now, and all that real estate used up by a color block.

Please fix!
This is a serious security risk for those less savvy with it and it's a waste of time for the rest of us. fix it
Not sure what's happened, but I've been using this app for years, without any problems.

Thank you.!
